We have a 10 day trip planned in July for me, husband, and 6 year old daughter. My parents would also like for us to go with them during spring break in April for 5 nights (instead of our usual yearly 1 week family beach vacation). I'm worried that if we do that, some of the magic will be lost and my daughter won't be as excited for our big trip in July. Personally, I would rather do the 2 Disney trips, but we are going all out in July so I want our July trip to be special for her. Thoughts???

Personally, I'm not a fan of repeating destinations so soon, but having said that I really can't see the 6-year-old being "bored" the second time - assuming she enjoys it the first time.

Has she been there before? Does she love it?

If not, I'm afraid you just won't know until the second trip starts.

Our kids might be bored (one of them is 6). I think we've settled in to an every two years schedule, and that feels right for them.

We took her for the first time this past July. She absolutely loved it and we talk about next year's trip quite frequently :) I feel like yearly trips are fine but just less than 3 months its hard to say. She had a great time just walking around and taking it all in. The rides were really her least favorite part. We would be staying at different resorts each time and our July trip is a split stay so all that would be new. That's a lot of money to spend if she's not going to enjoy it as much! But on the flip side, she also got "bored" halfway through our beach trip last year and wanted to do nothing but play in the pool (and we have a pool at home). When I was a kid, I NEVER got bored on vacation!!! We always went to the beach, I never got to go to Disney until I was a teen.

It's probably unlikely she'd be bored taking both of the trips, especially since she loved her first trip so much. My daughter is also 6 years old and we've been spending two or three days in the parks each month for a couple of years now and she's still not bored with it lol

Since your first trip in April is only half of the time, it might just be enough to do your favorite things. The longer trip will be different because you'll be able to do even more when you go back, including seeing different resorts. It sounds like you all will have a wonderful time :) Enjoy your trips!

Thanks for your feedback, very helpful! :)

This is a helpful perspective. I've wondered what it would be like to be local... Would it stop being special? But I'll never do any better than being a snowbird someday- I don't like hot weather- so I guess I'll never know :)

You April trip will be different and special with grandparent along. I would absolutely give her that gift. I can not image any child being board at WDW. You can choose to see and do some new things each trip along with repeating old favorites.

We took our kids for the first time last October. They were 11, 7, and 4. They were asking when we could go back the next month...lol. I think she will be fine :)

I agree - I don't think she will get board. They are two different trips with different travel parties and that can have a huge difference on how you tour.

Grandparents might want to take it nice and slow, a few hours in the park then back to the resort for an early evening.
Your family trip might throw bed time out the window (which if you can, your DD will love) and tour the parks in the evening when they "feel" different.
My DD still talks about the time we were in MK until 3 am when she was 6 :rolleyes1 Major Mom Score on that one!

Personal experience, our trips that are just DD and I, differ greatly when DH comes along, and also from when DSis and her family go.

You can also do different things on each trip to make them individually special.

Like is she doing BBB on either trip? Or maybe something like the Behind the Seeds tour at Epcot since that's an inexpensive but fun hour.

My DS7 has been to WDW at least 20 times since he was one. Just in this past year, he has been there 6 times and we will go down again at Christmas (I feel like I need to point out that we go other places too!). Every time we go, although we always do our favorites, we always do something new! A new resort, a new experience or tour, new restaurants. You would be surprised how many new things there are to do even if you go there a few times a year. For our upcoming Christmas trip, we will see the Osbourne Lights, do Wild Africa Trek, and hopefully experience some of the new restaurants that are opening in MK and DTD. One weekend trip we just stayed at AKL the whole time and did the morning AK tour they used to offer if you stayed CL. You really can create very different trips and experiences when taking multiple trips in a short time period.

I agree with PP, do something different and special on each trip. That way each one can stand out. My kids would LOVE to do WDW twice in a year.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I feel more sure that she will enjoy the two trips now. We do have plans to do different things on both trips. Also our dates have changed so it will be early March for the first trip so a little more time in between.

We have a DL trip in November and then a quick WDW trip in December to see Osborne lights. I think because they will be different with holidays DD won't get bored. Plus we just did a week at WDW in June. Looking forward to slowing down and not trying to do anything in one trip.

I'm just now reading this thread and am glad you didn't decide not to do both trips! As quite a few pp's said, doing different things each trip, having different travelling companions and staying at different resorts all help, IMO, to keep trips fresh. We started out going once year and got up to 2x a year (DH and I will be going 4x in 12 months :):)) and my boys, now 9 and 13, don't get bored. I do try to keep adding new things and it's harder with the older one, but at 6 they would have loved going back 3-4 months after being there. Enjoy both trips!
