Two Single or One Double City Mini

I recently (yesterday) purchased a City Mini GT double stroller. I've been searching old threads for help on deciding if I should bring the double or work with two strollers. If I did two, I would most likely bring my City Mini single and rent an additional City Mini in Anaheim.

I'm trying to save my stroller rental fee money for something more fun... souvenirs, character meal, etc... Especially since I just purchased the double! :)

Is a double really that big of a pain to push through big crowds in July? Would two singles be that much better? TIA!

We personally liked two singles. We debated a double and in talking with friends they said the double gets heavy with two kids and all your stuff. There are more uphill areas than you realize and it can be a workout. We personally liked being able to split up, each with one kid, and still have a stroller. Why not take a cheaper umbrella stroller instead of renting?

Believe it or not, but I only have two strollers - the City Mini single and the double. I don't own an umbrella stroller and don't want to purchase one just for this trip. I did debate a cheap stroller but I'm too tall for most of those to be comfortable to push.

Right now I'm leaning toward the double since that'll be less money and I will have a spot for both through the airport!

Great question! I'm going to keep reading this thread because I'm interested in the responses. I run a small daycare and pushing our double stroller is a real pain. It is so heavy and uncomfortable and my shoulders hurt after a simple 15 min walk to the park! For me, two singles might be better, but then I would have to pack them through the airport.... Hmmmmmmmm.

This has got me thinking....

I read a post once by a guy who suggested 'parking' your stroller at the land you are exploring and letting the kids walk from ride to ride, then when you are done that land using the stroller to get to the next place. I thought that was a good idea.

I'm also thinking now that my 1 year old is fine in an ergo, but I don't want her in the ergo all day (for my sanity! And because it is smoking hot!) So now I'm thinking I might bring one light single stroller for my 3 year old for the airport, and have her in the ergo, and then rent another one for her for in the parks, then put her in their ergo in the evening so if she falls asleep she can stay in it for the walk back to the hotel....

Just thinking out loud.

I have a Becco carrier that DS just sweats in all the time. That's why I need something like a City Mini so it can fold flat. Big sister loves the stroller and I'm afraid that jealousy requires me to have two spots.

I have enough adults for two strollers but I'm not sure if its worth the price tag. (A DLR trip on the cheap side isn't my strong suit!)

We got a Maclaren Volo for 10 bucks at a yard sale in perfect condition, cheaper than renting! My husband is 6'3" and prefers to push that one as it's taller than most. Maybe Craigslist?
We don't have to deal with airports etc though. Just fitting them in the trunk of our car along with everything else, which is also why two umbrella strollers worked for us! (However we only need one now! )
Hope you have a great trip!

When I went with a 1 year old and a 3 year old, we debated bringing two single strollers or one double. At first we were leaning toward the double stroller because it meant keeping track of one less thing, but after spending the day at a small local park, we decided to go with two single strollers. The kids had such different interests (due to the age), so we ended up doing different things and it was easier if the two kids could nap in their strollers in separate spaces. We did make the older one walk when going from one ride to the next within the same area, but by the end of the day it was still easier to put her in the stroller (especially during the parade/fireworks), but by this point, the little one was often napping somewhere else.

When my kids were smaller we had a sit n stand and loved it. Only time it was hard was when my oldest was sleepy he couldn't sleep on little jump seat. I personally never wanted to deal pushing a double wide stroller at the parks. I think dca might be easier because walkways are bigger but DL would be difficult in some bottle neck areas.

When the kids got older we just brought two strollers which worked out great. Scored a full size chicco stroller for $25 on Craigslist. It was nice because if my DH was tired he would take our youngest (who was already asleep) back to the room and my oldest and I could stay out a little later.

As a pp said, we just park ours in one land and leave it there until we leave that area. Usually we park near star tours and don't move unless we head to nos or dca. It's a greet meeting up spot too if we separate.

Our next trip we are only bringing one stroller for our youngest, as my oldest is 6, 48inches and 55 lbs and looks way too big for a stroller now. I'm a bit nervous how he will handle all the walking. Planning on taking lots of breaks ;)

Last summer I rented the double stroller from City Rentals for my 3 and 4 year olds, and I LOVED it! It was easy to push, had room for everything we needed to bring with us, and I didn't find it too big to fit through any doors, etc. We often parked it in one land and then just explored that land on foot. It was really perfect for us.

How old are the kids? Will they be napping in the stroller? What do you use on a day to day basis? Are you going at a busy time?
We've gone with a one and a three year old and an almost three and a four year old. Both times the two singles worked better for us. We liked the freedom to split up and the ease of moving through crowds. When our oldest was four we tended to leave the smaller stroller parked and just use it for moving from land to land or when we left the park. A cheap umbrella stroller parked outside a ride makes a great place to stash water bottles, ponchos and snacks and is cheaper and more convenient than a locker, too.

W love our city mini double and have used it for four years. Our oldest now seven still rides but mostly at night when she is so tired from a great day. Our last trip with the double is oct the well get a single for the 5 year old. Good luck
