I am befuddled as to what to do--our party will include (at times) two people on EVCs. We will be staying at SSR. I know that the Disney busses only accommodate two wheelchairs or ECVs at a time. I am concerned that we will have long wait times if there are other wheelchair/ECVs waiting (as we will not want to break up the party and take more than one bus). So, since we are flying to Orlando from the West Coast, the only alternative I can come up with is renting a van that will accommodate two ECVs. (A car won't work because no one in our party can lift the components for two ECVs in and out of the car.)

Am I correct in assuming that a regular van will not accommodate two ECVs? And that we need to look at renting an accessible van? (especially since we will need a ramp to get the ECVs in and out) Has anyone experienced this situation? I have looked at the sticky and saw the info regarding accessible van rentals--just wondering if someone else has a better solution.

Thanks everyone.

We tried the rental van thing and it works out better to use Disney transport. 2 ECV's will fit in the back of a minivan, but only if there are 3 people riding in it. Dh and I lifted them in and out many times in Dec 2006 and we decided never again. We only did that at FW, because the bus would go to WL first and was usually full before it ever came to FW.

We had no problem whatsoever last December and never waited for a second bus.

We are going to do it again in 15 days at Pop and again in December at WL. Also, you have the busdriver to tie them down and it didn't wear my DH out.

If at least one of you has the necessary strength to lift the various parts it can be done in a car, but you are absolutely limited to two people in the car. The ECV seats will fit on the back seat and the batteries can go on the floor in the back. Then you should be able to maneuver the remaining parts onto the trunk. Make sure that you have at least a full-size four door sedan to do this.

No--a car isn't the option--we don't have the strength to lift them.

Change your reservation to Boardwalk or Beach Club Villas and halve your problem by using the paths to Epcot and DHS.

Since SSR has multiple bus stops you may face the problem of a bus arriving at your stop with at least one guest already t/w a w/c. I am the only one in my party who needs w/c space in a bus but often that's been the case for me at resorts with multiple stops. In that case then the driver will usually radio for another bus to be sent right away and then you should be able to board together. At park closings or after a parade, etc. many resort bus stops will have multiple guests in ECV's or w/c waiting to get back but still your wait shouldn't be too long. I'd say to take Disney transportation as long as you're not in a rush and just relax. It sounds like a huge hassle to take apart and put together two ECV's, esp. since only one person in your party is capable of that physical task.---Kathy

I can assure you it is a hassle. DH and I didn't take the ones mom and I were using apart, he and I just lifted them into the back of the minivan and that was a hug hassle, because he had to do most of the lifting and I would guide in the front wheel and handlebar. From now on we will always take Disney transport.
