I did read the sticky/FAQs, but didn't find the answer to this...

If I book two rooms, will we all share the dining credits?

I'm not sure if it's possible to just have one reservation or if it must be two separate reservations that are linked together.

We are planning a trip with my parents. Originally DH and I didn't want the dining plan, but my parents really enjoy the meals. I'm just wondering if our credits will all be lumped together so my parents could do a few extra TS meals on their own or will the credits only appear on the key cards for that particular room?

No, you need a dining plan for each room. The persons in one room can't share their credits with persons on a separate reservation. If each room is a separate reservation (and because you have adults in each room they will be) then the key card will have dining credits for the number of people registered in the room with the dining plan.

On separate reservations, your parents will be able to have a dining plan while you do not have one. However, they can't use their credits to buy meals for you, and according to Disney's rules you are not supposed to buy yourself a dining plan and then give the credits to your parents.

Sorry, I didn't make my original post clear enough.

I know both rooms would have to have the dining plan and I know that sharing with non-dining plan guests is not allowed.

We would get the dining plan for both rooms and will eat many of our meals together. I was just wondering if DH and I didn't want to do a TS meal one day that my parents would be able to use the extra credits and do two TS meals that day.

Your second part of the first paragraph answers my question though. So even if I book both rooms and pay for them, they will still be separate reservations and the dining credits will not be connected to both rooms.

Separate reservations will not have dining credits pooled. Only the persons listed on each reservation have access to their own credits on their KTTW cards.

Doesn't matter if you "link" the reservations or not - all that might get you is a better chance that the rooms will be near each other.

Thanks.

I thought perhaps you could have one reservation for several rooms. I didn't know each room had to be a separate reservation.

The way Disney seems to do it, even when booking multiple rooms at the same time the reservations are considered separate and each room will have a different reservation number, as long as there is an adult registered in each room. If one adult registers for two rooms with a group of minor children, then those rooms will receive the same reservation number, but if there are enough adults to register one in each room the reservations will be separate.

Last year I went with my girls under 18 and my eldest daughter over 18 with her two kids. We had two rooms at Pop and they were on one ressie. All dining credits were together.

I understand this is not typical. You can always ask but don't expect to be able to combine 2 rooms on one reservation when there are adults in both rooms. There's also been people who were told they couldn't do this.

When I made our reservation for DH, myself, DD16 and three of her 16yo friends, they put us in connecting rooms, one adult in each room with 2 girls and assigned one reservation number. I didn't ask for them to do it this way, they just did.

Well, if they did it for you, they did it for you. The point is, unless you get one reservation number covering all your rooms, the credits are not pooled for all the rooms, they are split up by room.

TDCNala - I wasn't trying to argue or be rude, honestly. You share alot of useful information on these boards and I really appreciate it. In fact, it was one of your replies on a thread from last year on this issue that educated me on the fact that if we have one reservation number for two rooms then the credits would be pooled. I didn't realize until this thread that it doesn't normally happen that way (two rooms, each with an adult, under one reservation). I just hope the CM who booked it didn't do something wrong and they change it to two separate reservations when we check in. Having both rooms under one would make things so much easier in dealing with the dining credits.

Thanks for your help!:)

Goodness, don't worry about whether the cast member did something wrong...what counts is that they did it. If that's what you wanted you may have lucked out. It's just so that if anyone wants what you wanted, they need to try asking if one reservation number can be applied to multiple rooms, but they shouldn't count on it because a lot of guests have been told it can't be done. Disney trips people up a lot, because sometimes if you ask two cast members the same question you will get a different answer.

we too have a 4 teenager and 2 adult trip. i think the issue here may be that both rooms are under the same reservation number and noted that all 6 are traveling together and it even indicates "traveling together" "connecting rooms guaranteed". because of this, i "think" that might be why; this is actually viewed as a single reservation and hence all the dining credits together. if you didn't book the rooms that way, each room would have a different reservation number and hence, separate meal plan. the best way to figure it out, but you will have to wait until you arrive is to see if you KTTW states 6 A or 3A.

This was our experience. 5 of us in 2 connecting rooms, 1 adult listed in each room, same reservation number, credits all together and keys opened both rooms.

The cm didn't do it wrong. Lots of people have had their reservation booked this way. As happens many times, results depend on how good the cm is you are working with and how well they know their job.

Should also be noted that connecting rooms are NEVER guaranteed. Despite what it says on the reservation, they will not absolutely guarantee connecting rooms for anyone.

This is good to hear - thanks!:thumbsup2

I hear this alot on these boards. I find it so strange that they would guarantee it in writing on the reservation and then not honor it. Why even bother? What not just say the request can be noted, just like those for certain buildings, views etc., but it is not guaranteed that you will get it? Very strange practice for Disney. . .

Yes, Disney states the request on the reservation. We always request and have received the connecting rooms, except the trip to WL in Feb 2010. We requested and didn't receive. I don't think it's guaranteed in writing on the reservation, just noted or requested. Just my experience.

Mine actually says "guaranteed":

Disney Resort Hotel Category: Value Resorts

Disney Resort Hotel Room Type: Standard Room

Special Requests: Connecting rooms (guaranteed)

I was surprised when I saw this as, like I said before, I have read several times that Disney does not guarantee connecting rooms.:confused3 Maybe its because 4 of the 6 people on the reservation are under 18?

I guess it could be. Whenever I have made the connecting request, I have always been told requested, not guaranteed, but we had over 18 in our case. Anyway, I have read here that when young children are involved, they have gotten the connecting rooms guaranteed. I don't know if it's a play on wording or just what Disney actually does. Are e the under 18 all in the other room?
