Hello All,
I have been running the numbers, and while I think I have thought of everything, I have time so figured I would see what the experts have to say.
My wife and I have 3 little girls. My mother likes to come with us, and now my wife has a friend who wants to come with us as well. All of that is fine, except we just went from 5 to 6 to 7 for our group size.
My wife thinks the only way to handle this size group is to go offsite, and we have done that in the past. Offsite is nice to have a private pool, and all the house amenities. However, I like staying onsite. We stayed at the Cabins(max 6) last year(2015), and it was awesome. But my wife and I stayed in the pull down bed, and would prefer some privacy. Again, in two rooms at a value resort, we will not have the privacy, but I can sell it to my wife if it makes sense.
I love the moderate and deluxe resorts, but I am wondering if we go to a Value resort and get two rooms, if I can get the price to come in line with an offsite house. Not the same price, but close enough to be a non factor in the decision is my main focus.
Some things that are a factor:
With our group, we drive since getting plane tickets for our group cheaper than what it costs to drive has not happened yet(but I am looking). My wife is a High School teacher, so we go when the prices are more expensive in the summer, so that is just a given.
We are going in 2017, I am guessing sometime in August, but really any time between June-August are our travel dates.
Here is what I have found so far(all estimates) [7 days]
Offsite:
House for ~ $1300
Tickets for the group for 7 days (with hopper) is ~ $3000.
$4300 for 7 days offsite.
Onsite:
Two rooms with tickets(w/hopper) at an all star resort is ~ $ 2800 / room
$5600 for onsite for 7 days.
I did this all based on going in Aug 2016, not 2017 when we will be going.
But $1300 difference, seems like something that I could overcome with either free dining(not sure how to plan for that), or a pin code(which my wife seems to get all the time, me not so much).
Anyway, I know some of you out there, are awesome with coming up with other plans and might be thinking of stuff I have not thought of. I have not spent a ton of time looking at DVC points, but those numbers did not seem any better, but of course the resorts are higher quality.
Any thoughts? I am open to any thoughts so feel free to suggest anything.
We have been to Disney twice in the last 4 years, we go about every other year and have done both offsite and onsite. I am open to both, but want to make sure I do the needed research on options and don't short change any options that are out there.
