Two rooms and Magic Band question.

We have two rooms this trip at OKW a GV and a studio. I listed my sister, her husband and our mom in the GV too so they could have access to kitchen and laundry. Both rooms and everyone’s magic band are on my MDE. Will they be able to use their magic band to open both rooms?

TIA!

Each magic band will only unlock the room that the specific guest is assigned to. You can get a plastic key card from the front desk to allow access to the other room

Thank you!

They are listed as room occupants for both reservations. How will MDE know which room the magic band will unlock?

No worries!

DVC MS said we could be listed as occupants in both rooms so we could access both as long as there was a different lead guest for each room. She said it would work but I really can’t see how the magic band would work for both rooms (it won’t!) or how to determine which band is for what room if they are issued one for each reservation.

The reservations are both mine and I have the only MDE account with all of us listed.

Usually, all of your MBs have access to everything in your plans, so maybe it will work that way. If not, there are always the key cards. I have no experience with being a guest on two rooms at once, so not sure. I hope you have a great trip and enjoy your stay!

just read another post where they had trouble with band opening 2 rooms. I would get a couple of extra key to each room or the one room depending on need

Despite what you were told one band can’t open 2 rooms. You want to designate the room they’ll be sleeping in for their band. You can then use an old band of yours for them to access your room or get a key card

Last question, I hope!

If I call and get the reservation with my sis as the lead unlinked from my MDE and set up a second MDE account for her, will she be able to have a band for my room as well as one for her own?

I read about just slightly altering names and having “extra” people on MDE but I think that would make getting a BG for RotR more difficult.

Not sure. It would just be easier to get a key card at check in

I believe your sister will get a magic band for each room. Choose different colors, and remember which one is attached to each room. This should work, unless I am forgetting about something?
You are indeed correct. Good point. I missed that part somehow. You can add the letters GV to the name on the bands for that room. Or get them for the GV room in all the same color if you don’t want to read the back

Yes, this. She can either pick two colors to differentiate which room each MB will open or, as AngiTN pointed out, you could add GV to the name to know which MB opens which room.

I’m sorry. I thought of something else. We travel together all the time but usually in the same GV. If she has two magic bands, one for each room, will both bands access her ticket media?

Thank you!

Does that really work? I thought any MagicBand simply reads the MDE info for that person -- any and all information, not specific to a resort reservation. If it's the same person in MDE, both MBs will simply access the same account info -- neither will be specific to a room reservation. I think for this to work, one reservation would need to be for Mary J Smith and the other have her profile as M Jane Smith so MDE thinks they are 2 different individuals.

OP - I would just get keycards to use for the extra individuals to access the GV.

Enjoy your vacation!

I'm not positive but I think so. MB do access everything on an account, except for door access. This is why sometimes a band will do everything but open a door. I have this happen ALL the time, because I have so many bands. They don't all get loaded in to a resort data base. It can be done manually but not automatically when you get enough bands. This is a different issue than having too many bands period, so that everything starts to glitch. My bands that don't open doors will work for tickets (AP), room charges, FP, etc.
I was listed in 2 rooms, as lead guest. I didn't however, even think to order MB for each room. We got lucky and had connecting rooms so I never needed to use anything to enter the other room but had I, I wouldn't have been able to use the same band that opened my door.
But, if the 1 person is listed in 2 rooms (as OP has done) then if they have a band specifically for that room, it should work. If it doesn't, then yeah, ask for a card. But I'd try ordering a band for each room, keeping good track of which goes with which room. Which is why I suggest adding GV to the names on the bands for the GV. Makes it easy

I appreciate everyone’s time and thoughts on this. When she and I talked about, I didn’t consider any of this. It was just .... sure you can have access to my room!

Thanks again!
