We are planning a vacation in which we will be staying at CBR for 3-4 nights cash and then moving over to VWL to stay for a week on our points. Do we have to connect them both or make them separately. We will want the DDP at both places. Is it best just to purchase 10 day tickets with our CBR reservations and then move to VWL? I know that I can still get the DDP at VWL using points. Is there something that I am missing? and should I let them know that the reservations are both there?

If you have another trip planned within a year of this one you might consider getting APs since you can get the discount and getting two trips out of one yeat's AP is a better deal. You could also book the CBR reservation as room only and buy tickets from one of the ticket discounters but I don't know if you could add the DDP to that one. You should not have to link the reservations as they are two separate resorts.

Will you be going back to WDW within the 366 days following this trip? If so, an AP would be a better choice. The great thing about Disney's APs is that you actually get 366 days instead of 365. We usually plan our trips around our APs. If you can shift the date the following year by a week, it is really easy to go two years on one AP.

Our usual plan is to buy a discounted AP for December. Then we go in March and again earlier the next December, getting 3 trips on one AP. After that, we sometimes skip 6-11 months before buying a new AP and starting the process over again.

For example: We will activated our new APs on December 6th of this year. We will use them for that 9 day trip, and then we will also use it for our March trip. The next trip after March will be from the end of November through Dec. 6 of 2012, so we will be using those same APs for 3 trips in 12 months. After that, we are taking a break because we are planning a trip to Hawaii for 2013.
