two reservations, one stay

I've seen several people mention making two reservations for one trip (most seem to split between two resorts). I'm wondering how this works if you want to stay in one spot. Do you go to the desk to check back in when your new reservation starts? Is it likely that you will have to move to another room?

We currently have 10 nights booked with the 4/3 deal. I am thinking about adding an extra night. If I break up the reservation into 7 nights and 4 nights I could apply another discount to those other 4 nights. I'm just trying to figure out if it would be worth it or if it is a hassle.

We are doing this for our trip in April and have done it before, 2 reservations at the same resort. You do need to go to the front desk and check out/check back in on the day your second reservation starts. They give you new room keys. It takes about 5-10 minutes and is no problem. Although they will not guarantee that you will not have to change rooms, as long as the 2 reservations are in the same room category, it makes no sense for them to ask you to change rooms. And if you are doing this at 7am, it is likely that your room is the only room available at that time anyway. It did not happen to use the last time, and I do not expect it to happen this time. Of course if you want to change rooms, if you don't like your current room, you can ask to move.
When you check in for your first reservation, make sure that they know that you have a continuing reservation.

Yes, there is a chance that you will have to move to another room.

Is it a hassle? It depends. If you hate packing a suitcase, then definately! If you don't; you should be OK. Pack the backs and have bell services transfer them to the other room, IF you need to move. On 'check out and check in day' go to front desk to check out (if you're not doing the thing with the creditcard where you don't physically have to check out) and check back in. If you're already staying at the resort, you can do this after waking up and before hitting a park. Check back in, find out if you need to move, if so have bell service take care of the bags, hit a park and in the afternoon when you're done; new room. :)

One thing you can have CRO do is link the 2 reservations together. It is no guarantee, but linking them will make it more visable that you will be actually staying for 2 weeks and might increase the chance of not needing to switch rooms. Have read multiple posts on here of people that didn't have to move, and others that did.

Thanks for the replies.

We would have no issue with going down to the desk in the early morning, but with three little ones I'd definitely rather not have to pack up all of our stuff and move to another room. We'll have a cooler, a bunch of food, and a pack'n'play as well, so we'd probably have to put our stuff out in the car. I don't think DH will think it's worth it for the AAA discount (around $50), but if a room-only discount came out we could save more. (FL resident/AP rates recently came out for our dates--late May-- for $64/night.)

I don't think there were any discounts for that time last year, so it might just be wishful thinking... ah too many options when you obsessively research your trip. :headache:

I just wanted to say have a great time, have fun and enjoy in your upcoming trip. Looking forward in hearing more from you after you came back.

Have a nice day everyone. :)

Thanks.

I called to add the extra night and she said there was a limit of 10 nights on a package. I wasn't aware of this, but it gave me the push to go ahead and change to two reservations (7 nights with the 4/3 deal and a room only for 4 nights).

I hope we won't have to switch rooms, but I guess that will be an excuse for me to pack up the dirty laundry and anything extra we aren't using and stash it in the van. ;)

We did this in Feb. to take advantage of different pricing (value season for 4 nights, then the 4/3 deal) When the reservation was made, CRO said it would be noted as a "connecting reservation" so that we would not have to move. This was also confirmed at check-in.

On the day the 4/3 package started I went to the front desk at 7 am and checked out and then checked in again, getting new room keys and setting up the spending limit on them again. And it took about 5-10 minutes.

If you are going to have to move, they can tell you that at check-in, so I wouldn't worry about that.

I think they will do everything they possibly can to try to keep you in the same room. We've done several trips with multiple reservations to take advantage of discounts, etc. and have never had to change rooms.

Thanks for all the reassurance.

They added that we have a continuing reservation and would like the same room. I'm not too concerned with having to move any more. We'll just be happy to be there. :goodvibes

Now the only issue is waiting. DH and I are so freaking excited and the kids don't know. :hyper: Last night when our girls were upstairs DH told the baby a "secret". He was whispering excitedly and telling him that we're going to take him to Disney. I guess he had to tell someone. :rotfl:
71 days until we leave.

That's so funny - DH did the same thing in November! We kept it from our 3 girls, so DH would always say to the baby "don't tell your sisters we're going to see Mickey Mouse!" It was really cute. 71 days is nothing - we have to wait 150 days till our next trip!
