Two reservation ticket question

I have a question about making two reservations...I've never done this before.

Rumor has it the S/P/D deal will be offered during my stay but not start until a few days in. I've heard you can make 2 reservations in order to be able to get the deal. My question is this....

Our trip is Jan 2-9 the deal doesn't start until the 5th so we will make a reservation Jan 2-5 and then another one the 5-9. We are getting the dining plan so we know we will have to pay out of pocket for the 2-5 reservation...however in order to do this we have to purchase 1 day ticket on that reservation. If we do that and put the rest of our tickets on the 5-9 reservation will we be able to access those tickets on say Jan 3?

I'm sorry if this is confusing. I'm just trying to make it all work b/c the S/P/D deal will be better for us since we are going to have 3 adults in our room.

You really have to wait to see what the exact deal will be. Some people predict that the S/P/D plan will be just like last year's plan, which is that adults pay children's prices for dining plan and park tickets. Others predict it might be similar to a past version of S/P/D in which kids are free. If it is the latter one, then I don't think it will be a bargain.

Another thing that could affect you is if the S/P/D plan requires everyone on the reservation to buy the same ticket. In that case, you couldn't just buy a one day ticket for one person.

You really need to crunch the numbers to see if it is really worth it. :) If you are staying at a deluxe resort, it might be better to try for a room discount instead. :)

No we would all buy the same tickets for the S/P/D deal. I just need to know if I buy a 6 park hopper for that if I can start using those tickets before the day I'm "checking in" for that reservation.

If it works the way you think it will.... I would buy the trip tickets on the first reservation. Buy whatever the least amount of tickets you could get on the second reservation and save them for another trip (and upgrade at that time to what you really need).

I'm trying to buy the most on our second reservation because that's when the discount is.

My basic question is can you use your park tickets before you check in for your reservation?

I've heard that you can pick up park tickets three days ahead of time.

I've never tried it, though.

ETA: I crunched the numbers a second time, since I had a feeling I had made a mistake, and the savings is closer to around $500. You ready don't save much on the children's tickets. Your biggest savings come from buying the DDP at children's prices, which saves around $38 per day per person.

You are great! Thanks so much for doing that and yes that's exactly what I was talking about :) That's what I'm hoping we can do so we can get the savings.

If you have a reservation with tickets which starts January 5, you can pick up the tickets (but not any related dining) as early as January 2. If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in this Forum, especially Post #15-I, you can get a lot more information. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature. The ticket sticky is your friend!
