Neither Joe nor I have ever been to Europe and we are looking at Ireland this August. Before anyone suggests another time of year, that's the only time we can go due to Joe's work schedule.

That being said, I've heard some pretty dire warnings that Dublin and Cork are really costly. Is that true?

Can you all give us as many suggestions, places to stay in Dublin, an idea of how much money to bring for spending, what cars typically go for, etc...

ANYTHING would be helpful!!

Hi

I've visited Ireland a few times but many years ago now.

I think the prices in Dublin and Cork are no different to visiting any other European city. :confused3

I once went for a week during August and it only rained twice - once for three days and then for four days! :rotfl:

I'm sure you'll get lots of advice on here - Good Luck and happy planning

Check out

maybe this will help. Hubby goes to Dublin a lot with his work and the people are very friendly, and he reckons it's not too expensive. Enjoy the Guinness and don't drink too much !! :lmao: :thumbsup2

There is a lot more you Ireland then dublin and Cork
these city's cost as much as any other European city

what are you looking for in a holiday ?

You could also try www.tourismireland.com - it's the official Irish Tourist Board site.

But as jns said - there is more to Ireland than just Dublin and Cork! :)

Tracey

BTW - Prices in N Ireland are in British Pound so won't be the same as Dublin.

Oh rest assured I am aware! In fact, I only mention those cities because the other half has been mentioning them. I want to do a castle or countryside tour. With plenty of stop overs for a pint or three.

If you like the countryside you'll love the Ring of Kerry and there are lots of coach companies offering tours which you can book over there or I'm sure before you go.

I can recommend a very nice little hotel and restaurant near Cork:

The Bosun in Monkstown.

http://www.thebosun.ie/

It just across the river from the island of Cobh.
Cobh is where the Titanic had it's last stop on the way to America and there is a nice little museum there.

It's handy for Cork airport and local tourists spots like Blarney Castle.

Aer Arran do flights internal flights around Ireland if you don't want to drive all the time:

My daughter is on her way back from Ireland right now. (By the way, thank you to those who gave me some good advice and tips to give her.)

She went shopping yesterday (her last full day) and said that she found some GREAT bargains in Dublin: 2 euros for a purse, 4 euros for a pair of shoes, etc...

My son went on a university trip over to Dublin and stayed in a youth hostel. The total trip with coach, ferry from York to Dublin and two nights in youth hostel was £200. He didn't mention anything about Dublin being expensive but he is a student so it cannot have been that bad. I would say he had an absolutely fantastic time and would recommend it to you.:)
