Two Nerds Do Disney World - FINAL Update 5/12

So cute that you got Lumar Disney stuff for his bday. And that he liked it! My DH would KILL me!

It rained the whole time we were at the Halloween party in Oct...reading about your P and P party experience brought back memories for me!

LOL at the frog -- I like the shirt you're wearing, I saw that but I got the green one instead :)

I love the PPP pictures!

hi everyone! just wanted to jump in for a quick minute and say thank you and hello to everyone who has responded so far to my last update! That little frog was completely adorable but he scared the pooh out of me. Of course, I'm sure he was just returning the favor because the flash on my camera must've hurt his poor little eyeballs :scared1:

I'm still mad that it was raining so hard though!! If you look at the PP pic where we're in front of the castle you can see how wet we were really good on Lumar's sweatshirt. I mean we were just soaked to the bone. Lumar still claims that it was fun but I still claim that it was miserable. :confused3

thanks everyone! I'm hoping to get in another update tonight or tomorrow!

PS - Scoutie is fine and back to being her usual beasty self!

Friday 3/7

We were supposed to go to Boatwrights for breakfast today…notice I said “supposed to.” We were so tired from the last few nights that we decided to sleep late today – not getting up until 10:30 and even then we didn’t actually leave for Epcot until noon. It was really humid out but it was windy and there were dark clouds lolly-gagging about. The sun was trying to come out though and occasionally it would brighten up a bit.

Since we did the Land side the other day, today we headed to Test Track first to get FP’s. The return time wasn’t until 3:30 and we couldn’t get new FP’s until 3.

Since there was nothing really left in Future World that we wanted to do, we headed into World Showcase. Normally we would do Mission Space but the stand by line was an hour and we didn't feel like waiting. So off we go...

It was about 1:30 when we stopped in the American Adventure for lunch. Lumar was wearing his Birthday Button and got a free Apple Cobbler desert!

IMG_3488.jpg

Those of you who read my last TR’s will remember that the first time we came here in 2005, the Apple Cobbler was so incredibly good that we couldn’t wait to go back in 2006 to get more. When we went back in 06, America was closed. When we went back in 2007, they had changed the recipe and it was totally freakin’ disgusting. We are very happy to report that, while not as good as the original cobbler from 05, they have changed it again and it is better than the one from 07. :thumbsup2

At one point Lumar, got up to go to the bathroom and I started writing some notes for the day. I don’t know what it was but something made me look up and Lumar was standing outside the window staring at me! He scared the holy mess out of me! I was so mad, I hate it when he does that!!

Out the front door – weather looks nice!

IMG_3486.jpg

Out the side door…not so nice…

IMG_3487.jpg

After lunch, we headed to Japan. I picked 2 pearls, both 7mm and Lumar picked an oyster but told me I could have the pearl. The oyster he picked out was a bright red color and it had an 8mm pearl in it!! :lovestruc

IMG_3504.jpg

While I was waiting for my pearls to be set, we walked back to Morocco and sat outside in the outdoor eating area for a while. Lumar was (of course) in the bathroom so I started writing some more notes and just then, Mo’Rockin came out! I had never seen them perform before but I really liked them. I was going to look to see if I could find their CD but I forgot by the time Lumar came out. :headache:

Here’s two of the necklaces that I had pearls set in:

As I was waiting for him though, I figured it was a perfect time to do some good old fashioned “People Watching.” I saw a lady yell at her husband, for what I don’t know but she said something about birds and then at the end of her rant she said really sarcastically “Well what do you think? That’s it! No more!” and then she stormed off leaving the poor guy sitting on the bench outside the bathroom looking totally confused.

I also saw three guys walk back wearing Viking helmets from Norway and the most adorable little girl who reminded me of a Fraggle. It’s really hard to explain and I wish I had the Stranger Stalking skills that Jordan has because I really wanted a picture of her…but she had short layered hair that was put into pigtails and since it had the shaggy layered look, she just reminded me of a Fraggle. That’s really the only way I can describe it. :confused3

I also saw the greatest squirrel ever! There was a man sitting on a bench across the “street” from me and this squirrel was just kinda being nosey under the bench. Well something possessed him to become very brave because he jumped up onto the bench with the guy and was literally sitting like 6 inches from him. The best part: the guy had NO idea. That squirrel could have jacked him for his wallet and he wouldn’t have had any idea. I guess the Mo’Rockin belly dancer is THAT good.

Here I am…just waiting…

By the way, it was about quarter to 5 at this point so clearly we never made it back to Future World to use our Test Track FP’s.

When Lumar finally emerged, we went back to Japan and spent pretty much the rest of the night there…I got three more pearls, Lumar picked up some more Pokemon stuff and then around 6 we left and headed to Mexico for dinner at San Angel Inn.

IMG_3506.jpg

IMG_3515.jpg

I had Camarones con Fideos and Lumar had one of the specials (which I did not write down the name of).

IMG_3520.jpg

Dinner was really good but there was a family sitting behind us that had a child in a diaper that CLEARLY needed changing. It was pretty bad…Lumar almost couldn’t eat because of it and finally the father took the kid to the bathroom.

After dinner it was BACK to Japan although I just stopped in to pick up the last of my pearls that were being set. We left around 8pm to find a spot for Illuminations and at 8:15 it began POURING! We ran into the Italy Pavilion where I picked up a hoodie and 2 ponchos (not making THAT mistake again!) and we sloshed around to Morocco where we watched the fireworks from. Of course TONIGHT they were having extra magic hours and although we really wanted to stay, my feet were killing me from walking around in went flip-flops. I actually took them off and just walked barefoot all the way to the Mouse Gear, where of course, we had to stop and spend oodles of money. Our plan was to spend about an hour in there so we didn’t try to fight 8 million soaking wet people for bus seats, right after Illuminations. We ended being there about 45 minutes and at 10:30 we headed to the bus stop. There was a bus there already but people were packed in there like sardines so we just waited for the next one.

We got back to French Quarter around 11pm and I started sorting out all of our stuff and getting organized. I wanted to make seal that packing for the return trip wasn’t anything like the last time….or the time before that…. I wanted everything that was shippable to be together so I could bring it all down to the gift shop tomorrow night and ship it home, and everything that was coming with us on the plane to also be together so we wouldn’t leave anything behind. I think I finally went to bed around midnight…. Can you believe tomorrow is our last full day??

great update and pics

is that CM looking at u in the apple cobbler and pin pic. :confused3 :scared1:

it sounds like a fuin day.

At least you knew about it and weren't just late.

Right??~~this is excusable!
Since there was nothing really left in Future World that we wanted to do,
What! No Soarin, no nemo, no Ellen???? Wat up???

Score!!! Go Lumar.

This is TOTALLY a guy thing. Don't fight it, it will continue until the end of time. They are the reason we pee a little when we laugh, sneeze, cough or get scared. Years of doing this wreaks havoc on our bladders.

I'm thinking since they do this in Japan, they should have mines in the other countries that you can find Diamonds. Oh yeah, that would be reeee-aaaal nice.

The squirrel works for the group.

Thats a bummer! Can't you use them ANY time after your return time?? I've heard conflicting things about this.

Hello? Pearls annonymous? We have another addict for you!! What happens if you pick one and there isn't anything in it? Does this happen?

No, I can't!! Thats it! You have to go again. Tell Lumar. Make the plans. Tell your parents you are living with them forever so you can fill my days with your exciting Disney World stories.

Great Update!! Loved all the WS pics.

Thanks! As far as I'm aware, that CM was not staring at us but I did notice her when I was posting the picture and I had the same reaction :rotfl:
Epcot is always a fun day! Seriously that place is nerd central! :rotfl2:
We've been to San Angel twice now for dinner and we loved it both times. Everything is really good and the service has been perfect both times although its always jam packed so it's a little hard to walk around and this last time it took a while for our food to come out. But they bring you endless salsa and tortilla chips and the salsa is the best I've ever had. And no, it's not the same salsa that they sell in the Plaza del los Amigos, unfortunately.

At least you knew about it and weren't just late.

Right??~~this is excusable!

Great Update!! Loved all the WS pics.

Well we kind of decided that morning at 7am when the alarm went off that we weren't going and I failed to call them and cancel the ressie which I felt really bad about...I always call ahead if we aren't going to go so that they can give away our table but the line between wakey-time and sleepy-time was very blurry this morning so it basically went something like this:
Alarm goes off
Me: Do you want to go to breakfast?
Lumar: Where is it?
Me: Boatwrights over at Riverside
Lumar: Not really
Me: Ok
Instantly back to sleep

Well we wanted to go on Soarin' but we had already done it the other day and I knew that getting a FP was probably not going to happen...plus we knew we were going to WS and most likely wouldn't be coming back for our TT FP so we didn't want to take a potential spot from someone else. And we have NEVER done Ellen but I always forget about it! And worse...we really wanted to do Honey I Shrunk the Audience on this trip because it's also something we have never done...but WS is brainwashing and it seems that we can only concentrate on getting there ASAP :confused3

Yeah he was excited about the free dessert...and even more excited that he was able to scare the bejesus out of me...like it's really hard :sad2: Jerk... :rotfl: At least I wasn't drinking anything this time....he's made me choke on more than one occasion.

Hmm...a "diamond mine" would be cool...and no, there are never any empty oysters because the pearls are created. Someone opens the oyster a bit, sticks some kind of little pebble or something in it, to guarantee that the oyster generates a pearl. That's what I've been told anyway...don't know if it's accurate. But I've never seen an empty one so I'm assuming it's at least partially true.

That squirrel was so freakin' cute. Lumar said the same thing you did - that he works for the group!

CM's have told us you can use them anytime after the return time but we've never shown up late except if an attraction was closed during our return time so I don't know if they turn people away or not. We were just much too lazy (and honestly we completely forgot about the FP's) to walk all the way back. When I remembered them at quarter of 5, we just didn't feel like trekkin' back there since dinner time was rapidly approaching.

I'm still working up the nerve to talk to my mom about an October trip. Lumar's vacation policy at his job changed so we can't go for 9 nights like we have been but we should be able to get in a full week at least. We'll see if I can go through with talking to my mom about it.

And yes I was organized wasn't I?? :lmao: I was just so tired of always having to rush around the night before we leave, not going to bed until 2am, and then having to get up again at 6am to finish packing and trying to stuff all of our souvenirs into an empty carry-on bag. Wait til I get to the part where we actual go down the gift shop to ship everything....

Love the updates...sorry about the rain!!!! Bummers!!!!

World Showcase is so great when you don't have anywhere particular to be and you can just enjoy sitting at a table and peoplewatching and taking great pix (I like the the one of the water wheel)

Jordy!! I've missed you!

The rain was a total bummer! And it wasn't just "rain" it was an all out deluge! I mean there were FROGS man!! :rotfl2: Horrible.... :sad2: But in all fairness this was the first WDW trip we've been on where this has happened to us so I guess we were due. Lucky number 7, right?

Epcot is a GREAT park to spend a whole day at when you have nothing to do. That was our favorite day...we just kept walking back and forth, around and around. It was perfect...until the rain came again... :rolleyes1

I'm so glad to hear that Scout-the-bunny is feeling better! I was worried when you wrote that he wasn't eating but relieved when you said he was back to his old self. My bunnies are currently lounging in their houses with no bunny cares in the world! Gotta love those long-eared fluff-heads!:)

I have to tell you that I LOVE that picture of RnR and ToT in the same frame...I am trying to figure out how you did that!! I need to check that shot out when I'm there...GREAT PICTURE!!!

I do love them but wow do they cause stress! This is the second time she has gone into stasis and the strange thing is that the first time was almost EXACTLY a year ago. All of her old meds were dated 3/30/07 and now all of her new meds are from April 2008. She's such a beast though! She bit the vet that was treating her last year, and she bit me twice the other day while I was trying to give her meds! 4 pounds of pure bunny-love! :rolleyes2 I'm thinking the changes in the weather are what bring it on. I volunteer for a rabbit rescue and we have a couple there that have just recently stopped eating too... Make sure you stay tuned for my last update - I have a bunny-related surprise! :rolleyes1

Right when you get off of RnRC and you walk out of the gift shop you can see both at the same time. I had never seen a pic with both the guitar and the ToT so I had to get one!

Luv the pearlspirate:
Glad to hear that Scoutie has bounced back!

Thanks! I have so many necklaces I don't know what to do with myself! Since you can't sleep with them on, I end up taking them off and then forgetting to put them on again...I actually have misplaced one for the time being and I'm rather upset about it but every time I try to look for it I get distracted.

Yes, she is back to her old beasty self...munching away on lettuce as I type! :cutie:
