Oh my, DD 11 and DS 13 are in a battle for who gets to read the book first. DD states that DS always gets to read the new Harry Potter book first (true). DS states that his gift card (plus some of my own funds) bought the book so he gets to read it first. Share? unlikely - both DD and DS are unlikely to even put the book down until it is read. I may have to purchase 2 copies to keep peace in the house. What to do, what to do....

Anyone else buying multiple copies to preserve sanity, peace and quiet?

my older dd is 12 1/2, younger dd will be 11 next month.

I pre ordered a copy form barnes and noble, thought about who was going to read it fiurst, thought about the fighting I'd have to referee, and decided another $22 would save my sanity.

two copies have been shipped to me and will arrive on saturday.

When the last one came out, DD was 16 and DS was 13. They managed to share. DD finished in 7 days and DS in 10, with them taking turns. I refuse to buy 2 copies. I have one on order from Amazon, but they both go away to camp this weekend.

dh and i are buying two copies and we don't even have kids. :p :o

If your son used his money to buy it, he should be able to read it first.

LOL caitycaity!

I guess I'm lucky both dh and ds will be out of town this weekend.

How much are your funds going into the book? You could use a timer for limits.

I read that Sonya and her dh got two books and are planning on donating the extra to the liabary when they are done. That would be a good choice.

We have me, my mom, and my brother who want to read it.
My mom bought it so she thinks she should get it.
I think I should read it first because I read the books the quickest (I read all 4 books in a week) and I don't think my brother should get it because it takes him MONTHS to read one and by the time they both finish and I could get it...I'll be at college.

I agree that if your DS is using his money to help purchase the book, he should get to read it before your DD.

I have a copy of the book and the CDs on pre-order from B&N. Jim Dale does such an awesome job reading the book, I prefer to hear the voices he uses for the characters. It also has the added benefit that we can all enjoy the book at the same time.

This was my first thought as well. The fastest reader should get it first. My DH will read it in a couple days and it will take me at least a couple weeks.

We ARE buying 2 copies but one will be donated to our library branch. They were worried about having a 1 YEAR waiting list to check out the book when they might not even have enough funding to buy it!

I got the audio on reserve for mom and book on hold for me(but mom's 2nd in line and I'm 54th,not a good wait but the local library does get extra copies and has a 1 week limit on best sellers like this)

1 book - 3 people who want to read it - Mom gets first crack.

Thems the breaks! :) Its tough when you don't pay the bills. :p

At our house.....2 kids = 2 copies.
GREAT IDEA to donate the extra copy!!!
If not the library then I'm sure the local children's hospital could make use of it. Thanks for the great idea!

DD13 and I have a deal.
When she goes to bed I'll take over her copy.
Oh yea.....and NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO DISCUSS THE BOOK UNTIL THE ENTIRE HOUSEHOLD HAS FINISHED!
Luckily we are all fairly quick readers.

:bounce: :bounce: Here's to HARRY!! :bounce: :bounce:

I don't have any kids yet either but I would think that it is definitely worth getting 2 copies... not because of the fighting but because your kids are jumping at the chance to read... I would invest in 5 copies if I had 5 kids. These are video games or anything like that.

1 Mom and 1 12yo son = 2 copies.

That is a great idea about the Children's Hospital. It's either that or I'll resell it on Amazon and put the money into the next bookstore trip.

We're going to try to read it at the same time!!! Don't know if it'll work - kids during the day, mom and dad at night. I got some colored post-its to use as bookmarks. I have a feeling we'll be picking up another copy. Luckily, I can function on very little sleep so I plan on reading through the night. Whew!

Can't wait to start!

Ok, I know your kids are older but here's what I'd do. I would sit down every evening and read the book aloud to both kids. I know that may not appeal to lots of folks though. The reason I suggest it is because I always liked my mom to read aloud to me. And I've found that my dh and dd both like me to read aloud to them. There's just something neat about everyone snuggling on the sofa reading something together that makes it fun for us.

I thought on Good Morning America I saw a paperback. Better get the glasses checked. LOL!
