However Nina Heyn, Disney's Executive Director of International Publicity, is defending the $80 million movie, which stars Viggo Mortensen. Speaking to a British journalist, Heyn said, "No one here really cares about the historical aspects. Once a picture has been shot, people move on to others. We're like a factory. Its like making dolls. Once the latest doll is out we go onto the next one. if it transpires that the historical aspects are in question I don't think people would care that much."

There are so many things in the universe that cannot be "verified". Perhaps everything the man did in his life is not true, or perhaps it is. No one will ever know for sure. And besides this is a movie, and even movies "based on a true story" take dramatic storytelling license and twist the facts.

I think this was the shocking part tht d-r was talking about...

Once a picture has been shot, people move on to others. We're like a factory. Its like making dolls.

That's an accurate description of every studio in Hollywood from the beginning of filmed entertainment. Nothing shocking in that statement to me.

HA.... not when Walt was running he stuidos it was not a factory just to crank out movies.

Europa,

You should read history of Walt Disney Productions. The studio has always worked that way. With a smaller staff and fewer pictures each film received more personal love and care but still once a movie was finished even Walt started working on the next film, yes even multiple films at once, and not just sitting around answering critics complaints until the film was out of theaters,

Show - of course once a film was out the door they started another, and of course they worked on multiple films at once, but I don't think anyone who worked on "20K leagues under the sea" or "Swiss Family Robinson" or "Sleeping Beauty" or "Lady and the Tramp" or "Bambi" would have said "We're like a factory." Maybe I'm wrong. And I sure do have tapes of old "Disneyland" shows were Walt was promoting films like 20K and Lady and theTramp, etc., after they were finished and out in the theaters - I don't think he was "just sitting around," but he wasn't saying we don't care anything about this film, either.

I'm not talking about the pace of which movies are made or if they are made 3-4-10 at at time. My point was/is that in Walt's time movies weren't seen as some sort of mass produced factory work. "Lets hurry up and finish Snow White" because we have another one to make right after it. Using the analogy of a Factory makes it sound like every movie is the same, every idea is the same and there for no need to put great effort into make the current movie as we have another one right behind it. It's not a subtle difference and if you can't see that then I'm sorry.
