Two Germans Dine Deluxe Again ... (FINISHED!)

Ich liebe deine Speisse Fotografien!!

Haha did I say that right?? I took German for 5 years and went to Germany for the first time two years ago. I loved it there, I would love to go back! Unfortunately, Ive forgotten a lot of what I have learned.

I am really enjoying your reviews and pictures =)

Everything looks wonderful so far.

I am glad you had a good meal at yachtsmans as I booked this but was not completely sold on the idea your food looked really good though!

We love Crystal Palace too but always go for lunch on our first day there. Well have done twice! I am sure that this is now a tradition.

As for serving beer in MK at Disneyland Paris - they need to:lmao:.

Looking forward to more.

It may have been rich, but that garlic bread with the tomatoes looks SO yummy!

I know, I am kind of impressed with that photo myself, must have accidentally turned on the correct mode on my camera :)

Really enjoying your reviews! Am so glad that you like seafood, so that I can get my fishy fix vicariously...would KILL for some of that oysters rockefeller right now!

So would I :thumbsup2 Glad to have you along, fellow seafood lover!

Having a great time reading your reviews! I am a huge fan of Douglas Adams and of home-style french fries (the ones with the skin). 2 things - Five Guys does have THE best french fries so if you have a chance check them out! And the other is that the cinnamon pastry is a cinnamon roll, Main Street Bakery has the yummiest cinnamon rolls :cloud9:

Douglas Adams and french fries with the skin on, looks like we have a lot in common! :thumbsup2

No seriously, I really adore Douglas Adams. I was lucky enough to be able to attend two readings of his in my hometown in the late nineties (he read both from the Hitchhiker's Guide - "Marvin stood at the end of the bridge corridor" -, and from "Last Chance To See"), and even receive a very nice answer to a fan e-mail I sent him later. Can't believe what a funny, witty and warm-hearted person he was, and will keep missing him.

Ja, ich verstehe dich! Vielen Dank! :flower3:

Thank you, feel free to practice your German on this thread anytime you like! :thumbsup2:cool1:

As long as you've done it twice, it's definitely a tradition. Otherwise, our breakfast there couldn't be ;)

Next instalment coming up in a moment!

When I was a kid here in Germany, Halloween was never a big issue. I have never gone trick-or-treating, dressed up, or seen any scary decorations for Halloween.
Since I’ve grown up, however, Halloween is becoming more and more popular here – no doubt originally started by the Halloween industry who wanted a slice of the revenue that this holiday generates in the States, it has quickly become popular with German kids (free sweets and cool costumes – how couldn’t it have?).

Many adults also have Halloween parties now, and we sadly were to miss our friends’ ever-popular, Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-influenced annual Halloween party since we were in WDW.
To make up for that, we had decided to book tickets for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, albeit not for October 31st but for the 25th.
I had been toying with the idea of booking Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights instead, but then DH lovingly reminded me that I am a hopeless wuss who screams her lungs out when a guy in a Freddy Krueger mask pops out at me at the otherwise pitiably badly done haunted house at our local fair.
What can I say – he has known me for ten years, and he is always right. So MNSSHP it was to be. :thumbsup2

Now, this report is supposed to be all about the food, but since we had so little of that at MNSSHP (wonder why – too terrified to eat? :confused3), I have decided to throw in a few non-food pictures as well for those of you who have not yet had a chance to experience MNSSHP themselves.

So, here is us appreciating the Halloween-specific decorations …

… and getting our bearings for the night’s events and parades.

But a short time later, it got darrrrrk … :scared1:

P1040672.jpg

… and all sorts of eerie creatures came out of hiding. Like a guy dressed as a gallon of milk, by far my favourite costume of the evening. I’m not going to post his picture since he was surrounded by his kids and I’d rather not post close-ups of other peoples’ kids on the internet, but I adored his costume.

Feeling slightly peckish but not having any specific plans for dinner (I now, that must have been a first!), we ate at the first place that we passed, which turned out to be Pecos Bill Café.

Signature Dining at MNSSHP: Cheeseburgers, Potato Fries and Bottled Water, Enjoyed on the Porch.

We didn’t go back in to get any dessert as we were too eager to get on with the party, and this turned out to be a good thing because lo and behold:

Dessert!

At intervals around the Magic Kingdom there were “Trick or Treating Trails” set up where you could get in line, how your little treat bag open and be handed out sweets. Cool! Especially since I had never seen most of these types of sweets before. popcorn::

Anyway, as we didn’t get anything else to eat that evening, let me finish with just a few more impressions of MNSSHP:

Even more haunted that usual …

P1040701.jpg

I bet there’s grim grinning ghosts in there tonight too …

Boo to You … Believe me, you will be humming that catchy little tune for at least the remainder of your holiday!

Loved the cups!

Having survived Halloween, coming up next: Lunch at Beaches and Cream!

Thanks for the MNSSHP review. We will be trying it for the first time in October :)

Loved your pictures of MNSSHP. We have booked our tickets for this October yeah!!

Looks like the two of you might meet at MNSSHP in October :thumbsup2

Have fun!

I will try to have the Beaches and Cream instalment up by tonight ... no promises though :rolleyes1

Loved your last review. Havent been on here for ages... it makes me :sad2: when we don't have an upcoming trip, but needed a bit of Disney food cheering up as my friend is off there in the morning, and i am just sooo envious, and there you were :woohoo::thumbsup2:cool1::worship:

DH has given up his job to be a student, so its going to be about 3 years till we can go back to the my most favorite place EVER. But am planning a huge trip, Cruise and Stay by way of celebration for when he graduates (3 years of planning.... am just soooo going to be bouncing of the ceiling by the time it comes around lol).

Looking forward your your next installment :goodvibes

Glad to be here in time for some much-needed Disney food cheering up! :woohoo:

And while you still have to wait a while for yur next DCL and Disney trip - with three years of planning I'm sure it will be the greatest trip ever! :cheer2:

Originally, we had planned to have an earlyish lunch at Teppan Edo today. (Had to be earlyish since our “dinner” was in fact to be a late lunch at Le Cellier :rolleyes1).

After sleeping in and spending a leisurely morning at Stormalong Bay (the beautiful Yacht and Beach club pool), however, we didn’t feel like packing up and rushing off to Epcot, so we cancelled Teppan Edo.

It is a bit of a pity, really, as this was already the second time we cancelled Teppan Edo for some reason – we had done the same on our last trip, so we still haven’t had a chance to try it out. We will definitely make reservations there on our next WDW trip, whenever that may turn out to be, and then we will make an effort not to cancel again!

Anyway, today we went for the stress-free alternative, and that was just wandering over to Beaches and Cream from the pool, and going back for a little after-dinner sleep by the pool afterwards. Unusually laid back for a Disney holiday, I know. Our last trip had been so hectic that we had decided to definitely take it slower this trip, and make time for a bit of serious lazing around :beach:.

This meant we only had a few dozen steps to walk to lunch, and we didn’t even need a reservation so we could just wander over spontaneously as soon as we started feeling peckish.
(This is a bit of a mixed blessing, of course: Beaches and Cream does not accept reservations at all, which means you can't really plan this ahead and may encounter really long waits if you're unlucky.)

They did not have any free tables, but we were sat straightaway at the counter where we proceeded to take strange pictures of ourselves.

The place's whole décor is meant to evoke a classic 1950s American diner. Or so I am told, anyway – I was neither in the USA nor even born in the 1950s ;). Everything is bright and shining, in happy colours, and you can't help but feel good in this setting. :goodvibes

(Slightly blurry, sorry!)

The menu, sporting the same colours as the rest of the décor …

P1040770.jpg

… and me, miraculously also sporting the same colours as the rest of the décor :thumbsup2 ...
... admiring my glorious strawberry smoothie. This was so yummy and irresistible that I ended up wandering over from the pool to get another one of these twice more during this trip :goodvibes.

Ever-greedily, we ordered more than just smoothies:

P1040776.jpg

Yummy, juicy cheeseburgers – a single one for me and a double one for DH. (Because I have so much more self-control than him. Not. Well, only ever this once. :rolleyes1)

They came with a choice of either french fries or fruit, and however much I love my fries, I was still vaguely aware of the fact that our next lunch-aka-dinner was only a few short hours away at Le Cellier. And thus we settled for the fruit – a nice light option!

P1040772.jpg

Lots of bowls and glasses for the ice cream portions …

The most famous (or is it infamous?) ice cream dish that Beaches and Cream offers is the Kitchen Sink, a gigantic portion of dozens of scoops of ice cream with a gallon of cream and topped with every sauce and topping available within a 2-mile radius. Or something like that.

Let me tell you, though, that the thing is huge – and we were witnesses as a familiy of four (Mum, Dad and two pre-teen kids) ordered it :scared1:.
(I could kick myself for not taking a picture of that, but I was not quick enough in grabbing my camera and then I felt uncomfortable openly taking pictures of strangers.

Anyway, the lights went out and a flash light came on, the waiters launched into some spiel about the ingredients (“a can of cream – A WHOLE CAN!”), they carried the Kitchen Sink over to those people's table, and then you could see Mum in a shocked daze trying to comprehend what she had just ordered (and probably haunted by visions of having to deal with her hyper-sugar-crazed offspring for the remainder of the day).

Needless to say, they did not come close to finishing even half of it.

P1040779.jpg

Not the kitchen sink.
(But rather a sad story really: This cute little guy was created, put down on the counter directly opposite us, and then proceeded to slowly melt into oblivion.
When he was almost gone, a server noticed him, chucked him, made a new one and served that to a customer. :confused3 :thumbsup2)

All in all, we loved this place. Friendly, happy, colourful ambience, convenient location right next to the swimming pool (which is only open to Yacht and Beach Club guests, alas), gloriously yummy smoothies and great no-frills food (at affordable prices, even).
The only thing that was less-than-perfect was the air-conditioning: The place was as cold as the inside of a freezer (or the inside of the Sci-Fi Dine-In, where I almost froze my toes off the year before), so should you contemplate coming here straight from the pool wearing your not-yet-totally dry swimsuit underneath your clothes like I did, beware!!

Coming up next: Another lunch – this time at Le Cellier!

The burgers at Beaches and Cream are absolutely delicious. I would love one of those right now!

Just popping in to say I am loving your reviews...yet again! I very much enjoyed your first, am so impressed with your excellent English, and I think you and your hubby are adorable. Thanks for venturing into the dining report arena again! I'm looking forward to reading more.

Oh, and I agree on B&C burgers. LOVE them! Wish I had one right now, in fact :rolleyes1

Yum! Beaches and Cream looks fabulous. I love those little 50's diner looking places and cheeseburgers and milkshakes! My mom and I are looking forward to eating there and having the No Way Jose (but only chocolate ice cream and peanut butter sauce)

You went to B&C and didn't order ice cream

You have amazing will power

We are going to go for the Kitchen Sink this November- my boys wanted to try it this past month when it was just the three of us, and I told them NO WAY!!! We need Daddy here for that one! :thumbsup2:rotfl:

Really enjoying your reviews-

Beaches and Cream looks so darn good. I need to get over there on this next trip.

Man...we really need to do Beaches and Cream someday. Maybe when the kids are big enough to share the Kitchen Sink with, LOL!

Signing in! :thumbsup2 We're going to many restaurants from your list in our next 2 trips, probably because we're also doing the DxDP and we are staying at YC in Sept.

The "deconstructed," or whatever it is, Yachtsman ceasar salad are IMHO ridiculous. My DS had a similar whole romain leaf salad at Cali Grill. It was in the kids menu, and it was hard for him to cut and eat it. Would have been much easier if it was chopped.
