Two first timers take on free dining...was it a success? 13-27 Sept 2011- Complete...

I'm glad you were treated so well, it speaks to highly of Disney World and it's chefs.:thumbsup2

I know lots of people have all kinds of different reasons for needing special dining requests. That Disney tries so hard to take care of that should make people who are scared of not being able to find something to eat feel better.

Boma! Definitely one of my favorites!!! I'm so glad that you got such great treatment there.

Glad you were able to try the juice at dinner; it is reason enough for us to keep going back for breakfast. :goodvibes

Glad Boma was so great for you! I know what you mean about those desserts - those were my favorite part of dinner there. I love how they're all in small portions so you can taste lots of them!

I've done breakfast at Boma a few times but never dinner. I'll have to switch it up next time! Johnny was awfully disappointed that we didn't get to go this trip!
Glad you guys got such great service!

Glad to hear you loved Boma. This is going to be a first or us as we are staying AKL and have a ressie for both breakfast and dinner.

Boma sound wonderful! Disney really is great about accomodating dietry/allergy restrictions. :thumbsup2

I really wanted to go Boma this trip but DS wasn't really impressed on our last visit so we skipped. I wish we could go there now.

How great was that..2 chefs taking extra special care of you at Boma! That is so cool! Glad you enjoyed your meal there, we just love Boma for breakfast and that jungle juice, YUMMY!

Boma looks great and I'm so glad they had such amazing service! That chicken looks delicious!

Wow, Disney truly outdid itself with those chefs. I am so happy they were so wonderful :) So glad you enjoyed the food! I think I refilled my plate 4 times. :rotfl: The only thing I didn't like was the salmon, it was dry on our visit. That jungle juice is THE BEST! I didn't know they had it at Boma :sad1: The only place I encountered it was on the Wild Africa Trek, I think I could drink my weight in that wonderful liquid!

It sure did - we couldn't believe the lengths they went to in order to make sure we had a great meal :thumbsup2 The food was delish! Zaheer went back a few times hence the reason he couldn't finish the chicken  I think he also tasted the salmon though I stayed away from it. That juice is AWESOME! You can get it at Boma and Tusker House so we enjoyed it at both places :goodvibes

Ooh I would love to go on the Wild Africa Trek one day as it looks great.

What's not to love about BOMA? It was a highlight of our 2010 trip and I would love to try it for breakfast one day. So glad you guys were well taken care of. Leave it up to Disney to make us feel like royalty! :thumbsup2

Q

Exactly! :thumbsup2 I have read some great reviews of the breakfast and would also love to try it one day. Haha they sure know how to treat us! :goodvibes

So glad to hear you loved Boma! It might just be my all-time favorite place to have dinner at WDW. On our family trip last year, I think Boma was the 2nd or 3rd dinner we had... my BIL wanted to go back, he loved it so much!

I think Zaheer would agree with you! Although I loved our dinner here not sure it would be my all-time favourite place. However, I would have to make sure I return at least once during a trip. Haha Zaheer was the same - he was like when are we coming back here and I was like 'we're not'. I think he will be paying more attention the next time he hears the words 'where do you want to eat at Disney World?' :rotfl2:

Thanks! I'm glad as well - they really do not need to do so much for people but they do. It shows they love their jobs and enjoy being there :thumbsup2

It sure should - I know some people who are scared of trying new places as they like the 'comfort' of returning to the same places. However, my motto is to 'always try something once' :goodvibes

Boma! Definitely one of my favorites!!! I'm so glad that you got such great treatment there.

Yay!! I can understand why it would be a favourite! :thumbsup2 It was such a good experience.

Glad you were able to try the juice at dinner; it is reason enough for us to keep going back for breakfast. :goodvibes

Haha yep that juice sure is AWESOME! I would return for that alone and would love to try this place for breakfast one day :goodvibes

Thanks! Exactly - you don't feel guilty having so many as they are only small so can't do much harm, right? :rotfl:

Ooh I'd love to have breakfast at Boma next time so think we both need to switch it up! It must be a guy thing as am sure Zaheer would be disappointed if he didn't return here one day.
I was glad as well.

Glad to hear you loved Boma. This is going to be a first or us as we are staying AKL and have a ressie for both breakfast and dinner.

:welcome: and thanks for joining! We loved Boma and if I ever get to stay at AKL I will be doing the same :thumbsup2

I really wanted to go Boma this trip but DS wasn't really impressed on our last visit so we skipped. I wish we could go there now.

It was wonderful! They sure are great. At one stage I was just going to order the vegetarian/fish options but then a DISer informed me I would be able to get halal meat and it made my day :thumbsup2

I hope you get to go back on a future trip - lol I would love to be having dinner here tonight!

It sure was great! I couldn't believe how we were being treated - only at Disney! :thumbsup2 I agree in that the jungle juice sure is YUMMY! I would love to have breakfast here one day :cloud9:

Boma looks great and I'm so glad they had such amazing service! That chicken looks delicious!

Thanks! It sure was a great meal with amazing service! :thumbsup2 That chicken tasted delish as well!

Wow, Boma looks amazing! And its wonderful that they took such great care of you guys. Also, I think I saw in one of your earlier posts that you mentioned Disney Quest. How was it? I'm thinking of going there with my brother since it seems like the type of thing he might like. Of course, if you're going to talk about it later I'll just wait patiently :)

It was amazing! I hope you get to try it on a future trip as I think you would really enjoy it :thumbsup2 The people here were just great - I can't commend them enough.

Yes I did mention Disney Quest and will be getting to it later on but am not sure if it will be before you leave. :woohoo: on it being 10 days to go!!!

I thought DQ was okay - I did a couple of games but that was enough for me. However Zaheer loved it!! I think he would have been happy with just visiting the water parks and DQ. He visited here solo on a couple of times as well. If your brother enjoys arcade games he will love this place hands down. If you go with him you could always do what I did and take a break at the cafe which has Starring Roll cupcakes ;)

It seems as thought you&I both spent a lot of time over on Dfb planning for our trips! That choc peanut butter cupcake is going DOWN when I get my hands on one finally! Love your reviews, can't wait for more!popcorn:::thumbsup2

Oh, wow, I didn't even realize the trip was so close until you said that! I have so much to do since I've been so busy with the new job. I'm going to have to devote the weekend to trip planning and packing. My brother does enjoy arcade games. And if Zaheer went there several times that definitely says something. I was sold once you mentioned the starring roll cupcakes :) I've been wanting to try one so this will be perfect for both of us.

I'm glad you had such a great experience at Boma!! Disney does a great job at making accomodations! The food also looks yummy!! We haven't eaten there yet, but it's on the list for future visits! :thumbsup2

I've been hearing such great things about Boma lately. I really have to try to get that on my ADR list for next time! Glad you had such an awesome meal there!

Lol, yes it sure does look that way! I hope you take plenty of pics of the choc peanut butter cupcake so I can drool when you get back! :lmao: Thank you - I hope to post more in a few minutes :goodvibes

Oh wow that makes it even better! I hope you get all the packing done this weekend - how dare a new job get in the way! :lmao: In that case your brother will love DQ and be prepared to him wanting to go back on lots of occasions. The minute I found out Starring Roll cupcakes were sold here I knew I had to pay it a visit :) Enjoy your trip and can't wait to hear all about it.

Thanks! It sure does and yes the food was very yummy! I hope you get to try it one day as there is plenty to choose from so I think anyone would enjoy the experience! :cool1:

It sure is great! I hope you get to visit on your next trip and look forward to hearing how you find it. Thanks!

Another late start (this was becoming a theme!) so we headed straight to Epcot and had a late breakfast/early lunch at Sunshine Seasons. We got the seared tuna with noodles, coffee, tomato soup (snack credit) and of course the Strawberry Shortcake (after falling in love with this there was no way I was trying any other dessert!)

The tuna with noodles was nice (kept us going until later). I didn't like the tomato soup however Zaheer really enjoyed it.

As you know none of that mattered! I would come here for the Strawberry Shortcake alone! Mmm mouth watering again! I really want one right about now! :rotfl:

As we were in Epcot we went to Club Cool and enjoyed the different choices. Our favourite was the apple flavour (think it was from Mexico). I did trick Zaheer into drinking Beverly but unfortunately was too slow with the camera! I wish I had switched it to video - he wasn't willing to drink it again after the first try!

This was also the day we finally ended up in Karamelle Kuche! I took pics of the window displays and oh my I was in heaven! So many goodies! :cloud9: It was a shame that we didn't have many snack credits left. I decided to try the chocolate caramel cupcake. This was actually pretty good even if the frosting was a bit heavy. Zaheer enjoyed it as well. I really wanted to try the caramel popcorn as well but didn't get any this time round. I really regret not being able to try some but next trip that will be top of the list!

This was the only day that we did not return to Pop for a rest before dinner. I had purposefully got an early ADR so we were able to watch Illuminations afterwards. We had a dinner with the princesses at Akershus! We got there, checked in and waited about 3-4 minutes before we were called in. We took a picture with Belle which was included in the package. This is the one Zaheer took with our camera.

498-2.jpg

We were shown to our table and met with our server Kristian. He was very good and quite a charmer. He was actually being flirtatious in front of Zaheer though him being the typical bloke hadn't even noticed!

Anyway onto the food and I got a roll with butter, tuna pasta, salmon, beets, coleslaw and the asparagus with a seafood dip. It was all very yummy and Zaheer chose similar food to me.

499-1.jpg

I was worried I would miss the princesses but Zaheer assured me we would be fine.

For our main Zaheer chose the Pan-Seared Salmon with roasted root vegetable hash and cardamom lemon grass glaze. I was torn between the Catch of the Day which was cod in a mustard sauce and the Mushroom Stuffed Pasta. I asked Kristian which he would recommend and he said it was a tough choice but he would go with the Catch of the Day. I'm glad I chose this main as it was very yummy and I cleared the plate. Zaheer tasted some of mine and says he preferred it to his Salmon. We never asked about halal meat at this place as we fancied a change and there were quite a few options we could choose from.

I also had a lovely lemonade which was great. I miss that lemonade as we do not get it in the UK :sad2:

Catch of the day:

Whilst we were eating the Princesses came round. First was Snow White and I asked her how Grumpy was doing. She said he had found jewels today so he was okay.

500-1.jpg

Ariel was next and noticed our pin - she mentioned how Scuttle would love it!

501-1-1.jpg

Cinderella came and this was a bit of a brief stop - she wished Zaheer and I many happy ever after years.

502-1.jpg

Aurora missed our table but came back and was very nice. She told us her and Prince Phillip had been horseriding and asked what we had been doing.

503-1.jpg

We wanted to try the desserts but were not sure if we could have them because of gelatine - it was the mousse that we were unsure of. We mentioned this to Kristian and he went to check with the chef. He came back to say that the head chef wasn't there and the others weren't sure. He said he could bring us some sorbet so we decided to have that instead. This was good but obviously we would have preferred the usual desserts - oh well it was better to be safe than sorry! Sorry but I don't seem to have any pics of the sorbet we got.

We settled our bill and mentioned to Kristian that we were going to watch Illuminations. He said that France was the best place to watch them so we headed in that direction.

Review of today:

Sunshine Seasons - A. Food was good and I was very happy to get my hands on the Strawberry Shorcake again!
Karamelle Kuche - B+ Cupcake was good but the frosting was a bit heavy. However, seeing the display alone made my day!
Club Cool - A Great place and loved the different choices as well as tricking Zaheer into drinking Beverly

Akershus

Food - A+ Was plenty of variety at the buffet and then the mains were very yummy! The only thing that I missed was the desserts but the sorbet hit the spot and we had eaten so much by this point that maybe it was a good thing we never got to try the sample of desserts on offer here.
Service - A+ Kritian was very attentive and made sure our plates were cleared and drinks were refilled during our meal.
Atmosphere - A It was a bit noisy but that was expected and it was still a very good atmosphere and meeting all the Princesses without the waits sure was a bonus.

Would we return?

Me: Yes, yes and yes - I loved this place and would say it was one of my all-time favourite meals!
Zaheer: Not sure. 'The food was good but you only booked this so you could see the Princesses. I would rather have returned to Boma.'

I fell in love with the caramel popcorn...I bought 3 bags total and brought 2 home with me! One of my young ladies at work is a Werther's fiend so I brought her a bag!

We love Akershus for breakfast, have done dinner but we enjoyed the breakfast potato casserole so much we chose it over dinner all the time :lmao:
