Two first timers take on free dining...was it a success? 13-27 Sept 2011- Complete...

Caught up! :woohoo:

Even though I love the food at SS, it is always just lukewarm when you get to a table.
Their desserts are to die for though! ;)

Not a huge fan of Le Chefs de Paris. But I am glad you liked your meal.

Strawberry Shortcake from Sunshine Seasons is another thing that we skipped this year. I would so go back to Sunshine Seasons just for the cake!!!

I also want to to Les Chef's next trip!

I feel the same way! I would make numerous trips to Sunshine Seasons for that cake alone!! :lmao: I hope you get to visit here on a future trip.

Yay! Hope you get to plan a reservation here as well and enjoy it!

Wheww! Now I'm totally caught up on all your reports. I love that beet salad, but I'm a dressing hog! Yum Yum Yum on all those bakery treats! There are so many places we still haven't gotten to eat at, which just means more excuses for more trips!

Whew! You've been busy today! Thanks for catching up on all my reports :goodvibes

Yeah, Zaheer loved it more than me and like you he loves his dressings! Me on the other hand not so much. Yum yum indeed! I planned the food for this trip around the yummy treats and still didn't get to try everything. Oh well another reason to plan a future trip ;)

Yay on being all caught up! :yay:

We only got cold food from here so didn't really notice the food being lukewarm. However their desserts are YUMMY! Just thinking about them makes me go on :cloud9:

The meal at Chefs was good but I can see why you wouldn't be a huge fan of this place.

You know I shouldn't be reading your dining review while I hungry and have nothing to snack on!

Well, thats not true, they are things here I could eat, but no Strawberry Shortcake from SS! I think that maybe one of my favorite things every eaten while at Disney!

Your Food at Chefs looked yummy!

I wish I had some carmel corn for Germany right now!

Lol I feel hungry every time I write a dining review! :rotfl:

Haha yes there is nothing quite like a Strawberry Shortcake from SS! I agree in that it does rate very highly on my treats list and I would definitely return for another one any day!

It was yummy but we had tasted better. Watching Illuminations however was great!

I read a recipe on the DIS (can't remember where now) of how to make some caramel corn - I didn't take note as I am not the most creative when it comes to food!

Just came across your dining reviews. I have enjoyed reading all and was surprised to read that you can see Illuminations from inside Les Chefs de France.
Can not wait to read more.

:welcome: and am glad that you are enjoying the reviews :goodvibes

We weren't expecting to see Illuminations so clearly but we had the perfect view.

More coming right up.

This was another late start for us - we did not get up until 9am however we had stayed for EMHs the night before. I watched some football before we got ready and went to Everything Pop.

To start our day I got Mickey waffles!!! I loved having these and wish I could have them now. Mmm yummy breakfast!! :cloud9: I had them with waffle syrup and fell in love with them. As I could not have the meat I was given a bag of grapes instead.

Zaheer got a veggie calzone - I don't know how he can have that for breakfast! :lmao: I got an orange juice and Zaheer chose apple juice. He also got a blueberry muffin as he was ordering from the lunch menu!

Zaheer got a frozen banana as a snack during the day (sorry do not have a photo!) I had a bite of this and we both agreed it was a bit meh. At least we had tried one though.

For lunch we had planned to go to Starring Rolls. However, they did not have any vegetarian options and had run out of the chocolate peanut butter cupcakes! Zaheer got a banana split which he said was good and I chose the red velvet cupcake. I was so happy that I had chosen this cupcake as it was so smooth and velvety. It rates highly on my treats list :thumbsup2

Dinner tonight was courtesy of 50s PTC. Our server was Cousin Kimberley and we were sat in a seperate room to one side which I did not enjoy - I wanted to be involved in the antics! Cousin Kimberley bought us our plates to set up but that was about it. After that it was just like being in a normal restaurant.

I ordered a strawberry smoothie and Zaheer got a sprite. We both got the fried chicken with mashed potato and green beans. The meal was okay and I did enjoy seeing some antics through the window - just a shame we never got to experience them.

For dessert I got the Boston Parfait (which was yummy!) and Zaheer chose the apple crumble. He enjoyed his dessert as well!

We settled the bill and headed out of the park.

Review of today:

Everything Pop - The waffles were very scrumptious! A+
Starring Rolls - B. We loved our choices but were disappointed in the lack of options available.

50s PTC:

Service - B+ Cousin Kimberley was good but we just wanted some more antics during our meal.
Atmosphere - B. We didn't like being seated on the side and would have preferred to be in the main hall where all the fun was taking place.
Food - B. Loved the drinks/desserts but wasn't too impressed by the main course.

Would we return? Maybe one day but only after trying some other restaurants first.

Oooohhhh that red velvet cupcake looks delish!

I found the year I went with my BFF on a girls only trip that they did the same to us at 50s...we were disappointed too as the year before when we were there with Jasmine too, they made such a fuss and ended up putting my BFF in the corner for tattle tailing...it was hilarious! I guess some adults don't want the fuss but I say then dine somewhere else!!:lmao: Bring on the fun I say!!!

Oh my, I'm sorry you didn't love where you were seated at 50's PT! We were off to the side in a seperate room too, I wonder if it was the same spot? However we were such a big group that we created our own antics, so I didn't mind it, lol. I had the fried chicken too, but I loved it! Funny how the same things do different things for different people.

Mmm... that cupcake looks amazing! And I know it sounds weird but I like the sound of the vegetable calzone for breakfast too :) Good luck on the job search!

Those muffins look so delicious! I usually can't resist a muffin, unless a cheese danish is present, then that's always the first choice. We always get to the 50's PTC so my mom can get a milkshake. They are the absolute best we've ever had! We weren't quite in the mood for the antics this last trip, so we sat at the bar, but it is definitely a fun show.

It sure was delish Queen! :thumbsup2 I could eat another one right about now!

I don't get why they do that as if you didn't want to be involved in the antics you would just eat elsewhere. I was looking forward to them and even warned Zaheer about what was to come. We were both disappointed afterwards. I think this is one restaurant where you need to go with a teenager/child. I noticed that families got a lot more attention compared to couples :confused3 Lol, I say the same...we want the fun!!!

At least I can say I tried it here and would only return if I was part of a big group or had my little sister with me. I can imagine being in a big group means you can make your own entertainment and have fun no matter where you dine. Lol, it's funny how each DISer has different opinions on the same food and dining places. I'm guessing until you try a restaurant you are never going to know how you feel about it. I'm looking forward to reading your review of 50s PTC!

That cupcake sure was AMAZING! Although I was disappointed the chocolate peanut butter finger cake was not available it would have meant I missed out on this one. So maybe it was a silver lining...

Lol, I'll let Zaheer know he isn't the only one with his thinking. I just felt it was a bit heavy for that time in the morning. Though saying that I was having Mickey Waffles!

Aaw thanks Chaitali - I have started applying for positions again so will let you know if I get lucky :goodvibes

They certainly were delicious! We were so happy to get to taste them. Lol if there's a yummy dessert in sight than I am normally all over it! Cheese danish...I like the sound of that as well!

I have to agree that the milkshake was great and I can totally get why your mum would go to 50s PTC just for this. I have seen many reviews of the bar and may have to go for a drink on a future trip.

Ooooh....I'm drooling over that cupcake right now. :worship:

We cancelled our 50's Prime Time (as you'll see when I get to that part of my dining reviews), but your meal looks really good. We've never done Chef's; my best friend, Nicki, didn't care for the dinner but swears by the lunch.

It sure looks great, doesn't it Kathy? ;) I drool over it every time I see it as well and can't wait to get my hands on one again!

Ooh looking forward to seeing why you cancelled 50s Prime Time and what you replace it with. We liked Chef's but not sure if I would wholeheartedly recommend it. Think it is worth one visit.

Lol we were the opposite - didn't care much for lunch but had to make sure we had our dinner reservations!

That red velvet cupcake sure does look yummy!

I'm sorry 50's PTC ws a disappointment. I have been there multiple times and it does depend on who you end up getting as your server that I think makes or breaks the experience.

I must stop reading this DR while hungry for a snack! I want a cupcake from SR!!! (insert whiney voice):rotfl:

Kadence wants a mickey waffle as well, she says we could get on a plane and go get one and be back tomorrow! I like how she thinks!:thumbsup2

I'm bummed I didn't get a chance to try the Chocolate Peanut Butter cupcake from Starring Rolls (especially since the one at Karamell-Kuche was a disappointment)... but I also loved their Red Velvet cupcake! Soooo good!

Aww, sorry your experience at 50sPTC wasn't what you hoped for. Glad you enjoyed the food, though... it really is good. Your desserts look yummy!

I definitely missed going to Starring Rolls this trip for yummy cupcakes! We ended up spending 3 hours total at DHS this trip thinking that we will return for 2nd day but didn't happen. We are definitely spending more time next trip and I'm going to make an effort going to Starring Rolls.

I agree that 50's Prime Time is probably better with a larger group or kids - we went with a big group of people once and it was hilarious! Still, I think your server should have done more to help you have the full experience - that's kind of the point of the place!

Oooohhh those Mickey Waffles!!!!

:scared1: No peanut butter cupcake??? That is unheard of!!!!

Sorry your experience at 50s wasn't very prime! :sad2: It's a hit and miss sort of thing I guess!
