Two first timers take on free dining...was it a success? 13-27 Sept 2011- Complete...

Your steak at Kona looks so good! I had such a wonderful breakfast at Kona that I'd love to try dinner there as well. I guess that just means I'll have to plan another trip next year, right? ;)

Awesome reviews so far! I have to say I think I'm glad we ended our trip at CG. While we had great service at just about every restaurant we ate at, the service there far and away exceeded all others (including V&A... believe it or not...)

I said this already on your TR, but I'll say it here too: YAY Jalapeno Pretzels!:rotfl:

All caught up! I love your review of CG and CCH. They are my favorites. We skipped CG this trip so I'm hoping to get back there sometime next one.

That steak sure was very good! We both agreed it was the better meal out of the two - that happened a lot on this trip! Zaheer would order something but than taste my meal and enjoy it a lot more. Being on these boards sure meant I ended up with the better deal! ;)

I'd love to go to Kona for breakfast so looks like we both have a reason to plan another trip :thumbsup2

Thanks Jen! CG is soo wonderful - I would recommend it and like someone said before everyone should try it at least once. I would return here in a heartbeat but should probably try some other meals first. We were so spoiled on our first meal and wish I had booked this again as our last meal. I can't believe it even exceeded V&A for you guys.

Jalapeno Pretzels = :cloud9: :cloud9: They are soo yummy!!! :rotfl2:

Thanks for catching up! :goodvibes I have to agree in that CG and CHH are two of my favourite dining places. I hope you get to go back to CG and would love to go back there myself!

We started today with breakfast at Pop. We had a late start compared to other mornings as were planning on doing EMHs later and noticed the difference at Everything Pop. It was heaving and hard to find an empty table!

Luckily we managed to find one. We had the cheese omelette with breakfast potatoes. The cheese omelette was nice but had a bit too much cheese on for my liking. It got a bit sickly towards the end. We didn't care too much for the breakfast potatoes but had them anyway as needed the fuel to keep going! I also got a chocolate croissant which was very yummy and tasted delish with my morning coffee.

For our lunch we went to Sunshine Seasons. Remember when writing about CHH I said there was another CS place which rated just as highly - well this is it. We loved this place and think it is great! We got the roasted beets and goats cheese salad which was nice but I didn't like the dressing. I'm not a fan of vinegar and this had a strong kick of it for me. However, Zaheer really enjoyed it and finished the salad.

We got a large sprite to drink (Zaheer's choice) and then came dessert in the form of a Strawberry Shortcake!!! OMG, this was divine!!! We both fell in love with this - it was soft and had plenty of strawberries and cream. My mouth is watering thinking about this treat - think it comes second after the chocolate valrhona cake. I wanted to get another one straight away but Zaheer mentioned to wait as we would be back again and there were other snacks we wanted to try. You can tell Zaheer is the sensible one out of the two of us whereas I just rush into things and regret it later! :lmao:

Our evening meal took us to France in Epcot! Our ADR was for 7.30pm but we didn't even get to the bus stop until 7.25pm! Luckily even though we were late we were still able to be seated. We were discussing alternative options on the bus just in case we wouldn't be able to eat at Les Chefs de France. I am so pleased that we still got seated here. We had to wait for a short time but that was fine with us.

Our server was Maria tonight and she was very good. We both decided to order the prix fixe 3 courses menu - would this decision come back to bite us?

Zaheer started with the Salade au blue but without the bacon. He really enjoyed this and said it was very nice and filling - I reminded him he still had another two courses to work his way through!

I ordered the Bisque de Homard (lobster soup) and loved this! I ate it with the baguette we were given and this was a meal within itself!

We asked to speak with the chef and he informed us that he had some halal chicken we could have. We both ordered the Demi poulet fermier roti, pommes rissolees et tomate grillee - Half of an all-natural roasted chicken, rissole potatoes and grilled tomato. This was nice but a bit too plain for our tastes - we would have liked some extra spice to this meal. It was also very filling! I think if I remember correctly neither one of us finished the whole meal.

During our meal Illuminations started and we enjoyed watching this from inside the restaurant - it was amazing!

For dessert we both had the Profiteroles au chocolat - Puff choux with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. Again this was nice but we were too full. This dessert also wasn't up to par with some of the others we had tasted.

Review of meals:

Everything Pop - B. The omelette had too much cheese for our liking and we didn't care too much for the breakfast potatoes. However, the chocolate croissant was a yummy treat!
Sunshine Seasons - A. Although I didn't like the dressing of the salad the strawberry shortcake more than makes up for this misgiving.

Les Chefs de France:

Service - A
Food - B. The chicken was a bit plain and the desserts were okay but we had experienced better.
Atmosphere - A+. Loved watching Illuminations!
Would we return? Yes, but probably for lunch so we could see Remy.

In our plans we also had a stop to Karamelle Kuche scheduled for today but never made it. I will be reviewing this place later on in the report.

I'm glad you made it to your dinner at Epcot! That sounds like it could have been stressful. I'm sorry the dinner wasn't the best but it sounds like your Epcot lunch made up for it. And I can't wait to hear about the caramel place :) I loved it. Choosing what to get from there may have been one of the most difficult choices I made on our trip.

I haven't been able to be on the boards as much because I got a new job. Yay, new job! But boo for less planning time.

Ohh they were kinda nasty weren't they? Johnny hated them, lol. I didn't care for them either.

I loved Sunshine Seasons! I ate there twice and the first time I got the strawberry shortcake too. I agree with you 100% -- absolutely divine!

We ate there too! MIL had the lobster bisque too and she loved it. I also had the chicken, I thought it was ok. I had the profiteroles too, thought the same as you -- pretty good, but I have had better.

Great reviews! I'm loving this all food all the time thing. :goodvibes

We will have to check out Sunshine on our next trip (I'm only making dinner ADRs, so we have less time "rushing" around during the day...) it looks pretty yummy and I keep hearing good things!

CdF looks yummy...you're right, I could totally make a meal of just the lobster bisque!:cloud9:

Just joining in! WPE looks so good! We always head to EOS when we eat at DTD but we may have to give it a try next time - I've heard so many good things about it! The coconut almond chicken sounds great to me, I'm not a huge steak person. I love tropical flavors so most of the dishes at restaurants at the Poly would appeal to me ;) I also loved the Strawberry Shortcake at SS!

We love Sunshine Seasons!:lovestruc

The variety of food you can get there is awesome! I had the roasted beet salad last time I went and I really enjoyed watching it being made in front of me - I thought it was all fresh and tasty :)

Enjoying reading your reviews

Oh my making it to that dinner was eventful! We were running like anything and I was sweating by the time we reached France!

The dinner was okay (but just not up to par with some of the others we had during our trip) but you are right in that our lunch more than made up for it! We loved Sunshine Seasons! :cloud9:

I'm looking forward to sharing our review of Karamelle Kuche and can understand why you would have a difficult time choosing from this place!

:woohoo: on the new job!! Congrats!! Boo on the DIS time being cut! I'm still looking for a job and know once I find one will probably not be able to come on these boards as much either :sad2:

Ohh they were kinda nasty weren't they? Johnny hated them, lol. I didn't care for them either.

Yeah they weren't the best! Surprisingly we never ordered them again

I loved Sunshine Seasons! I ate there twice and the first time I got the strawberry shortcake too. I agree with you 100% -- absolutely divine!

Without giving too much away we returned later on in the trip and I'll let you guess what we had for dessert! :lmao:

We ate there too! MIL had the lobster bisque too and she loved it. I also had the chicken, I thought it was ok. I had the profiteroles too, thought the same as you -- pretty good, but I have had better.

That lobster bisque was great! I would happily have that again. I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking that of the prefiteroles.

Great reviews! I'm loving this all food all the time thing. :goodvibes

Thanks! I'm loving talking about food all the time as well though I feel hungry every time I write a review!

We will have to check out Sunshine on our next trip (I'm only making dinner ADRs, so we have less time "rushing" around during the day...) it looks pretty yummy and I keep hearing good things!

Sunshine Seasons is great for a CS place and I hope you get to try it on your next trip.

Yes, the lobster bisque was great and I would love to be able to get that as a snack with some bread right about now! :cloud9:

:welcome: and thanks for joining! We tried EoS later on in the trip and they are both great CS places! I would have a hard time choosing between the both of them :rolleyes1

Zaheer liked the coconut almond chicken but enjoyed my main more - I guess we are both steak people ;)

Mmm thinking of that Strawberry Shortcake is bringing back memories!

We love Sunshine Seasons!:lovestruc

I think we love it now as well! :thumbsup2

We loved the choices and yes the salad was fresh and tasty - just had a bit too much dressing for my liking.

Thanks Shari! I hope you continue to enjoy them :goodvibes

Mmm that Salad at Sunshine Seasons sounds really good. I've only had breakfast at Sunshine Seasons, so it's on my ever growing list of places I need to try or return to for a different meal!

Okay, I think that the strawberry shortcake from Sunshine Seasons would make anything better. :rotfl:

I agree that the profiteroles from Les Chefs de France are a little disappointing. They sound so tasty, but when you eat them it's meh. :confused3

Ooooo, that strawberry shortcake looks good!

Glad you enjoyed your dinner at Chefs! It was a LOT of food, though, wasn't it? Oh my goodness. And yay for getting to see IllumiNations from the restaurant! I figured that place wouldn't have a great view.

Great updates as always :goodvibes

I'm glad you enjoyed your dinner in 'France'

Boy does that Strawberry Shortcake at Sunshine Seasons look good :cloud9:

It sure was good. We never had breakfast at Sunshine Seasons so may have to do that on a future trip, however can definitely recommend lunch here! Hope you get to try it one day.

I agree - it sure would! Lol any sweet treat or chocolate would make everything better for me! :lmao:

They were disappointing and we wish we had ordered another dessert instead of ordering two lots of profiteroles. It's one of those things that sound better on paper than in reality!

It sure was good! Every time I think about it I wish I had one to hand right about now! I'm so happy we got to try this yummy treat and would return to Sunshine Seasons for this alone.

It sure was a LOT of food - think it was one of those places where I needed to have my brother with me. He tends to be able to eat anything! :rotfl2: Oh it was an amazing view of Illuminations. We hadn't seen it at all yet so loved watching it from the restaurant. We returned later to watch the show from France and had a great view again.

Great updates as always :goodvibes

I'm glad you enjoyed your dinner in 'France'

Boy does that Strawberry Shortcake at Sunshine Seasons look good :cloud9:

Thanks Linda! :goodvibes

Our dinner at France was enjoyable and mmm just thinking about the Strawberry Shortcake is making my mouth water! :rotfl2:

Strawberry Shortcake from Sunshine Seasons is another thing that we skipped this year. I would so go back to Sunshine Seasons just for the cake!!!

I also want to to Les Chef's next trip!

Wheww! Now I'm totally caught up on all your reports. I love that beet salad, but I'm a dressing hog! Yum Yum Yum on all those bakery treats! There are so many places we still haven't gotten to eat at, which just means more excuses for more trips!
