Two Different Resorts On One Package: Is it possible?

Going to WDW first 2 weeks in December 2018. We would like to stay for 9 nights. 7 of those nights will for sure be in a value or moderate resort depending on the deals we are able to get. But for the other 2 nights, we want to "splurge" on a deluxe resort.

My question is if I book all 9 nights with a cheaper resort in the package, can I then call and have two of those nights changed to be at a deluxe resort?

Or do I have to book only 7 nights at the value/moderate resort with our package and then book a 2-night room only stay at the deluxe?

We plan on having a meal package and park hopper tickets added to the vacation package and it would be nice to have access to them for the whole trip and not have to split things up. But we will do it the split way if we have to.

Also, what month should we book by in order to make sure we have decent availability for our resort stays?

Thank you in advance for your experiences and advice! :)

No, each resort stay is its own reservation.

If you want the dining plan on the second part you can call and have them make it a ticketless package, though. Just buy the full ticket with the first package.

Yes, exactly this. As the PP's have said, you can't book one package with two resorts included. Based on what you've described, you want to book the following:

1) 7 night stay at the value or mod with length of stay tickets (to include park visits when you switch resorts) and a dining package
2) 2 night deluxe stay with dining (called a "ticketless package" which you'll need to call in)

If you know you are going, you can book now to get the best availability. Then, just watch these boards to see when discounts are released and see if you can either modify your existing reservation or change resorts or room categories to take advantage of a discount.
