So we've changed plans and have booked a flight down for our cruise. We decided to extend our vacation and stay in Florida until Sunday morning. We considered doing WDW but good grief over $1000 just for park tickets for two days is crazy! Is there a beach nearby that's worth spending some time on? Any other fun things for the kids in the Orlando area? I'm at a loss...and broken hearted...:( even a day or two at MK and Epcot would have been the perfect end to our already awesome Disney cruise! TIA!

My first thought was Kennedy Space Center. Followed by a day (or both days) at a water park.

Here's another thought, just hang out at your resort. It's a vacation, right? Maybe a day at Downtown Disney.

We may just do that. We are coming down to get on the Mickey Boat on the 2nd then when we get back I'm thinking we may stay in a hotel on the beach in Cocoa Beach. Maybe spend one day at KSC and then the next just between the hotel and ocean ;)

I agree, Kennedy Space Center is worth a visit. And we really like Cocoa Beach. A stay at a Disney resort with a water park and sometime in Downtown Disney can extend the Disney part of your vacation. We did 2 days at Universal post cruise one year and that was a blast, still a bit pricey though. We haven't been to Gatorland but I have heard some pretty decent reviews. It is on our list of things to try if we ever have an open day in Orlando.

Were doing the exact same thing our next cruise and didn't want to buy park tickets. Especially when we were recently at WDW. We're still staying on site at WDW. We booked spirit of Aloha because we always wanted to do that. And the Bon voyage breakfast. And plan to go to the outlet mall. And Disney springs. And the Boardwalk. If we have time we might play miniature golf as we've always wanted to do that. There's so much to do even without going to a park.

I'd love to stay on property but at this late in the game there isn't anything under $400 a night! I may get the hubs to stop by the outlet store and let the kids spend their souvenir money there ;) I've always wanted to go.

Legoland, Bok Tower Gardens aren't terribly far away. Though the hurricane Irma might have caused a little issue at the gardens. Also, lots of beaches up and down the coast, Vero, new Smyrna, Daytona. If you want a real adventure take a few hours to drive up to St. Augustine.

There is so much to do in WDW outside of the theme parks! There is Disney Springs, the Waterparks (way less expensive than the theme parks, and you can also look for Aquatica, which is usually less expensive that the Disney Waterpark and just as fun!), the Mini-Golfs, you can visit and eat in the different resorts or on the Boardwalk!

Aren't you going in January? Value rooms are around 111$/night around this time and some moderate resorts are under 200$/night.

Not if it's over Marathon Weekend or MLK weekend.

My ticker is wrong!! lol. I haven't paid attention to it since our last WDW trip. We actually are cruising on October 2nd through the 6th and are just adding a few days to our stay afterwards.

Ah. Colombus day. I see.

I would call every single day to see if they can find availability for a value. At some point someone is going to cancel. A normal guestroom at a value won't cost you 400$ up (suites at AOA are super expensive).

What about a Universal hotel like Cabana Bay or Sapphire Falls. They may have availability.

I saw a lot of recommendations for Kennedy Space Center. How is that for relatively small children? I'm in the same boat as the OP, but only have one day after the cruise. We have two 5 year-olds and an 8 year-old. The 8 year-old would probably enjoy the space center since she really likes science. Is the Space Center interesting enough for two 5 year-olds or would they get bored easily?

I think it seems like a snooze fest to be honest, especially for the astronomical price. But, I realize I'm probably in the minority lol

We did 2 days at Universal after our cruise. I know, I know, it's the competition but our daughter wanted to see and do all of the Harry Potter stuff. I'll admit that part of the park was neat but also the most crowded. The Hogwarts Express was kinda neat and the rides were cool, too. We wanted to do Kennedy Space center after we got off of the boat but I was quite put off by them charging $50 per person to get into the place. Years ago it was free.
