Two Couples? Room Type?

We are taking our brother in law and sister in law with us on vaca using points in Jan. for a weekend. (Leaving the kids behind.....) I am confused as to what room to book. Right now we have studio, but then my husband invited them.... SHould I book them their own studio (Less points) or get a one or two bedroom. So confused. We are currently booked at BWV and all their two bedrooms are lock offs (I think). Have always stayed in dedicated 2 bedrooms, would a lock off just feel like adjoining rooms like at a hotel.

There's pros and cons of 2 studios vs 2 BR. One big advantage of the 2 studios is if your guests have to cancel, it is much easier to cancel that room. On the other hand, a 2BR is so much more comfortable and fun to have.

We did a big family thing this summer and had a 2BR lockoff. It was just fine. The door to the 2nd bedroom was in the corner and folks moved back and forth just like it was another bedroom.

I would go with the two studios, probably cheaper than the two bedroom and you don't really need that much room. If they (and you) don't mind staying in the living room a 1 bedroom would work and you get a full kitchen.

2 Bedrooms are pretty expensive point wise, although you gain common areas like the living room, kitchen and washer and dryer.

Two studios would be cheaper, but there would be no common area to hang out unless you crashed in one of each other's rooms.

My order of preference would 2BR (any resort), Treehouse (SSR), or two studios (any resort). As others have indicated, two studios offers each couple sufficient privacy but lacks the "common space" for gathering and just hanging out.

We have done it both ways and prefer 2 studios. We feel we get enough "hanging out" time during the day in the parks and at meals. We like our privacy.

We get 2 studios when the MIL and my parents go...everyone gets their own space, you can always put an extra chair out on the balcony. I would be floored if someone gave me a studio in WDW---MIL loves it and we love spoiling her. My Mom and Dad go next year I think if I were for a week, I would get a 2 br for more common space.

I would eliminate the one-bedroom option. Two couples don't go into one bathroom, and if I invite someone to share a trip with me, I don't want them sleeping on the couch!

Personally, I would probably go with two studios just because of the possibility of the other couple bailing out of the trip when they start doing the LODGING FREE + (airfare + park tickets + food + trinkets ) math.

If you could get it, and especially if you will have a rental car, a Treehouse Villa would be fewer points than a 2 BR at BWV and an awesome first DVC stay.

Are your BIL/SIL also your friends?

We like to vacation with our friends in a 2 BR. We each have our own space but can share coffee, snacks, drinks ect together in the common area.

However, other than my immediate family, I don't book 2 BR's for guests. We would be in a 1 BR with the space to entertain and any family would be in their own studio.

The 2 BR is marginally more expensive than 2 studios but you get the full kitchen and larger bath with the master BR. If you have the points, I'd let the amount of time and potential kitchen use determine your best option. You can get a lockoff 2 BR that will satisfy essentially the same privacy issues as the 2 studios will. Ultimately it seems to me to be person choice and risk of them canceling.

We have a DVC rule .. every couple/family gets their own room/bath .. common areas are not to be used for sleeping.

We like the 2-bedroom as it provides privacy for each couple as well as the common area to hang out together, breakfast, etc.

I would not consider the 1-bedroom option. you will have to share the bath and someone will have to sleep in the living room. Although the sleepers have been upgraded over the years ...a sleeper is still a sleeper and not very comfortable for adults.

If point cost is an issue, then my advice is not worth much but we always book separate 1 bedrooms when we bring another couple. We spend a lot of time touring with guests so we like to be comfortable and have privacy during "down time" and we want our guests to have the same.

When we travel with another couple, (other than our DS's) my DH prefers it when I get 2 studios rather than a 2 bedroom.

We are doing the same thing next Oct. I have decided to book two studios....just in case something happens and the situation changes. If the husbands decide not to go, the other wife and I can just go with one studio. Or if the other couple backs out, I can just cancel the second studio.
We won't be doing much eating in the villa itself, so the two bedroom was almost too much room for us.

We went with another couple for one night in August and we got a one bedroom at Kidani so that we could have two bathrooms. It was cheaper on points than a two bedroom or two studios. We each had our own sleeping areas, granted they slept on the couch in the living room, but we each had our own bathrooms and for just one or two nights it was doable. If it was a week long trip I'd go with either a two bedroom or two studios.

THanks for everyone's responses! We decided to book a two bedroom at the Beach Club Villas. We had the extra points to spend and my husband really wants to show his brother the wonderfulness of DVC. I was originally going to book the 2 bedroom at BWV but I wanted a dedicated 2 bedroom as opposed to a lockoff. I have also been curious about the pool since I have read so much about it on the DIS. I just hope I don't feel too guilty about leaving the kids at home once I get to SAB!! Being from NY, it will be nice to stay somewhere "beachy" in the middle of winter. We are also excited about staying at an Epcot resort b/c we usually stay near the MK with the kiddies!
