I've read that a money saving tip at Counter Service Restaurants would be to order a double hamburger with an extra bun. Sounds like a great idea! Is Disney cool with this or is it like a bootleg bun?:3dglasses

We did it once and the cashier didn't bat an eye. Actually, the cashier couldn't figure out how to charge us the extra money for the bun and just gave it to us.

Last time we did this they actually had a key on the cash register and the receipt said "extra bun". They don't mind!

yup, its a great idea and I never once had a problem or a weird look shot my way! Its a great way to save credits and enjoy a 2 TS meal, IMO.

Other two bun ideas:

Cheese fries/extra bun for toasted cheese
Chili dog/extra bun for sloppy joe
Taco salad/extra tortilla for tacos
Dole whip/extra bun for pineapple bread

Alternatives to the two burgers/two buns idea:

1. Scoop loose change from the Disney fountains
2. Look for half eaten food left over from other patrons
3. Load up on condiments and onions/lettuce at the fixin’s bar
4. Eat half your food and then claim there was a hair in your fries to get freebies

I've seen people look interested in "leftovers"

I'm sure this happens all the time

:)

I did it for the first time this year. Didn't think I would ever do it but the cashier just charged us .75 extra. We had only 3 CS credits left and we split them with the 5 of us. Worked out perfect. Tons of food and the drinks are so large the kids never finish them so DH and I shared one with them.

I personally cannot consume a double cheeseburger, no matter how hungry I am. :crazy2: If I was just ordering for myself, I'd order a single. However, if I had a kid with me at Pecos Bill's, and the only kid's choices on the menu are sloppy joe or chilled chicken -- absolutely I'd order a double burger and extra bun. Or I'd order it for two little kids who wanted burgers but couldn't each eat a large adult meal, and split the CS meal for them (and no, I would not use a child's CS credit to order an adult meal, I'd count it toward our total of adult credits). A single bun is an item you can purchase, and so many people do it that they've programmed the price into their registers and actually have a key on the register for it. I wouldn't worry about it :)

I'm sorry--nothing substantive to add--but you had me at bootleg buns. :rotfl:

Then I had kept on reading down to pineapple bread and I about woke up the whole house. :rotfl2:

Sadly, I am guilty of coveting other tables leftovers. And being a vegetarian married to a low-carb guy, I have visited the condiment bar to make a "sandwich" out of his unused top bun (the part that was protected from the meat by the slice of cheese). Sigh. Thank goodness for free dining.

Maybe OT, but if you want a "good" thread about how to save money while eating at Disney, read THIS

Thanks, that was good. Of course, if you only want soup, ask for a cup of hot water and put some ketchup in it to make some tomatoe soup.

If I can't eat a double cheeseburger, then I don't get a double cheeseburger, hopefully folks know that they do make single cheeseburgers too.

:lmao: That is hysterical!! :lmao:

If I remember correctly, the cheeseburgers come with a mountain of fries, and a river of soft drink. I would (& will) split it w/ an extra bun, esp since we also get dessert. And if its a place that offers cole slaw as a side (extra cost, I know), even better, thats a fave of mine popcorn::

Last year, when we went with my BIL (who had paid for all the extras on his package, including DDP) decided he would save a couple of bucks by packing frozen cartons of milk in his suitcase with his clothes. Needless to say, they didn't do too well on the flight from Portland to Orlando. :rotfl2:

His wife spent the entire next day doing laundry. With the cost of the washing machines and dryer, I think he probably didn't save any money either. :teacher:

DS8 likes his beef. As there is not many choices at CS kid's meals, I will be getting the double burgers w/ extra bun to share w/ him. We will end up w/ extra CS kid credits for bkfast use. A happy child makes for a pleasant vacation.

We loved Peco Bills last year, it was our top CS meal. But I agree the sloppy joe sucks for a kids meal. My kids wont eat sloppy joes so I will have to pay oop for a regular meal for my 9 year old. The little one will share with me..
