Can 8 people really stay in a 2 bedroom villa. Has anyone ever done it? I see there are gand villas but the only place we could afford that is at Old Key West. Why is OKW so much less does anyone know????

First are you renting points from a DVC member or paying cash??? For the cash price you could probably rent points for a GV from a DVC member.

That being said: the bedding set up is a master bdrm with a king, a living room queen pullout couch, a second bedroom with either 2 queen bds or a queen bed and a queen couch...

There is quite a bit of room but depends on if all are couples or what...

There are more villas available at OKW (but the are the largest of all the villas sq.foot wise) Maybe the amount of villas available dictates the lower price...

We'll see how the 2 bedroom works this Oct with 8. My family is going and my 12 yr old is the only scrawny one in the bunch. I'm hoping it won't be a problem. I haven't slept in the same space with my sister in 16 years :earseek: . This is going to be interesting. We'd love to be able to save up enough points and get one of the grand villas some day. Oh to dream. ::MickeyMo

I hope you are all friends, because they are tight quarters for 8 people. But, at least you are within the guidelines.

Are the 8 people all adults? If so, it might be tight.
I have stayed at BWV in a 2 bedroom with 8 people, but 4 of them were kids. With 2 adults in the master bedroom, 2 kids on the pull out couch, and 2 kids, 2 adults in the second bedroom. It wasn't bad at all.

We will be at the BCV for 5 nights beginning June 12th--our first time home! We have 5 boys (13 and under and 3 adults). Kids don't mind sleeping on pull outs--they would even sleep on the floor.
I have read before here that the reason OKW is less points is due to the age of the resort.

I was looking in to renting points, we have never done that and I am still not sure about it. We are currently planning on Port Orleans--I think, but once I started to read about renting points and looked in to it, it looked like a good deal. Our budget would allow a grand villa at OKW or a 2bedvilla at BCV. I think the 2 bed would be a little tight, the other downfall is that if we rent points we can't get the dinning plan and that was our origional plan POR 3rooms and dinning plan

Well the villas have a full kitchen available. We pretty much always use it for breakfast before we head out to the parks. Saves us a ton of money. I know lots of people don't like to cook while on vacation but it you pick a meal or two...boy can you save lots of money...

Your chances of getting a GV at OKW for October 2005 are decreasing by the day as home resort members were able to book these accommodations in November 2004 and non-home resort members were able to book in March 2005.

You might want to have a DVC member check into the availability of GV's before proceeding with further planning along that route.

2BRs and GVs at OKW are both rather spacious.

Thanks Neil I was wondering about that too. We discussed it further last night and decided to stay with our origional plan. Since we have never rented points before it seemed a little overwhelming when we had a large group going. We thought we might try it on our own for a family vacation in the next year or so. Thanks again for the info

It is my understanding that the points are so low on OKW because disney goofed up so to speak, as OKW was their first DVC resort and they underestimated the popularity of DVC. They adjusted the point values on subsequent DVC resorts. They couldn't undo what they had already put in place though I am sure they would like to. Im sure okw owners are tickled to no end at the discrepency. Perhaps they made the points so low to lure people in initially and then once word of mouth spread and DVC became popular they went up on the points needed to reserve accomidations.

A two bedroom can get crowded with 8 people. We stuffed 5 adults and 6 kids in one and we got pretty cramped, but had a blast. All depends on how well you get along.

I do not think you must go from a 2 BR to a GV. We always get an extra studio and it does not cost much extra. The price jump to the GV is horrendous at most resorts. You can get 2 - 2BD for the same price. I have never stayed in a GV since I like the 2 BD/studio arrangement when we take guests - it gives us a little more space to get some separation.
