We took a bump on an oversold flight and I have two vouchers - each for $325 - to be used within a year from this past weekend.

I am toying with the idea of putting one in each of my daughter's stockings Christmas morning - DD16 who was with me has no idea we got free tickets and DD21 hasn't thought to ask about it yet - and letting them plan a trip. They can either go to New York for a weekend sometime this summer by
themselves (which they would LOVE) or they could plan a family trip for the three of us sometime this summer, after DD21 finds out about which job she will have and what her time for vacation - if any - is like.

Would you insist on going on the trip? I think it would be so much fun for them to plan and go alone and I don't know how often if ever they would get the chance to do it, because DD21 is graduating from college and will be launching (I hope!) an independent life most likely out of our hometown.

OTOH, I would be a little bit envious!!! But I don't always like to do the big shop til you drop thing so it would be a chance to let them get it out of their system.

Maybe they could use one of the vouchers for themselves and I could use the other for something I'd like to do when they are in school!! Hmm, there's a thought...

What airline?

I work for a major airline, and I have gotten vouchers for others... you can usually, almost always only use them... meaning, if YOU were the ticketed pax who took the voucher, only YOU can use it.

Most vouchers go unused for this reason... :sad2:

US Airways - they told me I could transfer the voucher so I could transfer the one in my name to my older daughter and my younger daughter has one in her own name.

I was also told I could buy two tickets with one voucher if the cost of the two tickets was less than or equal to the $325 value of one of the vouchers, but the information I have clearly says I can't do that.

I think it's a great idea! :thumbsup2

They are old enough to go alone and I think it would be a great experience for the two of them! I would also be envious (if it were my DDs going without me), but think of the memories they will have. :goodvibes

Plus, planning the trip together would be lots of fun for them too!

Even though the tickets were "free" for you (not really - you bought them with time and inconvenience) just the gift of your permission to fly somewhere together would be a very cool present!

Thanks for the support - I think I am going to do it!!! They have plenty of time to decide where they want to stay and what show they want to see - and I will encourage them to save up some babysitting money for shopping. I'll spring for hotel, flight and a Broadway show and they can choose the other things they want to do. I think that will be a fun gift and a complete surprise!

Vouchers given for oversold flights are almost universally transferable. The person who revieves it usually has to book the flight but can edorse it to anybody.

I think giving them to your DD's to use on a trip is fantastic!!!

As a Mom you want to spend the time with your girls, but giving them a gift of being together as sisters as the commercial says is priceless!

I think this will be the best gift they´ll EVER recieve. Honestly. Wow, what a great mom you are. I travelled a lot when I was a kid with my parents and siblings and those trips were great. But I LOVED travelling as a young adult alone with my siblings. Such quality time and memories that will last a lifetime. You rock!!!

I think it's a WONDERFUL idea!!! Your dd's will love it.

Now, here's the head's up: A friend of mine was recently telling me about using some USAir vouchers, and could only get some pretty lousy flights. So I'd encourage them to book as early as possible. I think they're sort of like the frequent flyer rewards where there are limits on availability. (But I could be wrong!)
