Okay...this is weird! What has your experience been with this?

I can't get ADRs for 7 at Yak & Yeti, but I can get a table for 2 and a table for 5. I called and asked about these reservations and why I couldn't get just one ADR and was given an answer that made no sense to me.

At any rate, I made the ADRs for 2/5 and then was told that my 15.5 year olds couldn't sit at the table by themselves.

What that what? What is that all about??? Is this a policy? I haven't seen it written anywhere but, if it is and you know where it is, can you point me to it?

I could certainly understand a younger child, even a 14 year old, but these girls are almost 16 and able to drive. They frequently eat at restaurants by themselves. Thoughts?

Keep your ADRs and show up. Once there they may seat you as a 7 anyway. Don't sweat what you were just told. The restaurant will treat you as a customer when you arrive and work to take care of your group.

As for the official Disney "policy"...well, you're not going to find one that necessarily applies to Yak & Yeti because it is not actually a Disney-owned restaurant and if they want that kind of policy, they can have it. We've eaten there several times on the Disney Dining Plan and have noted Yak & Yeti do several things different than Disney-ownded restaurants. For example, coffee was NOT an allowed beverage on the dining plan (sodas or tap water were only allowed beverage on the dining plan when we went in January 2011.) And refills on sodas were at our expense, not covered on the dining plan. It's not that way at the official Disney-owned restaurants.

did they actually note the girls' age on the reservation...or just tell you that when booking? If the girls actually act (and look) older than they are, I'd just have them waltz in and check in as if they should. Chances are they won't get "carded" or anything like that anyway. And they may be able to seat you all together once you're there, too. It's possible.

We were there last month in mid March and went to Yak and Yeti and refills were free on the dining plan. Actually they were really good with refills.

To the OP, I think they'll seat you together once you get there. I had reservations, but had call checked the morning of and days before to get an earlier lunch, but they were all booked up. Once we got there most of the people they were taking in were all walkups

I'm pretty sure it won't be a problem. Disney is very reasonable with the age that the consider kids ready to be independent. They allow then at 12 I think in the water park. If they are free at 12 there I don't know why 15 couldn't eat. There have also been multiple threads with people complaining because in situations like yours young kids (like 10) were seated by themselves. So if they were allowed I don't know why 15 wouldnt be!

If they can charge them the adult price for the meal and they are mature ladies that won't disturb other's dining experience then, I would worry about it. I looked older at 15 than I did at 20. I'm certain that it won't be brought up again if you don't bring it up. : )

The other day our dear fellow Dis-er Robo made a comment that "Nothing is always the same at Disney"(think I got that right). Among the weak links in the Disney orgainization is communication. The people taking ADRs don't necessarily have the same info as the people "on the ground" in the parks/restaurants. Even the people within those sub-categories don't always agree. Then there are the "rogue" thinkers who just might make a decision one way or the other because they want to. Get whatever ADRs you can get, and when you show up, put whomever you want at the second table. As long as they don't start a food fight and the bill gets paid, I don't think you'll have a problem.:earsboy:

I would just go with it. Have them check in and I doubt they are going to give them any hassle it's not like they will have ID's on them.

I saw a little boy around 8-9 eating alone at the Yacht Club/Captains Quarters when I was there for lunch once- so I doubt it is a Disney policy.

Did you call the Dining line for your ADRs? If that's the case you're not even speaking to someone at the restaurant, and the CMs on the phone are often wrong. I'm not saying this is 100% the case, and you're party very well could be split up but I'd be very surprised if they gave you trouble about the kids sitting together.

I wouldn't think it was an official Disney policy. Different restaurants I know, but on two occassions (Crystal Palace and Boma) we seated all the kids on one table and the adults on another. The eldest on the kids table was 11 and the youngest was 3.

Maybe Yak & Yeti has only a few large tables, which have been "booked" for your times? Most places have many more tables for 5 (which could fit 6 but probably not 7), and tables for 2, than much larger tables. And depending on the restaurant configuration, it may nodt be easy to move smaller tables around to create a larger one.

I don't think that's true, since I had some meals as a party of 1 when I was 15 and 16.

Exactly. When I was 15, my friend and I went to Epcot and ate at Le Cellier. No one even batted an eye, and we were treated just as well as when we went out with my mom to other restaurants.

IF this is a policy, I'd imagine it's only at Y&Y, and not at Disney-owned restaurants.

Thanks, y'all. I've decided to keep the 2/5 split and plan on my girls sitting together. If it's a huge deal, MIL and FIL can sit at that table or, better yet, DH and I can get a break from the kids. :) I'd really rather be split up at Y&Y than sit all together at Tusker House.

A couple of my ADRs said that we may be seated at separate tables. My plan for if this happened was to seat the four adults together and have the kids at a separate table nearby. They will be eight and two five year olds. I really don't see the big deal if there is a responsible adult in sight!

I really think you need not do that. A responsible adult should be with your children at all times. There is no way you can watch them the whole time if you are not sitting with them. I can't even imagine leaving an 8 year old as the oldest at a table. Who is going to help the 5 year olds with their meal? :confused3

1. I don't have kids, but I know the kids and at almost 6/9 during the trip, I think they will be able to feed themselves.

2. I kind of doubt they would seat them out of sight. I would think that if they HAD to separate us they would probably seat us in two tables close to each other.

3. We had many family dinners where my cousins and siblings and I were seated away from our parents and we made out just fine.

This post is so full of misinformation it should be considered trolling.

Coffee is part of the dining plan and refills on soda ARE not at your own expense. I have eaten at this restaurant more times than anyone on this board.

If you ordered one of their specialty sodas ( IE..Berry Cherry Limeaid, or the Glacier water ), then yes...thats a non refillable item.

Walk in the door as a party of 7 and you will be seated as a party of 7..no matter what Disney tells you.
