Our DS has been to WDW many times and loves going to TS places, but we are taking his friend who has never been (how anyone can live in Florida and NOT go to WDW is beyond me, but that's a story for another post). I have no idea whether they will want to sit down for a couple of hours or if they will be jumping up and down in their seats ready to go (we've never travelled with more than 1 kid, so this is going to be an experience). I can't ask the boys what they would rather do, because it's a surprise trip and they won't know about it until we pick them up from school on Friday (yes, this Friday, 5/20, so not much time to plan this!).

Should I just plan on going commando all weekend and grabbing quick CS, or is it worth it to try and do a couple of nice meals?

I'd pick one TS meal.

WCC - may have an opening. I think the boys would enjoy this restaurant as they can get a refill on milkshakes and fun things happen if you ask for ketchup, straws, etc.

Tusker House buffet-they probably aren't into the characters so lunch and dinner don't have characters and they are cheaper. What pre-teen wouldn't like a buffet while on a trip. TH has some different food too!

I guess the other question is do you know how this boy eats? I mean, my 12 yr old is VERY picky and I have to plan our TS around him so I know he will find something to eat. Do you know his parents? That's a silly question, since you had to have their permission to take him with you! Ask them what he might want to do and what he likes to eat.

Duh - do I feel stupid! I didn't even think about checking with his mom about what type of food he likes. That's a great idea! Probably should have been obvious but I'm still trying to wrap my brain around travelling with 2 kids! :scared1:

I find most 12yr olds aren't too excited about food. If they are anything like my kids they will be all about the rides. I think CS and maybe one TS, like a character buffet breakfast would be fine (Tusker house?)or one special type dinner (Whispering Canyon, 50's Prime Time, etc.) :thumbsup2

I echo the PPs recommendation to ask the boy's mother about his dining preferences. I also think this is mandatory just to check for any food allergies or dietary restrictions! Something your average young boy may not think to mention ahead of time.

Also if you are going for Star Wars week end, I am sure just that alone will be a big chunk of your time, parades etc. Are you doing the 7pm hoopala? If you are at the studios definetly do counter service or try for a ts at an off time.

I would book 1 ts and cancel it if you have too. You could also boat over to the Boardwalk for espn for burgers etc if they like sports etc, or something at epcot?

I'd recommend making some TS reservations in advance. That way, you'll have them if you want them, and you can cancel if you find out the boys are better off in a CS situation. Better safe than sorry, since you won't know in advance which will work best for the boys.

If you don't make any ADRs, you probably won't be able to get much at the last minute, after arrival, so it pays to plan ahead!

Well my son (now 16) has always loved Sci Fi and Prime Time but with Stars Wars Weekends, those may be out.

I think a character meal is always fun (Cape May is one I always have good luck getting into), WCC would probably be a hit.

I also think TRex or Rainforest would be good bets. You can call either one directly for a reservation if there aren't any available online.

If you can't find anything available, cs will work fine, we have done the cs plan the last two trips with #3 coming up and I have to say, in most ways my kids don't miss the constant sit down meals. Or rather don't miss being on the strict schedule to make all those ADR's!

But I do like to have one or two per trip if possible.

:thumbsup2

We will be at HS for most of the day on Saturday for SWW, so I think I'm going to try to get an ADR for 50's PT or SciFi. We've done 50's PT but never SciFi - I think the boys might like it. If I can't get an ADR, we may just hop over to MK and get CS. We have decided to do TRex on Sunday before heading home.
