I have enjoyed reading all four books. I teach middle school and last fall 2008 my students were all reading the series, so, I picked it up myself. I can definitely see the appeal of the series for the middle school set, but would not recommend it for an eight year old. There is just to much sexual scenes, etc..
I think our society already puts sex out there WAY too early for kids (TV programs, commercials, music, etc). As a mother, I would not want to expose my own daughter to the sexual tension, and controlling relationship that is in the plot.
I agree with many others. I was disappointed in "Breaking Dawn". As another poster here said, it just droned on and on in the beginning. It is too bad that the author chose to just jump into the wedding first. I think the readers would have liked to read a chapter or two on the preparations to the wedding. What adolescent girl hasn't thought about planning her own wedding. It would have been fun to read about Alice's preparations.
