I've been sick and am not a big TV person, so my sister suggested I buy Twilight to read...I was instantly hooked! I read all 4 books plus the portion of Midnight Sun available online and am now anxiously awaiting the movie (even though the actor looks nothing like how I pictured Edward in my mind)! Any others sharing my new obsession?

My DD8 wants me to read them to her. I am a little concerned, though, because as much as I love, Love, LOVE the Edward/Bella romance -- he is very controlling and it might send her the wrong message about appropriate behavior in a relationship. Any thoughts?

Awesome books..My absolute favorite( I am 34 and belong to the twilight Moms online forum)I think that Breaking Dawn is a little intense for smaller /younger readers.I don't think Edwards behavior is all that concerning if you put into context his real age.I am eagerly awaiting the movie on 11/21/08/ Though the choice for Edward is not what I had either, I think he will be perfect.Take a look at the trailers at youtube.

I can only read after the kids go to bed and I devoured "Twilight" in about four nights. Granted one night I stayed up until almost 12:30am and hated myself for it the next day but I do that when I really enjoy a book. I will be getting the next one, or two, this weekend! I loved reading the Anne Rice Vampire chronicles many moons ago so this book was a must read for me.

I'm not sure that I would read it to an eight yr. old though. It strikes me more as a 13 and up type of book.

LOL-any way I totally agree-movie Edward does not at all come across as book Edward in anyway

As far as reading it to an 8 year old-I think there is too much sexual tension, plus the whole vampire nightmare issue that might arise in an 8 year olds imagination. I would wait a bit-even though the books are labeled 6-12 years

I was a huge Anne Rice fan, too. I honestly have to say, though, I thought these were better! I'm the same way you are, once I get hooked on a good book I can't put it down!

My DD is very fearless, I am not worried about it scaring her. I agree with you about the sexual tension in the later books, but I think the first one is pretty tame. I am more concerned about it sending the wrong message. I've never been a big fan of promoting the damsel in distress thing with her, even though she still prefers Sleeping Beauty to Pocahontas!

I have read the first 200 pages and don't really care for it. I do still plan to finish it some day, I don't like making an opinion on a book that I haven't finished. It's just not my cup of tea so far, so it's hard to pick up and read soemtimes, it can be very teeny-boppery at the beginning.

It seems like more of 12-16ish type book so far. I don't think an 8 year old would understand or need to hear about sexual tension/controlling Edward/willing-to-do-anything-for-him Bella... but also this first book seems really innocent so far (mind you I haven't come close to finishing it yet).

I thought the same thing the first couple of chapters of Twilight. It's kind of like Harry Potter in that way -- the beginning of Harry Potter the writing is very juvenile but it changes along with the characters. Stick with it, it grows on you fast -- let me know what you think when you're done!

I downloaded it legally off her site, but she did sound really upset about the bootleg copy. Can't blame her, really. From what I understand, she gave the actors copies so they could better understand their characters, it wasn't meant for public consumption yet. Reading the first 12 chapters now, I guarantee you it won't keep me from buying the book! Just anxious for her to finish!

She does kind of have the odds stacked against her, doesn't she?! I think that's part of Edward's charm to her. She spent her whole life taking care of Renee, and then Charlie. Finally, someone's coming to her rescue and taking care of her. Actually, I think she is a great character -- brave, selfless, good-hearted. Without too many spoilers, the only thing I don't like about Bella is how she turns selfless into self-destructive in the later books, and I don't just mean the extreme sports.

I wouldn't read it to an 8 year old. But then again, I'm pretty selective about what my kids see/hear/read. I just think there is too much implied. Besides, these are considered YA books....to me, that means like 13 and older.

Love Love Love these books!!! I just finished Breaking Dawn last night. I would be having withdrawals but I had a new book I was waiting to start so I'm all into Acheron now. LOL Sherrilyn Kenyon is by far my favorite authors of these "styles" of books.
I have read Anne Rice but not a big fan, I do love these Twilight books though. I imagine they will be on my list of read, reread, read, reread...LOL I have a few lists like that. I have a 12 y.o. DD and don't think I'm ready for her to read them yet. Bella does let Edward control her a lot, in fact I was ready to quit reading Eclipse because of that. But, I hung in and I'm soooooooooooooooooooo glad I did. They really are one of a kind books.

My DD 13 is totally hooked and now so am I. She has read the first three and will have the fourth one done by tomorrow at the pace she is reading. I had a day free last week and read Twilight. I'll start the next one tomorrow (and finish it as well,I'm sure since I can't put them down once I get strated). I love that there is a great series of well written books that compels the 13, 14, 15, and 16+ yo crowd to read! I also love that since I spent the $$ on the books it is something that I enjoy as well. I don't think my DD has ever read this much in a summer--she is a reader but never at the verocious pace she is going now. She read two Jodi Piccult novels for her mandatory summer reading and then all four of these books (by the time school starts on Wed.) I hope when I return to work on Wednesday I find that my students have been this engaged in reading.

I love the books too, but in my opinion the books could be half the size. I got a little bored with 200+ some pages of Bella and Edward staring into each others eyes, her touching his cool skin, etc, etc. I like when the action finally starts which is usually about the 2nd half of the books. I think I will love the movie, because they only have so much time so they can put in enough romance that we understand the bond between the two, but most of the movie will probably be the action part of the book. Just my opinion - I know most people love the romance parts.

Jasper doesn't look anything like I pictured him, neither does Jacob. The clips are encouraging that Robert Pattinson might be able to pull off Edward. I just hope it reflects the book instead of trying to be a Buffy episode. Breaking Dawn was not my favorite, but I certainly didn't hate it the way some people seem to.

That's so cool you got to meet Stephenie! I really hope she finishes Midnight Sun! Actually, I think it would be awesome to read the entire series from Edward's point of view! Especially the first two. I am definitely going to check out Twilight Moms!
