I saw this last night. I thought it was certainly a lot better than the awful New Moon, but still pretty bland. These films to me are just a passing, well promoted bit of pop-culture. I honestly believe in a few years that most people are going to look back on these films and be slightly embarrassed by them.
I know I am a bloke, and a lot of girls will say that these films aren't aimed at me, but that is nonsense. I can enjoy good romantic movies as much as anyone, as long as they are not filled with clunky dialogue, poor direction and confusing character motives.
Vampires and Werewolves are incredibly cool, but these films have succeeded in making them seem really boring, which is pretty baffling.
My girlfriend says that Bellas motives and emotions are a lot easier to understand and relate to in the books, but I find it really hard to like a set of movies where the main character just comes across as being really selfish and horrible. The excuse of 'books having more time to explain motivations than movies possibly can' is not a valid one, as many movies have previoulsy managed to translate characters and scenarios from books perfectly. On this occasion, it's just down to poor scriptwriting and direction.
I am sure that if a director such as Peter Jackson or David Fincher had adapted these books, that the films could have been thrilling and emotionally involving. As they are, I just feel that people are happy to look at the pretty people and accept that this is the best these films could have been, which is a shame.
