I have a soon to be 10 year old daughter and would like to get her started on a good facial cleansing program. Any ideas on products? She does not have any sign of pimples YET!

I hope you don't mind me jumping in on your question...I would also love some advice too! My DD will be 11 in Dec and while she does not have any pimples yet, I would love to get her into a routine of cleaning her face.

Cetaphil is very gentle and a great cleanser. I still use it for my sensitive skin and it is what works best for dd who is 15. She now uses a scrub sometimes and a toner but Cetaphil for every day use.
In fact, we buy the Walmart or drug store brand because it's the least expensive and has the exact same results.

My girls are preteens too and I bought them Spectro Jel. It's what I remember using when I was their age. Cetaphil as mentioned before is good too.

I really like Velocity from Mary Kay for younger skin.

DD8 has precocious puberty and has some acne issues her her dermatologist suggested the Velocity line from MK. She said to add the acne treatment gel and blemish controlling toner as needed.

Cetaphil. A lot of dermatologists recommend it. It's gentle, inexpensive, and good.

This.. My 12 ds uses this and it really helps keep his skin clear. If he doesnt use it every day, there is a noticeable difference in his skin. Plus, it's a good gentle cleanser for before skin problems pop up.

Can't go wrong with Cetaphil Gentle skin cleanser. It's cheap and that's what has been recommended by all my dermatologists. Does great!

Sounds like Cetaphyl is most suggested. Any ideas on moisturizer?

It really depends on skin type. I use Clinique dramatically different, but on most teens it would probably be too greasy. They make an oil free that is really good and much lighter. In reality, she may not need a moisturizer at all.

There is a pretty good web site that you can find by googling "save or splurge beauty products" that has suggestions as well.

I also suggest Cetaphil. The bar is inexpensive, around $4, it was recommended by my Dermatologist, it works well and I also read that a famous model, sorry can't recall her name at the moment, swears by it yo help keep her skin clear. Cetaphil is good stuff. Neutrogena has nice, affordable products that are gentle and work well too-also recommended by my Dermatologist.

kiddo and i both use Simple refreshing face wash. it's super gentle and doesn't leave skin all dry and tight feeling.

Eucerin is good, too. There are a few different versions but they're all very gentle. Dove sensitive is a great bar soap. I've used it since I was a tween. Purpose is an awesome moisturizer.

I greatly prefer the Yes To... line of products. They're all sulfate-free which has helped my acne TREMENDOUSLY. I still had fairly regular breakouts until I changed to sulfate-free soaps and shampoos. Even for those who aren't extremely sensitive to sulfates they can still trigger acne and other skin irritations. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a harsh detergent that can irritate and dry out skin. Toners with alcohol should also be avoided for similar reasons - if you dry out the skin, it'll overproduce oil which leads to more clogged pores and breakouts.

I use the Yes To Cucumbers shampoo/conditioner and face wash. I order it through Amazon.com, but it's also available at most drugstores. http://www.yestocarrots.com/

I really wish I had known about SLS when I was a teen. I went through lots of different acne meds and soaps when a lot of my problems were likely due to SLS/sulfates. Cetaphil does have SLS in it and dried my skin out horribly as a teen.
