Tween boy hygiene question

My family has been all girls, now my DS is a tween - what is a good shampoo, deodrant and face wash for a tween boy? Everything we have is flowery smelling and that won't do for him. He washes his hair and it is all sweaty in no time at all! He picked out Axe deordorant, is that a good one?

Ds11 has Axe body wash and shampoo, but regular deoderant.

Let him pick out something. I know the neutrogena just came out with a sports line of body wash and face wash. Not girly smelling at all.

My kids didn't like the Axe deodorant. I have three boys, 12, 14 & 17.

We seem to do best with the Speedstick deodorants, especially the ones listed as "24 hour protection."

They do like the Axe body wash. Middle son is allergic to Old Spice body wash, but can use the deodorant spray. We did just recently try the Dove body wash for men, they like it, it went fast. SoftSoap makes a mens body wash also. They prefer the moisturizing ones though. Hubby likes the Axe with the grit in it, says he feels cleaner.

They will switch between a few different shampoos, usually the suave for men, gillette men shampoo and oldest gets dandruff so he uses the Head & Shoulders.

That being said, all of this stuff has so much scent to it. It's all strong. To me at least. When they do get home from school, I don't smell it anymore but in the morning it's strong.

This is going to sound weird, but a lot of guys I know like the cucumber scent from Bath & Body Works.

My son dosen't use the axe deoderent but the old spice I think in the red? I think becasue dh used it. They do use axe everything else.

They asked that the boys do not wear Axe at my son's school. Don't know if that's enforced but my son doesn't wear it.

Dove makes a men's line now. American Crew is also "manly" if you want to go salon stuff.

My son said the Dove stuff makes his hair awful though. He seems to like Pantene classic.

Personally, I hate the way the Axe or Old Spice stuff smells so much that I don't let DH use it and I certainly don't plan on buying it for my boy when the time comes.

I had really greasy hair as a teen and so did my brother. We both used Prell shampoo and it worked great for getting and keeping our hair clean and it does not smell overly flowery.

Adidas and Degree both make great, clean smelling deoderant sticks and Dial body washes are also great.

Our almost 14-year-old grandson spends a weekend with us once a month, and I'm not sure which is worse, body odor, or that Axe crap he uses.

He pretty much has to be told when to go take a shower, and I have jokingly told him to "use soap." But I swear that Axe stuff makes me nauseous. I hate the smell of it.

DH uses Irish Spring body wash, and unscented Mitchum deoderant. I'm tempted to buy some for our grandson and say, "here, use these when you're at our house", but I don't want to hurt his feelings either.

I've even got a favorite blanket in the family room that I like to curl up with in the evenings when we're watching TV, and I put it away when he comes over because I don't want him using it and getting that Axe smell all over it. I feel awful but I just hate the smell of it!!

My brothers and DH all liked my Juniper breeze stuff from B+bw. On day when they couldn't/can't find my stuff they use Suave for men, dial,gillette. And speed stick

Gotta be honest- I hate Axe. Boys that I went to High School and College with thought that it made them irresistable. It made me want to vomit .

OP- your son probably picked Axe because it is "cool" and the commercials for it are very enticing to young men.

DH gets his own "products" because he doesn't want to use my fancy schmancy girl stuff. He uses a bar of dial soap, shampoo and conditioner that come in giant bottles from Costco, and Old Spice deoderant.

OP- I think it's best to just let him pick out whatever. If he wants to buy into the "manly" products, I'd let him, as long as you weren't dropping $10 for a bottle of shampoo! If he wants just simple, generic like products, I'd recommend DH's choices- he smells good AND is clean!

My DS11 uses Tom's Natural deodorant. It's fragrance free and works very well. My kid has needed deodorant since 3rd grade and I didn't want him wearing the ones that smell like cologne.

We use Aveeno products for body washes and shampoo. They have very light fragrances.

My kids use regular old soap (Dial, Zest, Safeguard) and water. They both use Axe Kilo deodorant but don't overdo it so I actually like the scent. i

My 2 older sons used Axe. The 2 younger ones are getting to close to the age where they will need something as well. I imagine they will use Axe since their older brothers did. Or if they don't like it then I will just get whatever they do like. Anything is better than being stinky.

I buy my ds Suave for men shampoo. It's priced pretty well at Target and he certainly goes through a lot of it!!

For deod. I buy the 3 pack of whatever at Costco. If is says extra-strength and men on the label it's the one I pick up.

DS12 uses the Old Spice, that is the brand they gave out in his Maturation class so he asked me to get him more of that. He just uses regular Dove Body Wash bc of allergies but did ask if he could try the Mens Dove when this bottle ran out. His hair get greasy quick so he still uses regular baby shampoo still, J&J. He can not use a 2-1 hair shampoo at all.

My DS12, when he uses it, has Axe. It's not that strong as a body wash, I hope he never wants to wear that spray that some kids spray all over themselves. I won't be able to be near him if he does!

I don't have a boy but after sniffing some of the boys hanging around my daughter, I'd say to avoid Axe. That stuff is just nasty!

My son's school banned Axe products too.
