My dd10 has started puberty in terms of acne. She has been using alcohol free stridex maximum strength pads twice a day. I don't think it is helping much anymore. This morning she has one big whitehead (the kind that you look at and want to squeeze though I told her not to do that). I will probably call the dr to see what the next step should be but looking for other ideas beyond prescription meds.

If she only has a few pimples they probably won't do much. Cleaning her face with a mild cleanser is probably a better way to go. If she is washing twice a day she may be doing more harm than good-drying out her face too much thus forcing her skin to create more oil.

Try having her wash with Cetaphil or similar and skip the acne wipes for now.

I have heard you should pop pimples or they will scar.

My DS12 was prescribed a very mild cream and it has worked wonders! It is called Clindamycin.

Twice a day is to much for the pads I imagine, could be back firing.

Cetaphil is what our Dr told us to use on oldest to cleanse and prescribed a mild cream.

Once it was cleared up we used Proactive , used it on him for years , worked great for us.

We've had luck with Acne Free, the cheaper version of Proactiv.

Re: popping pimples - they scar if you pop them, not the other way around. It causes damage to the surrounding tissue and can force the bacteria in, causing more problems.

M 14yodd is trying out a product from Sephora, called DDF, Doctor's Dermatologic Formula.

She just started it, so who knows.:confused3

We have tried all the products in the discount stores so I bucked it up and am going to try something else more expensive. We will see....

Has anyone tried the zeno for their young teen? They make an 80 use one thats disposable, and I'm thinking of getting that for my dd. She doesn't have bad break-outs yet so there is no need for her to see a dermatolgist now.

Here are reviews on Makeupalley for Zeno. I don't buy any beauty products without checking M.A. first.

Try the green mask from Sally's Beauty Supply Helene's Mint Julep. I heard about it here on the DIS. I bought some for myself, but when DD returned from a Girl Scout trip this summer her face was a mess, and the stuff from the dermatologist needed a bit of a boost, so I gave it to her to try. Worked great, she still uses it from time to time. So you might give it a try. It's very inexpensive, but I wouldn't use it too often.
If it doesn't clear up, get to the DR. I wish I had taken DD sooner, her skin is so much better, and she's so much more confident.

With me its the opposite. If I do not pop them with a needle they get flat, bruised and hard for months and leave huge marks. If they get popped the "scar" goes away after about a week or two.

Not saying pop those buggers but just what I found has worked for me.

A very thin layer of Milk of Magnesia applied at night works wonders for me and my 11 year old daughter. I read about it in the People's Pharmacy, and I was very skeptical but it really does work. If your daughter is uncomfortable sleeping with it on her face, she can leave it on for about an hour and then wash it off. Talk about inexpensive! A huge bottle is about $3.99.

I think the acne wipes are very harsh and do more harm than good. I would have her wash with a face wash for acne and then use and oil free moisturizer. If she washes too often or skips moisturizer her skin might produce more oil to compensate for the lack of moisture.
I really like Clinique's acne wash and Neutrogena's oil free moisturizer. Proactiv and the like were too extreme for my skin. Clinique also has a really good on the spot treatment that she can put directly on pimples.
A thin layer of Milk of Magnesia really mattifies your face, it's amazing. I don't if it treats acne, but it keeps me from being shiny.
I scar whether or not I pop a pimple, I guess I'm just lucky :confused3

Wild! Never heard of that. So maybe the magnesium acts as an antibacterial deal? Have to look that up.

DD's Dr. told her to start using Cetaphil so she doesn't get break out, and stressed keeping her face clean. I'm pretty sure Acne is hereditary-it sounds like your DD just has break outs. But I'm glad you're taking precautionary steps and calling a Dr for her-I work with a girl who is maybe in her 20's with the worst case of Acne I've ever seen.

This is true I've tried it and it works. I also just read on Yahoo beauty that you should change your pillow case everynight that way you're not sleeping on the bacteria from the pervious night.

Also ladies the Milk of Magnesia works if you put a very very light coat of it on before your foundation. It works as a base helping your makeup to stay put and absorbs oil throughout the day.

Be sure to take her to a Derm Dr. if it's that bad, they have so many Rx's out there that are meant just for teens. DS17 uses one called Epiduo....works wonders.

Clean and Clear continuous control cleanser 10% Benzoyl peroxide. Older daughter had been using a perscription benzoyl peroxide cleanser and we were paying a $20 copay, (not to mention what the insurance company was paying) this works just as well and I can get it as cheap as $4 a tube sometimes.

Zeno didn't work for my DD. She had mild acne until she turned 17. Up till then she used benzeclin and differin with pretty good success. After a really bad year and a half of trying so many topicals and antibiotics we switched dermotologists and got her on accutane which seems to be working.

Mary Kay acne treatment gel is a staple in our house!! We had been out for a while, and DS11 was starting to break out. Got some for him about 4 days before school pictures, and his zits were all gone for pictures!
