tween acne

Clean and Clear continuous control cleanser 10% Benzoyl peroxide. Older daughter had been using a perscription benzoyl peroxide cleanser and we were paying a $20 copay, (not to mention what the insurance company was paying) this works just as well and I can get it as cheap as $4 a tube sometimes.

Getting a Dermatologist opinion would be the best bet. Most Derm Doc will let them know if they can buy something over the counter or if a Rx would work best. There are different reason for people getting acne and different kinds of acne. There are different kinds of meds too some that treat the bacteria some that dry up existing acne and some oral antibiotics that prevent future out breaks.

This. Plus a Benzoyl Peroxide gel, such as Persa-Gel 10. (I got the Target brand, it was on sale). My face broke out something awful this week. I am 23 and so sick of acne!! I was googling and googling trying to find something to help me, and I found this: http://www.acne.org/regimen.html

I tried it last night, and this morning my breakout is almost gone. I didn't really believe it would work, but I was desperate!

(I know this sounds like an advertisement or something, but it's not I promise!! Just a desperate 23 year old girl sick of breakouts on my face).

I agree. Our twins are both on acne medicines when the OTC stuff wasn't helping. Neither DH nor I nor any siblings EVER had acne-a pimple here and there yes, but that is not acne.

They are both on doxycycline orally and use DIffrin. DS15 also uses Duac (just started last week)-I think it is newer. This is keeping them under control but not totally eliminating their acne. The dermo wanted us to consider Accutane for DS but after researching that DS said he would rather have a few pimples then deal with life long side effects from the meds.

Apricot facial scrubs work wonders. Just have them wash their face daily with it . It gently scrubs the skin and keeps it very fresh looking. My ds and niece both have oily skin and it has worked wonders for them. Tried acne meds for them and this works the best. You can really see a difference in how gorgeous their skin looks.

I've also heard you can put a thin layer of toothpaste on a zit to dry it up.

I know that different things work for different people, but a dermatologist told me not to use apricot facial scrub on acne prone skin. The scrub contains small sharp fragments, which can tear the skin and increase breakouts.

A really good product for exfoliating the skin is Effaclar toner: http://www.laroche-posay.us/_us/_en/Consumer/Catalog/ByType/Oily/effaclar-toner.htm
I started using this instead of the scrub and it works really well.

I'm an avid Proactiv user. But for a 12 year old, it might be hard to follow because it is a 3 step system, and if you don't do all 3 steps, it won't work. I used it at a younger age, and I didn't have the patience to do all 3 steps...

I think Neutrogena products are the best. I always got the best results from them, out of other drugstore kinds. Proactiv is the only one that will keep my face consistently clear though.

My niece had horrible acne until about a month ago. Sister asked her best friend what they used on her daughter. She uses dandruff shampoo. So Sister had Niece try it. Worked like a charm! No more acne. Everyone I know who has tried this says it works.
