TV Time?

Our TV is on constantly. There are no regulations in our house both my kids watch it all the time. and both are very good students. However 90% of the time the TV is on to the militarily channel, or the history channel, or discovery, or Nat Geo. My son is a history nut so he watches the military or history channel almost all the time. My DH is a news nut so the other TV is almost always on Fox or the science channels. My kids always do their homework with the TV on in the background. My DD especially can't work when it is quiet.

Ours too. My kids are older now; 18, 21 and 22 and I never restricted the TV time with them. They did their homework in the living room, same room I was in, and they did only 1 activity because I wasn't running them all over the place and really I didnt' think they needed to be involved in so much stuff that they got burned out. They all did good in school and continue to do good in college and for the youngest in her AP classes.

Maybe I was lucky, or maybe because it was always on and a big deal wasn't made about it, but they never were so into TV to the point that they didn't do homework or anything else they were told to do.

Our TV time varies. Basically no electronics when it's light out. So they watch more TV/computer time during the winter, and very little during the summer. I don't care when they do homework, as long as it gets done. And I don't care when they go to bed as long as they're not complaining about being tired. It's OK to tape something to watch at another time. DS enjoys reading so I don't set a time for him to do that, he does it on his own.

We don't really have any limitations except that homework has to be done first. DD goes to my mom's after school and usually she and my niece will play outside if its nice but I think this winter its been so cold they have probably watched more tv in the afternoons. Although they don't get home until probably 3:30 - 4:00 and sometimes have to go back out to pick up my dad from work so there's not much time.

After I pick her up and we get home she has to do homework first and take her shower and have dinner. Then she can watch TV if she wants until bedtime. Which she gets in bed at 8:00 and the timer is set for 9:00. A lot of nights she lays in bed and reads with the TV as background noise (same as me). But some nights she just watches TV and I'm okay with that.

When its warm she plays outside alot on the weekends but over the winter she's watched more TV. But a lot of times it just background noise while she plays barbies or crafts or something.

If I ever see it interfering with her grades or less reading then we'll impose some limits. But for now she seems to do okay with making her own choices regarding TV. And its the first thing she loses as punishments too.
