I was at the hockey game the other night and we were talking about a show or commercial that was recently on (we can't remember what it was). In it there were two guys and one told the other that he could be his Goose when they were getting ready to go out. It was a reference to Top gun. Then a little later ( I think they were getting into the car) the other one goes but doesn't goose die?

Anyone know what this was on? We can not come up with it and its driving us crazy. My DH family has this weird thing were when Top Gun was just coming out his mom had not seen it and someone else told her that Goose died. It was a big joke about how they ruined the movie for her. Well now whenever something comes up about telling things ahead they always say something like "You know Goose dies".

Any help?

I haven't a clue, but if you would like me to move this to the community board I can, it will get more exposure. Let me know!:)

Let's see what someone over here may come up with and then we'll see about moving it.

Yes, Goose I believe is the one who was killed when he went to eject and he hit the glass enclosure of the plane.. it hadn't moved away like they thought it would... I'll call DH he loves Top Gun! According to DH he broke his neck hitting the canopy (the glass enclosure of the plane).. He was the actor who played Dr. Green on ER and his wife was Meg Ryan if I'm thinking clearly!

LOL too funny. I know who played him we are just trying to figure out what show it was recently that referenced the movie.

Sometimes, if you go to IMDB you might be able to see the reference there under Top Gun. I'll check and post if I see anything...

Hmm I love imdb and never knew about the reference thing.

The only one that looks recent enough was Veronica Mars which I know I watch but not sure my friends do. I may have to do some investigating on that choice.

Well it may still be vm but not the episode listed since when I actually looked at it the date was 2005 LOL but I was diligent and went and looked at the description to make sure I just hadn't seen a rerun lately but I hadn't.
Vack to the drawing board. Lets see does anyone else watch Veronica. Could it have been the episode after Logan and Veronica broke up and he is going out with Dick? I'll have to see a recap of that ep to see if thats it.

I've seen that too - I feel like it was a commercial. Maybe a beer commercial or something?

You know my family has a running joke like that too but we're going to look like a bunch of geeks when you hear it. Once my cousin was telling us he was reading Billy Budd for school and my Dad made a reference to the main character dying at the end. My cousin gave him a look like he didn't know what he was talking about so I teased my Dad, "you spoiled the ending for him." (Not that it was a terribly exciting page turner) To this day I still tease my Dad sometimes, "Billy Budd dies, you know."

Okay, my running joke along those lines actually deal with another DIS thread. Over on the CB I hang out on the Angels thread. Anyway, a few of us are into reality TV. Well after watching three months of Big Brother, another poster accidently tells me who won, so now whenever we watch a reality tv show, the joke is that the fat naked guy wins (think first survivor episode). popcorn::

Hmm maybe it was a commercial. I usually Tivo everything so I skip the commercials but if i'm busy doing someting or just being lazy I let them run. LOL

I have wracked my brain trying to remember this! I saw it, too!! I asked DH and he remembers it as well. We have it narrowed down to 2 shows--it was either on "Psych" on USA or on "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS. Or at least, we think so! ;)

Well I've never seen Psych but I love HIMYM so that could be it. I had thought that one too but then I couldn't put it with an episode. LOL Maybe I do watch too much tv.:rotfl: sorry that was too funny to me

I'm glad to find someone else who watches HIMYM! The one where they all revealed their "first time" was my favorite. When Barney said, "I worked at as a dance teacher at a camp in the Catskills", I looked at DH and said, "like on Dirty Dancing". When they did the singing part, DH just looked at me and said, "We're going to have to buy this on DVD aren't we?"

We actually gave Season 1 to two of our friends for Christmas. They both sat and watched it all the way through and are now hooked. My sister picked it up when she was up visiting at Thanksgiving and bought the set for herself. LOL

We love the show. My DH laughs since I don't normally do half hour comedies but I tried this one out for Allyson Hannigan. (I was a huge Buffy fan so I watch all the shows with fellow castmates). I actually laughed at the first episode and we've been watching ever since.
