.... and my kids aren't happy about it. They seem to have a case of the "Blah's" and are at each other constantly.... don't want to do anything but sit in front of that screen.... so we are limiting them to 2 hours of screen time (tv or computer or combo) a day. I don't think that is unreasonable do you? Today I'm taking them to the library and I think I'll get the bottles together and we can go to the redemption center and put the $$ in our Disney Fund... maybe organize some yard sale stuff. I think I'll call our local Children's museum and see if my dd can volunteer there a couple of days a week too. Is school ready to start yet??

LOL! My SO would have more trouble being tv deprived than my kids would (but just barely;)). Have fun keeping them distracted from the tv, Lorelei.:)

The Library, yuk, do you mean like to read

How old are they and how many childrendo you have? I think that seems resonable, I don't know if I could stick to those rules. Let us know how it goes. :D

Sounds like a great idea. My kids have been at each other too and every time they start the 1st thing I do is turn off the tv. My 10yo dd has been doing lots of reading and my 4yo dd is big into imagination play. I think only good things come from less tv.

Good luck!

I had a similar rule when I was younger... only I could go past my 2 hours if it was the news or weather channel ;)

Sad thing is... I got addicted to the weather channel. LOL!

I would fall over and die. I am sure of it :) I have the TV on from morning to night (for noise) whether I am working, surfing the net, DISing or reading.

Great! As I said in a previous post, we don't let our kids watch TV during the week. We do allow some during summer vacation, though, if there is a good movie on for them at night.

As you have probably already seen, it is tough on you also. Kids today just don't know how to play!!! When we first started this, they would come over to me with the "What can I do now?" A few times I almost caved and said go watch something - but I hung in there.

I know it sounds corny, but I love reading together as a family. We've read all the Harry Potter books (not #5 yet!) and we play board games. We love the Monster, Inc. Life! and Scooby Doo Monopoly! But we also play good simple games like chess, backgammon, mancala, etc.

I don't like the message TV sends kids - makes them materialistic. It is the world's worst babysitter!

Getting off my soap box now . . . .

I was bad about TV when I was a kid too. Now I rarely watch. I've replaced it with the PC. :)

Our son is at day camp today luckily so he has plenty to do this week.
