Tusker House turning into a buffet

"Tusker House, at Animal Kingdom is being converted to a buffet service restaurant to open in early November. It will offer a Character Breakfast called Donald's Safari Breakfast and will offer non-character buffets for lunch and dinner. It will be open from 8am - 10:30am for Breakfast and 11:30 until park closing for lunch and dinner. Both indoor and outdoor seating will be available.To make the necessary renovations, Tusker house will be closed from August 20 until November 17th. During this time, the Safari Celebration Dinner Grand Gathering will be unavailable. The last Safari Grand Gathering will be on August 19th. It will return on November 25th.Donald's Breakfastosaurus character breakfast will end after November 5th. Restaurantosaurus wil continue to be open as a quick service restaurant from 10:30am until park closing.Reservations will not be needed for the outdoor seating since that area will not be part of the Character Breakfast. Once Tusker House reopens, the Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery will remain open but only from the outdoor window.At this time the characters at the new breakfast will be Donald, Daisy, Mickey and Goofy (of course that is always subject to change and daily availablity of the stars)."

I liked Tusker House. We went in December and the chicken sandwiches were yummy. I don't know about anyone else, but I am disappointed by this.

I really don't like what they are doing to Tusker House either. We always go there to eat and I love the Mac and Cheese. Now we have to find somewhere else to eat

I know that this sounds kind of bad but I think it's another way Disney can get money. They know lots of kids love Donald, Daisy etc.

We loved Tusker House. Any visit to AK meant we would eat there. We are really disappointed by this Disney change.

Just an fyi on the Breakfast with Donald. I tried to make a reservation for breakfast in Nov when the restaurant is supposed to be open and they are not taking reservations. Also, Donalds Breakfastasaurous will be closed at this point too, so no reservations allowed there either. Maybe as the date gets closer and they know the construction is on schedule they will take reservations, but for now you cant make a reservation at either for Nov.

Tusker House was also the only place I could find with Kid's Mac & Cheese. Sigh, Disney sometimes does stuff that I don't/will never understand why.

Won't that make the lines at those 2 places unbearable?
Bummer, had heard so much about TH, was really looking forward to it.
BBQ is OK...I'd rather have a wrap or rotisserie chicken.
I'm not generally a buffet fan, either. Obviously it is cheaper to do buffets...especially when you can sell it as a TS on DDP.

Well, the Yak and Yeti will be opening with BOTH TS and CS areas. Restaurantosaurus will continue as a CS. Also, I read that 2 other places (I think one is now a coffee and snack place?) will be serving burgers and the like, at least during free dining. I wish I could remember the details, will check it out and post back here!

Does anyone know if you do the magical gathering in July 07 for tusker house if it is a counter service or table service off your DDP? We have never eaten there is it good and what kind or food do they have?

We will be at AK on Aug 19th. That was going to be our lunch spot. Now I'm not sure if I want to eat there the day before it closes.

What an unfortunate change for us, adults with food allergies. We will now be limited to Pizzafari, as we are allergic to an ingredient used in WDWs BBQ sauces, and when trying to get ingredient information for foods at Landry's owned restaurants (Rainforest, Yak & Yeti), the standard answer is "it comes in pre-seasoned."

Tusker House was my favorite counter service for it's unusual atmosphere and indoor seating and it's good chicken and salmon. I associate Boma's buffet with AK. I don't know why they would need another one. They could have just improved on the one at the Restaurantasaurus. They could have added dinner and lunch there and kept Tusker House the way it is.

I was bummed when I first heard about this change as well. DW and I really enjoyed our lunch at Tusker House, and looked forward to returning in December.
