tusker house closed where should i go?

Hi: I have read that tusker house is closed, that was our fav counterservice restaurant in AK. Where should we go instead?

Tusker House reopens in mid November. Not sure when you'll be there...

Tusker was our favorite too! Oh how I'll miss it. (going buffet and another character meal seems very unnecessary imho) A meal that I always looked forward to(those green beans yummy! and the chicken was delish)

Flame tree was ok - better than counter service elsewhere in the world. I would go there again.

They open on 11/17, I believe. If you aren't into character meals, you are in luck (at least partly). Tusker House will host Donald's Safari for breakfast only, then do a character-free lunch and dinner. Yes, they will be a TS. And Restaurantosaurus will no longer do a character meal- they are going all CS. So, they aren't really adding any character meals, just shifting them from one location to another.

I will miss Tusker House- we loved the salmon and rotisserie chicken. But we do also really like Flame Tree.

We loved Tusker House too!!!!! And I still can't believe that the Powers That Be at WDW decided to close it down, IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST CS ON PROPERTY . It just seems to me like if they wanted to change some restaurants around, they should have been cleaning up their act over at MGM instead!

But anyhoo, now that it's gone here's our new strategy.......

AK is a half day park for us so we're planning to use our AK day to fit in Wolfgang Pucks Express at DD before we hop to a Water Park or MGM. If you haven't tried it yet, make plans to fit it in somewhere, it's great!

(No flames please from all the AK lovers out there, we love it too! But we're "repeat customers" so to speak, so now we just hit the highlights. )

Also loved Tusker House, maybe we'll have to try Flame Tree BBQ. What are the best items on the menu, and is there outdoor dining? Hopefully it will be warm enough to eat outside in Nov.

I'm not sure why it is people think the Tusker House won't be serving many of the same foods they always served. I think it's premature to lament the demise of the green beans, chicken or any other favorite dish. They may just serve them alongside the other buffet items. We'll know soon enough, I guess...

I think it's the fact that we won't be able to just walk in when we want and pay a reasonable price for them. From now on, we'll need to make an ADR and pay the (rather high, IMO) buffet prices. Not to mention that some people are kind of squicked out over buffets (cleanliness issues, etc).

Basically, the convenience and lower prices will be gone once Tusker House becomes a TS.

Sure, that makes sense. I was just reacting to the comment here (and other similar comments on other threads) that certain specific dishes wouldn't be available anymore.

I totally understand, David.. It is premature to cry over the loss of items that may still be on the menu. We'll just have to see when the menu becomes available. Sadly, we will miss TH when we go (we will be coming home on 11/4), so we'll have to try it on our next trip.

It wasn't one of the best CS places - it WAS the best! I am so sad to see it go. I don't really understand why they are changing it to a character meal and then changing the Donald Character meal place into a CS
Seems like a total waste of money to me.

My only hope is that the new CS will serve the old Tusker house food. Then I would be happy.

That's not too likely... wasn't the old Restaurantosaurus just a dressed-up McDonald's? It's unlikely they'll serve the old Tusker House CS menu, given that McDonald's has a standard corporate menu.

I think you're right- they already serve McDonald's food there, and I don't think there will be any change to their menu (unless they are adding breakfast items?? Probably Egg McMuffins and sausage biscuits...). They are just taking Donald's breakfast away.
