I had been using my Sirius Stiletto but it's been giving me trouble. To hook up the XM in my car, do I have to buy a receiver? Any particular kind? And is that something I can do, or do I need a pro to install it?

Thanks!

If your vehicle is XM ready, I would think that you just need to call XM to activate it:confused3. Not sure though.

Maybe this site can help you http://www.xmradio.com/help/faqs/in-vehicle.xmc

I had XM in my Accord that I bought new 1 year ago. The subscription ran out and I did not renew it. DH already has Sirius and we don't want to pay for 2 different subscriptions. It was nice when I had it:thumbsup2!

That's what I would think, but online I'm seeing talk about a receiver. I just don't know if the receiver is built in or not. :confused3

I guess I could call. That would be the easy thing! :rotfl:

If it is XM ready, the receiver should already be there. There will probably be a code that you have to give to XM, not sure where you find it, but they should be able to walk you through it.

We have an Odyssey with XM availability. We had it for a while but I grew tired of the repeat formats. Ironic, eh? You only need the code that came with your car. It's probably in the paperwork you got when you purchased it.
They will, of course, want a credit card number from you.

I don't think it's ready to go. When I touch the XM button on the head unit, nothing happens. So I'm not able to find a code to call in. Also, every website I go to online says XM-ready head units still need a receiver. I don't know. ??

And as far as a code on paperwork - eek! Can't even imagine having to look for that!:scared1:

DH just checked our 2008 Odyssey handbook. Here are the instructions to get your radio ID number:

Hit the XM button to put it in XM Mode. Turn the Tune knob until 0 appears in the display. Then, your ID number will appear.

We had the 3 month trial when we bought our Odyssey. We let them turn it off because we didn't like the price. After a few months, they finally called with a good price. We let it go after the year because I listen to music and podcasts from my IPhone more.

The XM button isn't doing anything. I swear it used to..but now it's not. ? I'll keep trying.

In Honda XM ready does not mean truely ready it means it's pre wired for the receiver. You still need to have a receiver installed. What model do you have? EX EX-L Ex-L RES?

It likely just has the antenna and is ready for XM to be installed. XM ready is about $79 option. XM is about a $500 option. (at least with my manufacturer with Sirius)

I have an 06. It is XM-Ready. I just pulled out the manual and it said I need additional equipment but doesn't say what. So now where do I find this additional equipment, Green Tea? I just need the receiver?

Thanks everyone!

You probably need to take it to a car stereo place that can do an OEM type install of the parts that are needed. They can hardwire it so you don't need an adapter in your tape player. I think if it isn't already installed they can't put it in the existing stereo system. Look at a Honda forum and I bet you can see what is needed. I think you will end up with an external "box" unit.

We have a 2007 EX-L with factory xm receiver, navi, and rear entertainment system.

It came with 3-months xm trial subscription when we took delivery in May 2007 and we let it expired because from time to time xm mailed out special promotions which we took advantages and cancelled after promotions.

Again, we are taking advantage from the latest xm promotions:

1. Fifty free channels for two weeks from May 25 to June 7 (don’t need to do anything!!)

2. Get 120+ channels when you sign up for a free trial of XM Radio Online. Trial promo code is LISTENXM — no credit card needed! Enter a valid email address to receive final activation instructions, then enjoy over 120 channels without any obligation. SIRIUS|XM Premium Internet Radio free, with no obligation, for two full weeks.

3. Five months of “XM Everything” for $20 + taxes without activation fee…..and you guess it, we will cancel by late October/early November.

Also we have music apps on iPhones to play through self-installed the USA Spec’s iPod-to-factory-radio-interface on our 2007 EX-L (note 2007 and earlier models do not have aux input for iPod and iPhone). Self-installed in less than 3 hours with basic understanding of electronic installations.

We ordered USA Spec iPod interface via www.crutchfield.com and very pleased with it and steering wheel controls for iPod function of iPhones.

That's what I thought. I have the EX-L.

I'm looking at my 2007 brochure:

My EX-L with factory Navi comes with XM Satellite Radio/receiver and hardware such as roof mounted xm antenna.

For other EX-L, XM Ready requires additional hardware, installation, and subscriptions at extra costs.
