Turn-Down Service

Ok to each it's own..I have no promblem picking up after myself especially "my" wet towles..I guess thats why I will be staying at the Value resort I nor my children dont need nor expect maid service. But thanks for the input if I ever need someone to pick up my wet towles after me I will stay in a "delux" hotel.:rotfl2:

:confused3 If you reread the post you will see she said about having the wet towels (i.e used) removed (possibly after being hung up on a towel bar and not thrown around the room) and replaced with fresh ones. This is even something that you can have done at a value resort if you wanted to. It has nothing to do with some picking up after someone else, but doing the job they are hired to do. Unless you plan on keeping a do not disturb sign on your door 24/7 there will be housekeeping services provided to your room regardless of the type of resort you stay in.

I for one think I will take advantage of turn down service at least one night on our next trip. I have stayed at a value (or off property ) resort many times and decided to splurge on GF next trip and I plan on seeing and using all the resort has to offer as much as possible because goodness knows when I'll get a chance to do it again. :upsidedow

We take our showers in the late afternoon, after pool time and before we go to dinner. I request turndown service mostly so that the dirty towels are removed and are replaced with fresh ones for the morning. I don't care about the chocolates or the bed being turned down, but those come with the service.

Ooooh! Thanks for that little piece of info!
We're splurging on this trip and staying deluxe for the first time (WL) - thanks to a PIN code. I think I'll spoil myself and request turn down service one night. Will be a cute little surprise for my girls :cutie:

We stayed concierge level at the BWI this past January - in garden suites - and I had completely forgotten about turn down service. We came back to see the sofa bed opened and made up, which was very convenient. We also got cute little cards with a 'good night' quote and a couple of pieces of salt water taffy on each nightstand. We never used our towels in the afternoon, as it was a bit chilly to swim, so I didn't know they replaced those, too.

Not something I would have thought to request, but a lovely touch!

My family loves  turn-down service. We, actually, pick-up after ourselves and even, straighten the room, so mousekeeping won't have, too, much to do, on top of $6-$10 tips per day. But, guests that pay more at deluxe resorts, should enjoy more services. I've always felt more relaxed, walking into a room that has been turned down- nice crisp sheets, fresh towels, dimmed lights and evening chocolates- at AKL we even had warm towels and the room smelled of this intoxicating, smoked wood scent...it was heavenly :cloud9:

I don't think anyone should feel guilty or have to defend, requesting a service, their money has paid for..jmho :)

Reb -- You're not doing anyone any favors by refusing to use the amenties offered by a resort, and insisting that you can do everything yourself.

For those who need jobs, you do them a much bigger favor by having them come by, turn down your bed and put out fresh towels. WDW has to keep more people on the job later in the day to handle turn-down demand. Plus, fresh towels means more people employed in the laundry.

We love coming back to our room after dinner and finding fresh towels, the bed turned down, the lights turned low, etc. DH always insists on tipping $5 for turndown service (more for maid service earlier in the day). So, far better for the housekeeping CM's plus society as a whole that we utilize turn-down service!

Just something to think about when you're insisting that you refuse to have someone who makes $6 per hour pick up after you.

Wow, thanks for the information. I didn't know that people not on the club level/conierge level could get this. I am staying at a deluxe this September and was wondering when should I request this service? How far before I go? Or when I check in?

Just call mousekeeping the day you check in and request it. They'll come by while you're out in the early evening/late afternoon. Or, if you're in, they'll just drop off some chocolates. ;)

As for the debate raging on the thread... It's not about, "Oh, I'm lazy, I'm getting someone to do a 'chore' for me." First of all, taking care of your room is mousekeeping's job. They're *required* to care for your room. Turn down is about indulging in a little luxury while on vacation, and considering that there are often extra special touches like in that picture I posted before, I would venture to say that mousekeeping generally enjoys doing it. Otherwise do you think they would bother arranging a stuffed animal so that he's reading the room service menu??

When I stay at a hotel I always leave my stuffed animals in a chair by the bed, and Disney is the *only* place where housekeeping arranges them on the bed after they've made the beds. It's extra touches like that that make Disney special and make me feel like Disney mousekeepers enjoy their jobs, even if they *aren't* glamorous.

Does anyone else have a problem with turndown service at the Poly? I swear they only come every other day. I really don't care about the chocolate and bed turned down, but I do like the fresh towels.

Also, do you guys leave another tip for the turn down maid? I sometimes forget - maybe that's why they don't come every day?

I can afford pleanty but I will not teach my children to have others who make 6 dollars or what ever the wage is out there which I am sure it's not 30 dollars and hour to pick up after me or her..to me it's degrading to expect other hard working people to pick up after me like I am Jennifer Lopez no matter where I am I pick up after myself..I feel it's funny people actually expect others to pick up after them in which it is discribed here

I go on vacation to take my daughter to places she has not been befor not to have others pick up after me..I have my own oppion just like everyone else.I feel I would never want people to treat me like I am nothing more then a maid.

You do understand that is what mousekeeping's job is - to clean up the room as if they were (gasp!) maids?

Turn down service is available in the deluxes. It is automatic if you stay on the concierge level. I requested it last year when we stayed in a standard room at YC. They turned down the beds, left chocolates, rearranged the kids' stuffed animals, and replaced the used towels. There is no additional charge, but I always leave a tip of about $3 ($5 for the morning housekeeper).

We have had turn down service at the moderates AND the values, also! Including this last trip to POP! It didn't occur every night but usually twice during the week. Didn't request it either, but was a very nice touch!

Our trip next year we will be staying deluxe for the first time (weee!) and we've saved and saved to be able to do so, you bet I'm requesting turn down service!

Wow! How nice, I thought that only the deluxe resorts did that. That is good to know for future trips, thanks!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE turndown service.:goodvibes :goodvibes I love having new towels and toiletries. The bed turndown is just frosting, but I would have to request towels if they didn't do it automatically. It just makes coming back to the room in teh evening so much nicer to know it's all taken care of.

I am a MOM:goodvibes ...I spend my LIFE picking up after others and being treated like I am nothing more than a maid.:rotfl: :rotfl: And I don't get paid or get tips!!!!! :rotfl: I enjoy my deluxe vacations and being pampered a bit. I tip well and appreciate the lovely ladies that help me enjoy my vacation.:thumbsup2

Happy day,

Lives4Disney :)

While I understand your point, it is not an issue for housekeeping to do this. It is their job..it is what they are paid to do. In all truth, housekeeping at WDW is not considered, by Disney, to be a tipped position. But, most of us still tip our 'mousekeepers'. For those that use their towels midday, after the regular housekeeping has been done, it's nice to have some fresh towels. Do you not avail yourself of normal, every day housekeeping when at a hotel or a resort? You say that you 'would never want people to treat you like you are nothing more than a maid'...but that'e exactly what your housekeeper is. And believe me...they don't mind getting a nice $3-5 tip for just turning back the blankets and putting out fresh towels. Being a 'maid' is an honorable job...if it is well done, with pride, there is no shame in being a 'maid' or a 'housekeeper'.

Well said!!!

Once I got turn-down service without even requesting it when I stayed at AKL. We tipped through the trip and one day left really late (had the DND sign on). When we returned our beds were turned down and everything was cleaned up. What a nice surprise! I hadn't even thought of outright requesting this service but I sure will for our trip to the Poly in December! It'll be double the tip envelopes but that's fine with us! :thumbsup2

And I have to agree--what's wrong with being a maid? :confused3 Strangely enough I know people who put themselves through college working as maids/housekeepers at hotels. And any job, when done with an exceptional work ethic, is something to be proud of IMO. :thumbsup2

Wow, i think its a really good idea!. Can you request it when you check in then?:goodvibes

Do they not automatically give you clean towels then, if they've been used?

I know we are going to leave a tip envelope out each morning, but when we request turn-down, do we just leave one out in the afternoon, too? Should the envie be labeled "turn-down service" ???

thanks!

(I'm a little neurotic.)

I'm surprised that turn down service is such a touchy subject :confused3 I don't undertand either why it would be sending a poor message to my children either, what about all the people that pay for a cleaning service for their home? They're not expected to pick up after their customers but they are expected to clean. Personally, I am SOOOOO looking forward to turn down service when we stay at the Grand Floridian November. Goodness, I'm paying an arm and and a leg to stay there with my wonderful family so I think they can begrudge me a few chocolates on the pillow and fresh towels :goodvibes I agree with many others here too, what's wrong with being a maid?? I've had some cruddy jobs in the past to put myself through college and wouldn't consider being a maid as one of them! Sign me up for the turn down service! Now if only November would hurry up and get here :yay:

Yeh i agree i think it's a wonderful service, and adds a little bit more 'Disney magic'. I'm looking at at having it, do u request it at check in?

In a TRUE Deluxe hotel, turn down is an expected service.

Only at a Disney "psuedo" deluxe do you have to call and request it.

Disney Deluxe = Deluxe pricing for moderate service and rooms LOL!
