Turn Down Service

Do you leave a tip for the person who does the bed turn down in the evening, and what about Concerige do you tip them for services ,if yes how much.

Is it housekeeping who does the turn down when they clean your room? Or does someone come back later and do it? If it is housekeeping, I would add an extra dollar or two to the daily tip, depending on if they were leaving my kids goodies.

If I go to the concierge desk and get some questions answered, I don't tip. If they come to my room for something, which they usually don't, or obtain some hard to get tickets or some ressies at an awesome restaurant, I would tip.

We tip the bellhop $1 per bag, or $2 if they are big and heavy. . .less if they took FOREVER to get the luggage to us, or to come to the room to pick it up. We tip the valet $1 when they take the car and $2 or more when we pick it up, depending on how quickly they retrieve it. This works better when in someplace like Vegas where you move your car in and out alot. We tip the room service delivery person $4-5 if they get the meal to us HOT, but room service is way overpriced for what you get, so we don't do that very much. We begin at 20% for waitstaff, and it goes up or down depending on service, and we tip a few dollars at a buffet if our drinks were kept filled and plates cleared quickly. We never use the clothes cleaning service, so I have no idea what to tip there. We tip doormen $1 and we tip the maitre'd $5 - $10 depending on where and how quickly we get seated.

The turndown housekeeper is a different person (sometimes team) than the daily housekeeper. At the on-site hotels I leave $3 for turndown with a note that it is for them on the bed.
Concierge is a different animal. I've never tipped them but rarely use their services. I have received misinformation from them as well. Some people feel it necessary to answer a question even if the true answer is, "I don't know." If they could get ressies at Emeril's on a sold out night I think it would be worth as much as $10.

I never realized that the turn down person would be different than the regular housekeeper. Our rooms at HRH have always been cleaned very late in the day, so I assumed that it was the same person. I leave $3 daily for the housekeeper, but never gave much thought to the turn-down person.
We tip the club concierge because I always feel like they go out of their way to help. Last time, Eugen brought in DVDs from his own collection for my kids to watch at night.

A housekeeper comes round late in the evening to do the turndown, was usually around 8 to 9 oclock in the evening, as far as i am aware you need to pay for the turndown service, unless you are staying in a suite.

Never knew there was a cost involved for turn down service. It must be included in the cost of the club level. I can't imagine paying $15 for it - it's a nice perk, but I would rather have a drink or two with that money!

No chocolates. Just trinkets. At HRH, they can include rubber balls, yoyos, tempy tattoos, key chains, bracelets, magnets, luggage tags. At RPR, we've received key chains, magnets, and boatloads of leis.

In addition, sometimes we've found turn down to be too early. They want to come in at 5 or so in the afternoon when we're taking a breather in the room. So, we call Star Services on the first night and tell them when we want our turn down (7:30 every night). They usually get it right.

Heh, I was kind of puzzled when I came back to my room the first time after turndown service. (club) I know about turndown but couldn't figure out why the radio was on. We always joked that the person must like rocking out while they work but was surprised they didn't remember to turn it off when they left.

I know Jodie and I get excited over the trinket they leave. I got a nice shell attached to a key chain once at RPR but my all time favorite was a mint tin with Loews Miami Beach Hotel South Beach in raised letters with their logo along with an orchid and beach scene card with a poem. I still carry the mint container.

My favorite was a braided bracelet with a smilie face in the middle. We got two, and I gave one to my niece figuring that she'd go batty that we'd have matching bracelets (she's 6). She could not have cared less.

This was the first time that we got HRH luggage tags. They're a bright yellow, and they came at the perfect time, since we had trouble figuring out which red bag was ours on our way there.

P.S. Can't believe I forgot to mention this: that was actually part of our post stay survey this time. How important is it to receive turn down service with a trinket? Of course you can guess that I checked the 'very important' box!

I usually leave 5 per room for morning/afternoon housekeeping and 1 per person per night for turndown. I love coming home to a room with the lights turned low, bathrobes on the bed, and music playing. Also, we leave one big tip on departure day in addition to the daily tipping.

Jessica came home! She was loaded with trinkets, thanks Jodie. My wife says "Who's Jessica and who's Jodie?" Roxy was no help but immediately snatched the yo-yo.! They never Dis. I've got chocolates at PBH! Just another reason to try it again.
