Does anyone have any opinions about roasters-
specifically stainless steel vs. aluminum non-stick?

And how big? (let's say you need to feed around 12 people?

Thanks.;)

I have a stainless steel roasting pan, but honestly I prefer using the disposable aluminum roasting pans. I put it on a cookie sheet and use a Reynolds oven bag. My turkey always turns out moist and tender.

Is it just bc the mess isn't worth it? I'm just kind of worriedabout the potential burnt-on mess on what initially appears to be a gleaming beautiful stainless roaster.:o

I have a huge non-stick roaster with a v-rack insert. I love mine. I put a cup of chicken broth/stock in the roaster and the steam will keep the turkey moist. That and cooking at a lower temperature for longer time. I also put herb butter between the skin and meat and when the butter melts, it also keeps the turkey moist and makes it so much tastier.

I like the disposable one because it eliminates a lot of the mess. With the bag I still cook at a low temperature. I usually have 12-16 people at my house. Everyone brings something, but I'm left doing the turkey, dressing, gravy and several desserts. With the disposable pan I just poor off the juices I need and get rid of the rest. No worring about cleaning up a huge roaster or having it take up space in my sink just as my guests are arriving.

Spray your roaster thoroughly with PAM or similar product and that will help with cleanup. Use the butter flavor.

I promise not to tell my brother the chef about the Disers using bags to cook their turkeys!

;)

Disposable is nice, but I prefer the solid dependability of the roasting pan. MIL had a turkey end up on the floor with one of the disposable pans. But that's a story for another thread.......

I have an electric roaster. I love it. Keeps my oven free for the rest of the meal preparation. All I do is line the insert pan with aluminum foil to avoid mess. Hoping my transformer can carry it without popping the electricity in the house. UGGHHH......European electricity difference!

I use a black agate roasting pan ( think thats what its called) with a teflon coated v-shaped rack. The pan is huge and we usually have a 23 pound turkey.Turkey always comes out great.But...lol...my ex took the pan and my mom is hosting Thanksgiving this year so I guess I dont have to worry about it.

I have a nesco non stick roaster that I LOVE. Have had one for years and it is the only thing I use to cook a turkey. I put some water in the bottom, turkey on the rack and baste every once in a while. Always comes out moist and tasty.
Cleanup is a breeze.
Good luck. I would buy another nesco (this is my second one).
