Turkey Legs and Airport Security

Hi - I was wondering if anyone has every taken a turkey leg through airport security. From what I read on TSA's website, it seems like you should be able to do this, but one never knows with TSA.

For background, our departure flight is usually after lunch, so we have in the past picked up QS meals to eat at the airport (because we have QS credits to use up) after getting through security. I've not had problems taking sandwiches or salads through security, but I didn't know if the turkey leg bone would set off security.

Meat is fine, even if it has bones.

Hungry Smurf might claim it's a weapon . . . but it doesn't violate any TSA rules

So sorry, but had to comment...

I seriously LOL'd at the title of this thread! Don't do that when I'm drinking Pepsi, please.

I used to travel between Cleveland and Chicago all the time and my boss would "strongly suggest" that I bring him original Pizzeria Uno pizzas home almost every time. I'm sure the whole plane cursed me the entire hour flight.

Haven't commented before now..but since I'm in such a good mood, I'm going to. Smurfs??? Seriously??? Cool. I have no problem with Smurfs. Gets your point across without seriously offending anyone.

And turkey legs through security?? Shouldn't be an issue..unless the 'smurfs' get wind of it and confiscate it for their lunch!! Kidding everyone...kidding.

Based on the title of the thread, I thought this was going to be another thread about the airport scanners.

Kidding. :goodvibes

Just wrap it up and put it in your carry on. If the X-ray operator wants to take a look-see, you can open up the carry-on after you and it get past the X-ray machine and the nudoscope.

(copied from another post) During the Beanie Baby craze, a passenger was detained momentarily when his baggage was X-rayed and appeared to contain "lots of small animal carcasses".

Why the term 'deleted phrase''??? It's inflamatory and not actually technically correct. Please change it...or I will.

Come on . . . seriously. Inflammatory? They are just inanimate machines. Are the TSA's body scanning machines that see through one's clothing going to get insulted and cease posting here?

We brought several home from our last trip to use up counter service credits. We froze them so they would keep. When they went through the scanners the security guy looking at the screen said "someone sure loves turkey legs." It was so funny! The kids really enjoyed them at home as a nice little bit of pixie dust.

I had never thought about getting them in advance and freezing them to bring home. We're staying in a 1BR villa, so there is a freezer in the room. Thanks for the idea!

I would just pack a few gallon ziploc bags to keep the juices from possibly leaking on anything else in your bag when transiting. I have never brought turkey legs, but I bring all kinds of food back to DC when visitng my parents in New Orleans.

Freezing turns it into a WMD (weapon of mess destruction) ;)

I never understood what it was about a Turkey leg. It must be the most cooloing refreshing food on the planet. Why else would Disney and Universal sell so many on a Hot summer Florida Day?

How many people sit in their homes on a hot and humid July day and think boy I'd love a turkey leg about now?
