I have not eaten Turkey legs in years because of the tough tendons making them difficult to eat without making it a major operation.

Does Disney remove these? I'm hearing so many good reviews about these legs, I'm dying to try one. Is it worth the effort to get one?

hmmm. I can't figure how to post a you tube video. darn it.

Sign me up as part of the group that just doesn't understand the appeal of turkey legs. Sure they look good, but one bite of the tough, sinewy, overly salty, fake smoked meat, and I'm done...

I know a lot of people like them but I can't even look at them

:scared:

WDW TURKEY LEGS "411":

1) Disney sells about 1.5 MILLION turkey legs every year!
2) That is about 7 turkey legs for every man-woman-child in Orlando.
3) Each of these bird legs weighs about 1.5 pounds for about $11.
4) They supposedly come from 40-50 pound turkeys!
5) Nutrition, per Lisa Haines, VP Communications, WDW
. . . about a half day's worth of a grown-man's calorie goal (1,092 cal each leg)
. . . about a day's worth of a grown-man's fat goal (54 gr each leg)
. . . about two day's worth of a grown-man's sodium goal (5,283 gr each leg)
6) Recipe
. . . take uber-monstrous one leg
. . . inject copious amounts of salt brine
. . . smoke slowly at 225º for 4 hrs.
7) Available at the below (all Turkey Legs taste the same, and from he same vendor)
. . . MK - near Liberty Square
. . . EP - near America
. . . AK - near Flame Tree BBQ
. . . HS - near Tower of Terror

NOTE: We really do like the taste of the turkey legs. However, we seldom finish one,
so we save the calories for later. We still get the legs when we have a hankerin'. In
addition, they do seem to be pretty "stringy".

My teens got one last year and they really liked it. It was a snack and 1 leg was enough for the 3 of them. I'm glad because the price shocked me. :faint:

We used to eat Turkey legs in our early trips to WDW when we were trying to save money as one single Turkey leg could feed our family of 4 for 3 days.:rotfl2:

I see so many people enjoying them in the Parks - I feel like I should, as a card holding Disney fanatic, like them too. But I have tried them twice and they are just...nasty. :scared: I love the dark meat on a normal size turkey...but these are just not normal - the are so salty and big and stringy...and blech.

I'm 5' 1". middle age, NOT obese and I can easily polish off one by myself. The key to the tendons is to not eat standing up, but rather sit down w/ plastic knife and fork. You can lift meat up from bone, then sever the tendon at the base. Messy--yes. But Oh So Worth It!!!

Back in the 90s when they were like 5 bucks they made a lot more sense. I liked them as a teenager because I wanted to ride all day and you could just eat it in line. The pork shank at Gaston's is better and cheaper though. That'd be my choice nowadays. Plus there's just something inherently masculine about eating meat off the bone. Hearkens back to the stone age or something.

Yes! This! Even my DH who thinks they are ghastly will usually ask for a bite once I've gotten control of the thing.
