OK, I figure I am a Fort Snob... I haven't ever considered camping anywhere else "in Orlando" but at our wonderful Fort Wilderness. BUT, my husband mentioned trying a place that he and my son play disc golf, Turkey Lake. Actually its called Bill Fredrick Park at Turkey Lake. We are planning a trip in April and the prices at the Fort are pretty high. We also have reservations for October and I want to add one more trip possiblly in December. So, cutting cost in April would help.
Has anyone ever been to Turkey Lake??
I have two main worries - I read reviews that were iffy about the cleanliness of the showers and I am traveling with my dog. (my baby:love:) I don't know how pet friendly they are.:confused3

We stayed there. I think it's a great place! I love the price.:thumbsup2 The showers are not Fort Wilderness but I thought they were clean there just old. I go camping with my dog and found it pet friendly. I think it's a nice alternative to Fort Wilderness.

Thank you all for your replies!! Donnie, the pictures are great and very helpful. I have read such mixed reviews. Its a lot easier with the advice coming from you guys!
Thanks again!

Hey folks! Long time lurker here and first time poster to this particular board. Sorry for hijacking the OP but I too have some questions about Turkey Lake. We have been considering a trip to the fort but hadn't thought about other camping areas til coming across this post. How do you go about booking a site at Turkey Lake? I googled it and perused what looks to be the City of Orlando webiste for the park but didn't see any place to make online reservations. Am I overlooking something or would I just have to call the number listed for the park and do it over the phone? Anyone know if this place is usually full? With those low prices that close to WDW I can't imagine there's ever any vacancy. :confused3

You can make a ressie by calling 407-299-5581. I doubt they have a res. feature on their site. I know in the winter it's tough because all the snowbirds have found out about it. good luck.
