Turkey Day!

I am Canadian and this weekend is our celebration of Thanksgiving. We have the fall leaves, family get togethers and a long weekend.
But being a not so historically educated individual, wonder why we have different Thanksgivings? We celebrate the same xmases and Easter, halloween and New Years?
Why don't we eat turkey at the sme time too????

I always wondered the same... if the pilgrams lived in new england and thanksgiving was in november

why do all the drawings and records have them eating outside with the indians

wouldn't it be to cold or snowy to eat, wouldn't the turkey be refrozen by the time it got carved

My guess would be that while many other holidays are almost universal, Thanksgiving would be "national" holidays and problaby have slightly different origins in each country.

The American Thanksgiving is for remembering the pilgrams and settling in a new world. The Canadian Thanksgiving is for giving thanks for a successful harvest which comes earlier in the year in Canada since they are further north.

Dh and the kids are Canadian so we do the whole shi-bang too!

I love it though, we have 2 Thanksgivings, one can never be too Thankful you know
