Turkey Day Gang 2009

Hi Lisa,

I'm glad to hear Mason is OK. I can only imagine how scary that was for you all.

Karen

If my Fish Extender Bags are all ready to go - does that mean we get to go TOMORROW??

I didnt know how many bags to make - so I estimated :) They look soooo great - so now we are all set to sail :)

do we put our room # on the gifts so you know who gave you the FE gift?

Thanks for all of the kind words of support!! :thumbsup2 The ER doctor performed a battery of tests--EKG, blood sugar, blood pressure and even xrays---everything came back normal. She is not sure what triggered him to faint. Luckily for Mason his teacher, the guidance counselor, the EMT staff and the hospital staff were all very kind and patient with him!!

Hello everyone.

We will be joining you!

Cruising are myself, Leslie (41), DH Trevor (42), DS Bennett (12) and DD Kennedy (11).

We booked in November aboard the Disney Magic Western. We had to because my husband was refusing to get off the ship unless we did!!

I've read back about 3 pages so feel free to bring me up to speed.

Hi Leslie!

Welcome to the Turkey Day Gang (the best darn bunch of turkeys you'll ever meet!).

In a nutshell, a lot of us have chosen to cruise for Thanksgiving because we either don't want to cook for our inlaw and outlaws or we don't like turkey or we just really like to cruise and Thanksgiving week is "cheap" in terms of vacation time (or, like me, all 3 are true!).

Many in our group are doing the fish extender thing....and we've decided as a group to design and order tshirts again (like we did in 2007). Now, in some families you have "those" who will wear the shirt and "the others" who won't. If that's something you want to join in on, there will be a call for tshirt orders early in the fall. (Personally, in my family the only reluctant one is my DH...Steve...but after nearly 20 years of marriage he's given up and knows that joining in is the "right" thing to do :rotfl2: !)

Anyway, we are a friendly bunch and I'm glad your family is joining in on the fun. My family is me (Karen)...still holding on to 41 for a few more weeks; DH (Steve) he's 43...and DS (Andrew) he's still 10...but will be 11 very soon.

Hello all

Welcome Leslie / Trevor / Bennett and Kennedy! :)

This is my first TURKEY GROUP trip but my third DC - :)

MY DD will be 17 at the time of the cruise and I do not expect to see her much except for dinners and days on shore - those are the two requirements only! other than that she is free to go - :)

Welcome aboard Leslie and Family!! :thumbsup2

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to be on the Magic. It has become our family tradition. In fact our DS (age 9--will be 10 by the time of the cruise) had to write a report over Thanksgiving break about his family traditions and his report was all about the Disney Magic. One of the pages needed to be about favorite recipes and he included the Thanksgiving menu from the Magic!!

:dance3:

Welcome Leslie and family! What a wonderful DH you have to insist on booking another cruise. I only hope that I'm that lucky come this November.

This is our first ever cruise and we're really excited about it. Even Grumpy - oops, I mean DH talks about it occasionally. Our cruise is to celebrate our DS13's Bar Mitzvah - he wants a trip instead of a party. We're also putting off celebrating our 20th anniversary till the cruise. Our anniversary is next Wednesday.

So, we'll have me (who passed 41 many years ago), DH even older, DS13, and DS(soon to be 9 in 2 weeks).

Hi Leslie, we are new Turkeys as well. Atleast we are eggs at this point, and hope to be earning our turkey status on the cruise :rotfl2: . It is DH(42), me(40), DD(9), and FIL(?). The people here are very friendly and helpful. They also sound like alot of fun.

This is our first Disney cruise and we can't wait. We will be married 10 years on this cruise. We got married in St. Thomas so this is going to be super special for us. I can't wait to show our daughter where we got married. Blackbeards, Here we come.

Alwayslisad - And I thought I was the only one working on the FE gifts already. But you are done, :worship: :worship: :worship: . :rotfl: Way to go!:thumbsup2

:scared1::scared1::scared1:

:headache::headache:
I have a very bad confession to make to all my fellowTurkeys.
:headache::headache:

I almost called DU and canceled our cruise today. I was one step away from doing this :scared: Due to the fact that our very close friends told us they would cruise with us if we switched to Princess and the cost would be $2000.00 less.... :sad2::sad2::sad2: I called and got prices :guilty: started looking at cabins :guilty: And then DH  came over and kissed me on my head and said "Disney is what you want - the sound of the horn makes you cry - it is your ring tone - you walk around saying "Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen Boys and Girls in your cute british accent - do you really think I would let you cancel at this point?" he went on to say - "your Fish Extender presents are ready - we have over 700 on OBCs and Disney Dollars and we are spending the week before in Orlando" So :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: He brought me back to my senses and I have put that thought out of my head. As he said to me just a moment ago "we just spent over $500 on a birthday weekend for our princess - do you think I care that Disney is more than princess if it makes you and Renee happy?" SIGH :cloud9::love:

For Renee's 17th birthday (it is wednesday the 25th) we got her hair done ( well redone - it was PURPLE - now it is back to normal and beautiful ) $100.00 - tanning package for the prom ($35.00) Party last night $100.00 - roller skating for 5 teens $40.00 Dinner out $100.00 and a diamond ring :) :) :) $75.00 thank goodness she is my only!!

k onto relax now - been a busy and stressful weekend!! hugs to all of you -

alwayslisad - I am so gald you are still cruising with us. Thank goodness your husband was there to bring you back. Remind me to buy him a drink!

Sounds like you had a great weekend with your daughter! Have an even greater week!

Elsie

Yep Lisa...I understand completely! DH and I were struggling with it too...and we've decided to just stay. Yes, it's A LOT less to go on another cruise line that week....but...DS loves Disney so much (and so do I) that we're just gonna go with it.

Glad to hear you are staying put too.

Karen

Whew! I need to check in here a little more often -- I had a few pages to read to catch up on things. :surfweb:

Paula -- THANKS for listing the potential movies!

Lisa -- Sounds like some scary moments for everyone, but good to know Mason is OK.

alwayslisad -- I love a man who appreciates Disney! :lovestruc I'll have to ask my DH to talk Disney to me....

I am signed up for FEs but am a little intimidated by what I'm seeing! WOW -- some very talented DISers out there!

Still working on travel plans. Holding out for Southwest to open Nov dates (prob in May) as they are the only direct flights to MCO from Norfolk. If I found a great deal elsewhere I'd grab it, but that hasn't happened....yet.

We had a fun weekend -- DD10's slumber party was Sat. Hosted 7 10yo girls so you can imagine the intense volume and lack of sleep. But lots of fun was had by all! :thumbsup2

DH accomplished a personal best this weekend at the Shamrock Half in Va Beach -- just under 2 hours. SOOOO proud of him as he worked hard to break the 2hr mark and shave a good 10 mins off his time. :cheer2:

Have a great week, everyone!

CC

I, too, have been away from the boards and had to catch up!!! I was sick from work and didn't feel like being on the computer.

Welcome Leslie!!! This Turkey Gang group is awesome. My first Turkey cruise was in 2005. This will be my second.

Lisa, I understand how tempting it is to spend $2000 less, with what the economy is like, but let me say this...you wouldn't get the service you are use to with Disney!!! While they may be nice and great service, there just isn't the Disney 'magic'.

Charlie

Lisa -

I can understand what made you start second guessing yourself, but, I'm very glad you decided to stay with us! We started to do the same thing and were looking at switching dates to October. But, DD told us she is pregnant and expecting #2 Oct 20th. I didn't want to switch but $1200 was a lot of money, especially, since I'm dreading what airfare will be the week of T-giving.

Hey all -

Karen - I finally made it through all the naviagtors. They were great! I just have to ask though, why would they offer exercise classes right AFTER the wine/beer/ or margarita tastings? I'm at a total loss there. I just don't think that will work for me.

Welcome Leslie - We're new turkeys too.

Lisa - I hope Mason had a better week after the scare.

Lisad - I'm so glad you didn't go to the dark side... (:rotfl: We don't know anything BUT Disney cruises. This will be our 3rd and longest so far).

Sherris - Yes! we'll have ds's the same age! My ds,(who will be 9 on the cruise), is a bit on the techno side - I keep telling him there is nothing wrong with being called a geek. I was one after all... But my dnephew is more of the jock and he'll be 8, so hopefully they'll all have fun together. We could probably meet up before the cruise since we're both in Maryland. How far is the rainforest cafe Towson from you? Mapquest says its 44 minutes from our house.

Is anyone here proficient on photo shop? For the last couple weeks I've been wanting to come up with some sort of a logo for us, (I just keep getting distracted), but I'd be starting from scratch. I don't know anything about the software, but I should have some spare time to try it out the next several weeks.

I really wish this ticker would move just a little faster.....

Hello everyone!

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Even though I am new I am going to boldy give you Turkeys a suggestion. Feel free to veto, It's almost impossible to hurt my feelings.

For our Magic Cruisel last year, we discussed the T-shirt idea. Some of the thoughts were the same as the ones you guys have - some people don't want to wear them, they are bulky to pack if you are not going to wear them much, they are expensive if you are not going to wear them much...etc.

Some clever member of our dis group (not me), suggested those little rubber bracelts. We ordered them on ebay. Lime green. Our cruise date and names embossed on them in the Walt D. font. They were easy to pack, cheap (about $2 each), you could wear them in the pool, to dinner,,,blah blah blah.

Now I'm suspecting that you regular Turkeys have a T-shirt tradition and won't want to switch to bracelets, however, for those in your group who are reluctant to don the blue shirt, perhaps a bracelet is an option.

Regarding Mason's fainting spell...I'm betting he had a little vaso vagel attack - I used to get them occasionally. Just a little round of low blood pressure that can be brought on by an infection or stress or well, just about anything. Salt his food and get his blood pressure up!! I'm glad he's OK!!!

I will be back to bug you Turkeys with a ton of questions soon!!!!!

OH BTW My husband is not THAT wonderful. He is not the Disneyphile I am, he just REALLY enjoyed the cruise. I think he appreciated it more cause we were at DW for ten days before and he was all amusement parked out!!!

Welcome and thanks for the suggestion about the bracelets. I think my family would like to stay with the tee shirts. One of the pluses on the shirts was a few times at the bar I received free drinks and that in itself pays for the shirt alone:cool1: In the past the shirts were very affordable.

Rob

I doubt that my group will be interested in t-shirts this time. I'd prefer the bracelets. I saw that another group had done this and I thought it was a good idea.
