Has anyone else bought their turkey yet?
Meijer here had 50% off.
I also had a $15 off any turkey coupon.

Meijer Brand turkeys came to .52 a pound
Honeysuckle .99
Butterball 1.02 lb

We picked up a nice nearly 14 pound butterball turkey for free! Could have gotten a large store brand, but we don't eat that much turkey.

Seeing what other areas of the country have.

I sadly can't spend that much living alone, but that is a nice deal!

Trying a fresh turkey this year. No bargain, $5.99 a pound at Whole Foods. Also a challenge because DW wants a turkey that weighs less than 10 pounds. So we pre-ordered.

I just buy a turkey breast. Usually costs about the same, but absolutely no one in this family eats dark meat. And it cooks a bit faster (since it's smaller than a whole turkey).

I bought a 21lb turkey butterball brand at Target for $.99/lb the other day and I already bought a huge ham as well.
I'll start working on pantry items this weekend.

I usually get a free turkey breast. A whole turkey is too much for us, and we're not fans of dark meat.

Got my free frozen turkey breast today at Acme with a $100 purchase in a single transaction. Today was the last day for that deal.

If I spend $400 at Shop Rite before the day before Thanksgiving, I can get another turkey breast, or whole turkey, or ham, or tofurky, or frozen whole kosher chicken, or family size frozen Stouffer's lasagna, or two or three other choices. Or a certain amount per pound off of a Butterball turkey, or kosher one, or premium ham, turducken, or a few other options. It's not likely I'll get to $400 however, especially after spending $120 at Acme today. I'm only up to $150 at Shop Rite.

We have neither of those stores here. We bought a turkey breast a few times. None of us really like dark meat either. The past few years, when comparing the cheap sale price of turkeys, it was cheaper to buy the whole dang bird.

This year, the coupon was only good for a whole turkey. So even if we don't touch the dark meat, free is free!

The ShopRites here tried to increase the amount you have to spend to get a free item to $400 one time, but I don't think it went over well, and now it's down to a $250 purchase. We prefer to get a turkey breast. I used to get the free lasagna, but now I make my own.

Target has Butterball for .99lb and their own brand for .79lb. I got mine at BJ's Butterball for .89 lb.

Around here Shop Rites raised the threshold from $300 to $400 in 2012. But Hurricane Sandy happened and they lowered it to $300 again just for that year. In 2013 it went back up to $400. It was easy for me to reach $300, but $400 is a stretch. Even more so the past two years because in both cases I was on vacation out of town the first two weeks of the promo period.

In order to get my free turkey breast at Acme for a $100 purchase I bought about a month's worth of meats: chicken breasts, pork chops, a few steaks, bag of frozen shrimp, etc.

DH came home w/ 3 turkeys the other day from Publix - 1 is 21 lbs & the other one is 24 lbs; both are Butterball. The third one is smaller & is the Publix Greenwise brand, I believe.

The Greenwise turkey cost just as much as the 24 lb Butterball. And he actually didn't even mean to buy the Greenwise turkey; he thought he had picked up the regular Publix turkey.

We plan to roast a turkey & smoke a turkey (for the first time), so he bought a smaller turkey as a "practice turkey" for the smoker.

I think it is so stupid as most people do not spend that much money. I will reach the $400.00 mark this weekend I am giving it too my mom since she will never reach that limit. they need to lower the amount

Glad to provide you with a few giggles. :D Even the photo on the tofurky box looks disgusting, so I don't want to know what the actual product looks like.

We really have no deals here. I need to buy a few turkeys. For two of us I can freeze a lot of it and use it for sandwiches and other meals.

I haven't started looking for a turkey yet. Just started stocking up on pantry items last night. We're hosting Thanksgiving dinner for 20 adults and 2 kids (it's actually Friendsgiving, lol), so we need at least a 30lb turkey. Oy. I'm hoping Costco has ones that large, and for a good deal. Our last day to buy one and have it defrost in time is next Thursday.

That's so nice of you to do that for your mom! During a period of over a month, I think most families easily spend $400. Some items are at stock-up prices, and even with double coupons i was able to reach the $250 needed here with a couple of trips. I have a big pantry and two freezers, though.

We get lucky DSO's work give them a Thanksgiving basket every year including turkey & all the fixins. :thumbsup2
