I used Turbo Tax Premier last year. I'm guessing I need to go in that direction again but am wondering whether Deluxe would be adequate. We have W-2 jobs, itemize deductions and have dividends and capital gains including a carryover loss. I also have a very small (less than $3,000 gross ) home-based business, including a small home office, so I do file a Schedule C.

I found last year that there were lots and lots of questions on the Premier that don't pertain to us and wondered if Deluxe would have worked.

Until last year we had used a CPA for many years and I did 95% of his work for him -- he must have loved the packet I brought in!

We are in almost the same situation plus DW's medical practice related stuff and Deluxe has always been fine for us. We don't use the questions anymore though. I just copy last years return into this years software and go review each form and let it flag the errors for me.

If you feel comfortable filling out the Schedule C and the capital gains/losses on your own without guidance, buy the Deluxe. The only thing the Premier gives you is more guidance (e.g. extra questions in the walk-through) in filling out those extra forms. The Deluxe version still has the forms (and I'm pretty sure even has a questionaire section on stock sales) for everything, it's just the level of assistance the program provides. :)
