Can more than one person/computer share a TurboTax program? I want to use it this year because my return is going to be a bit more complicated, but my dad always buys one - can I just share his, or is it set up to only install on one computer?
It is set up for install on 1 computer only but each program can I believe do 5 seperate filings IE: My dad did his, mine, my Brother, Dad's GF, and my brother's gf's. This works great except only 1 person gets free federal filing included others pay or mail it in, you all need to live in same state or fork out almost entire cost for second state ( trust me I know).

For state e-filing, check with your state's IRS, some states offer free e-filing on their own websites, I know IL does. I get the free federal e-file from Turbo Tax and just file my state taxes on IL's IRS website, also for free. Between the free version on Turbo Tax's website and my state's free e-file site, I haven't paid to prepare or file my taxes in years! :)

I know in the past years, we have shared our TurboTax disk with other people and no one ever had issues, nor did they get charged for the "free" federal filing! I bought my disk the other week, installed it on my computer and my coworker installed it on his computer at home yesterday and had no issues.

Ok I stand corrected than on 1 computer.

They must have changed the downloading. In the past my girlfriend and I would split the cost of the program and install it on our own computers to file out families taxes. The a few years back it would only let you install once.

I will have to see which one of us purchases first and then try the second install.

Thanks for the update.

Did your friend "register" the program from his computer? If you did, and he did, without issue...then I guess it can be done on more than one computer.

But...if you registered your copy and then he did NOT, its possible that he will be unable to use the Update feature to the program.

While its great to get the program and get things started, these programs are notorious for updates pretty regularly. Its why TT almost always asks if it can update the program before you begin a session. Some tax forms are in the program without being "final", and the only way to get the final version is in updating.

My whole family shares our Turbotax every year. We all install it on our own computers (4 in total) and don't forget whoever buys it gets a tx deduction!

Found this on the Turbo Tax website:
The TurboTax End User License Agreement (EULA) for the Basic, Deluxe, Premier, and Home & Business versions allows you to install TurboTax on all computers owned by you (at home or work). You may use your purchased TurboTax product to prepare tax returns for you and your immediate family.

Following IRS guidelines, TurboTax allows you to prepare and electronically file up to five federal and related state tax returns. Additional returns must be filed on paper.

Important: If you prepare tax returns for person(s) other than your immediate family or if you charge for preparing tax returns, you are considered a professional tax preparer. Intuit offers software solutions for professional tax preparation, such as Lacerte (http://www.lacertesoftware.com) or Pro Series (http://www.proseries.com).

So anyone found any good online deals for this? I've read that if you have a StateFarm bank account or credit card you can get the Federal one for free....not sure if includes state or not? I've also read that you get 25% off if you have a Capital One Card, 35% off with a Bank of America account or mortgage and some off if you have a Chase Card. I wish State Farm would offer it free to any customer who has one of their products...and not just the bank accounts. It'll cost me a bit over 60.00 this year to file Federal and State!!! That's crazy.....I guess I'm just so used to getting a deal that I can't stomach paying that when I've not paid over 35 or so the past few years :(
