Tunes for trip - min ipod?

hi,

i would like to get a mini ipod,,,does anyone know of a cheaper price than $199? or is there something comparable that is cheaper???

I *think* the iPod shuffle is $99 but I'm not positive.

You wont find the Ipod Mini any cheaper than that. The Ipod shuffle is nice but doesnt have nearly as many features as the Mini (you cant program playlists or hold nearly as many songs).

If you don't mind factory refurbished, try compusaauctions.com. I got a 15GB white ipod (they have minis too although due to their popularity you might be surprised and be able to get a larger capacity one for less than the mini) from them for $141. It came in "like new" condition", has worked great and I was able to register it at apple and get the warranty. You have to be patient as you might not win one on the first try, but if you keep at it, you can probably snag a refurbished ipod for much less than retail (Hint: Don't try on weekends -- too many people bid on the weekend auctions and the prices get grossly inflated. During the week is best.)

I don't know if you can get them cheaper, but I have a mini and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It holds about 1,000 songs, has all kinds of cool features, and best of all...it is small and lightweight so rather than dragging a CD player, having to change CD's, and then lugging my whole CD collection...I can just grab my mini and use it. The sound quality is really awesome!! I definitely recommend it!

If you are a teacher you can order through the Apple Education Store and get a new 4GB Mini for $179. Depending on how you use it, a $99 Shuffle can be great. I love my Shuffle for walking or working out because it is light as a feather and flash-drive based, so it's rugged. Mini is wonderful for more relaxed listening or more options in what you listen to. Either is worth every penny, IMHO. Go for it.

I LOVE my mini. The sound quality is awesome. Holds 1000 songs and I love being able to create my own playlists.

For the price and ease to use I love my I-pod Shuffle!
We also have a 15gig Ipod but it seems so bulky and not as easy .

I like to just hit play and listen to what I have created on the shuffle rather than searching thru for what I want.. nice for walking. I can fit about 130 songs on mine and recharge once every 2 weeks - I use it for half hour a day at work and then another 30 minutes 3 x week for walks.
In the car we like using the 15 gig with a tape deck adapter for the longer trips.

On our May trip (by plane to DL) DH and I will have our shuffles while the boys will share the 15 gig with an ear phone jack splitter.

We found it was really hard to locate a shuffle to purchase- Target would only stock four at a time and would sell out as soon as they arrived. Best buy never had enough on stock and could not guarentee if they would have stock online either. Bought the last two in stock one weekend at the Apple store at Mall of America, they had just put them in stock that morning!

Weird. Looks like compusa has been tinkering with their site since I was last there. Now you have to type in the full URL: http://www.compusaauctions.com to get the site to work. Just typing compusaauctions.com won't work.

Alterantely, go to compusa.com, on the lefthand side is a menu. At the very bottom is a section called "Services" and the link to the acution site is under that heading.

I have my iPod Shuffle on right now! I can load about 70 songs onto mine (I think my files must be large) and usually tinker with it to update the play list once a week. It cost $99 and fits in my tiny Coach bag, which is the PERFECT size. DH got ot fo rme at Best Buy. There was a 4-week wait at apple.com last month for my birthday.

any advice as to where to buy accessories? what are the must haves?
